January 27th, 2012: It's been an interesting day. I spent much of the morning fooling around with my mobile device of choice, my PalmOne Treo 650. Being, for all intents and purposes, a businessman, I am usually quite excited whenever I discover something that will make my job easier... or at least more interesting. Today, I finally got around to trying out CS Fax from Conklin Systems. CS Fax is a full-fledged fax solution for PalmOS devices. It allows you to send and receive faxes on most Palm devices with a modem. As a salesman, I am ALWAYS sending and receiving faxes, so naturally this appealed to me. When I read that I could write on a fax received by CS Fax and send it back to sender, I was quite enthused. I faxed a copy of our standard Request for Credit forms from our office fax, set CS Fax to receive, and sure enough, the credit form was received on my Treo. I zoomed in on the fax, and filled out the form using my Treo's stylus. I faxed it back to my office fax, and it showed up on my office fax about a minute later. First impression? Not bad. My only gripes are pretty minor. The first time I faxed the credit memo, I faxed it upside-down. While the program won't let you "flip" the received fax over, the problem can be rectified by turning the Treo (or Palm device) over and filling out the form like that. The only other gripe I have is the quality of text input when using the stylus. The tip on a Treo 650's stylus is rather broad and rounded, which makes for poor handwriting legibility... not exactly a good thing when filling out important forms. I'll have to try it again with a "sharper" stylus. Apart from that, I really enjoy CS Fax. I suspect I'll be registering it soon.
