Strawberry Akhenaten's Temporary Web Server back up! last updated: 16may12 Yesterday, I discovered that my http site went down. I was able to get it back up tonight. Let me explain the situation... I post this phlog on gopherspace, but for now I'm posting my drawings on my http site. This is possible because I'm using a program called "HFS" which stands for HTTP File Server. HFS can be found at www.rejetto.com/hfs/ Personally, I recommend it for those of you who want to host your own web content. It's easy to use and being free, the price is right. HFS is also good for me because I have wireless internet now and I can leave a computer on the net for days at a time. However, the weakness of my setup is the fact that I have a temporary and portable setup doing the job of a full-fledged web server. This is why I refer to my site as a "Temporary" web server. The setup can fail or go down at any time. That's exactly what happened. I had to set up the server all over again. The strength of my setup is the fact that I'm doing more with less. I should also mention that the wireless card on the desktop that I'm using as a server is a portable USB wifi receiver so I'm really working that thing. It feels like I'm apologizing to an empty room, but sooner or later I'm going to have an audience. This primitive setup is what I'm building my website on, so I'm hoping to add improvements as I go along. This posting is also marking another occasion: The fact that I am now posting actual artwork online. --eof
