If you want to write for an audience, why not just start a blog? For me, there are several reasons. - Gopher is exactly the way that I like to consume content: all text, no ads or tracking, and everything loads instantly. When I browse the web, in fact, I typically configure my browser not to show images. - It seems like a good way to post content that wouldn't be a good fit for my regular business websites. - Gopher is fun in a nostalgic way -- almost like the old BBSing days. I love retrocomputing, but I don't have the space for the hardware. I do have space for this. - I've been a freelance writer and SEO consultant for nearly 20 years. I've written literally thousands of articles that are now being used to train LLMs. I'm pretty tired of my own phrases showing up in AI- generated content, and the idea of posting content in a realm that AI spiders ignore intrigues me. In the next entry, I'll talk about Gopher vs. Gemini and why I ultimately settled on Gopher. ╰─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────⋞╯
