SEASONAL EATING (Posted 2011-03-04 09:37:18 by ArchPaladin) Generally, I enjoy eating seasonally. But living in New England this is particularly difficult in the winter, and is compounded by the fact that my agricultural knowledge about timely crop planting is limited. I know berries are in season in the late spring and early summer, that you can get pumpkins and squashes in the fall, and broccoli seems to grow all the time. Beyond that things start to get a little hazy. Yesterday I stumbled across eat the seasons [ http://www.eattheseasons.com/ ] [eattheseasons.com], which is a site some helpful person put up to try and remedy that. They'll tell you what is in season currently, and they have a list of common foodstuffs that you can find specific growing information for. I found understanding the site a little difficult at first (they have a color scheme for growing seasons that wasn't explained in a quickly noticeable place), but overall it seems like a good resource and easily useful. Their information is about foods that are in season in North America generally, so if you combine this with a local farmers market I think you'll have nailed down how best to eat seasonally and healthy. Wow - that really came across to me as an ad. Perhaps I should write advertising. -------- There are no comments on this post.
