August 23rd, 2012: Not much happening in the lab at the moment. I was fortunate to find a few goodies while trolling my usual thrift store haunts last weekend, but I haven't been fortunate enough to find the time to use them! Well, that's not *entirely* true... I picked up a portable USB card reader for $2 and tested it to see if it worked. It read the 8Gb micro SD card I bought some time ago, so that's a definite plus. I was originally going to fill it with podcasts so I could listen on my Blackberry, but I've since decided to fill it up with old Amiga .MOD files. Now, I couldn't be bothered to see if there was a mod player available for the Blackberry. Instead, I opted to download the PC app Modplug for Windows 2000, and will use that to convert the MODs (and STMs, S3Ms, ITs, XMs, etc) to MP3s so I can listen to them on any device. I also picked up another GVC 56K external modem (with PSU!), which was identical to the one I used on my Amiga 2000 a few years back. There was a caller ID program called El CID for the Amiga, which had a TON of options (call drop, caller annoy, etc) and which also supported the GVC modem's caller ID feature. I may install it on one of my Amigas once they're fixed. I also picked up a couple of serial cables, a couple of USB-to-Serial adapters, a USB-to-Parallel Printer cable, and a few other things that are largely irrelevant to this story. (One of the irrelevant things was a desk microphone for a CB radio base station. I have an antenna and now a microphone, now all I need is the CB radio itself. Hopefully a nice retro-looking base station comes my way)
