And sick again... it all started a bit over a week ago with a just
slightly rough throat, but nothing that bothered me that much. In
the night the sudden urge to run to the toilet and practice a bit
in competitive diarrhea woke me up and i kept practicing until i
collapsed back into the bed in the really early morning hours.
During the day i was okay-ish, but in the afternoon a sudden high
fever and general feeling of "oh please let me die!" forced me
first on the couch, later into the bed. The following night was...
not nice, but got better after remembering that we had a stash of
800mg Ibuprofen still sitting in the medicine cabinet. The next
day the fever was gone but my throat felt like if somebody first
used an iron brush on it following by sweeping it out with Draino.
Over the following days things got better, i attended work as normal
(having a single office in a remote corner of the building has its
benefits) but every evening i just wanted to hit the couch. This
Monday, whatever unworldly abomination this bug is, returned...
this time with head splitting headaches which finally let me throw
the towel and forced me to stay home. The headaches stayed from
Monday to late Wendsday and finally left today (Thursday)... oh
boy, that was not a nice experience at all!

Being sick in our household has a caveat: The moment you look
somewhat sickly you become the primary target of junior who has
developed some medicinal interest lately. Within seconds of spotting
you lying on the couch or in bed and looking sickly he will do his
best to make you well again... normally this means being forced to
drink lots and lots of water he carries to you (often resulting in
getting an unscheduled shower - the thing that happens if the
enthusiasm and motor skills of a 3 year old collides), you will be
buried under a ton of blankets, pillows and everything warm he can
think of and he will absolutely insist that you stay in bed.

At work i got a new computer - my boss has some worries about me
flying to Vietnam next month and wanted to make sure i am properly
equipped should the need for a quick remote session or problem to
solve arise. He generally accepts my insistence on using rather
old hardware and - on an economic standpoint - he even likes it
(keeps cost down), but i think the thought of letting myself fly
to the other side of the world only with a > 20 year old laptop
was too much for him. He said he deliberately didn't ask me to buy
a new system because he knew it would only end up being some "weird
clunky impractical thing".

Well, its an Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge with an Snapdragon X CPU...
one of those "AI-PCs" Microsoft is promoting for some time now.
While it would not have been my first choice for some reasons,
regarding the hardware and the performance its really nice - getting
two straight working days out of a single battery charge is something
special for sure! Sadly, the system as for now has refused to let
me install any sort of Linux... as the support for the Snapdragon
X architecture is spotty at best at the moment. But at least there
is WSL, so i can use my normal tools and stuff with this system.
After contemplating a couple of days about it i also disabled the
"Recall" feature of the system... i am not really a tinfoil hat,
but the thought of letting the computer record everything i do
(even having it stored and processed locally) makes my skin crawl.
I also look into how to get rid of the whole Copilot stuff, i think
if i can purge the system from the whole AI stuff it will become
a rather nice mobile workstation.
