January 31st: Out of curiosity, last night I tried logging into SDF's Mastodon server with Nadia (my Powerbook G3 Lombard) in TenFourFox. It loaded fairly quickly, rendered perfectly, and scrolled smoothly. It took *forever* to type out a message, though... the text displayed so slowly that I thought I was back in the 300 baud days! It *does* work, though, and I don't see much reason not to use Nadia to log in. I may try cutting and pasting text from TextEdit into Mastodon's message entry box to see if that speeds up the posting process. When there's a will, there's a way! In other news, I've been referenced in kvothe's phlog (see footnote)! He mentioned one of my previous posts wherein I detailed the software I use on Nadia, and mentioned some of his Daily Carry. I was particularily interested in the Moleskine notepad. Being a sometime writer and compulsive doodler, this appealed to me. I'm a huge fan of paper planners, and carry either a Daytimer or Dayrunner daily planner with me everywhere I go. Rather than buy half a year's worth of daily refills for $30 CAD at Staples, I print my own two-page-per-day sheets on the laser printer at work, and punch them with a 7-hole punch I bought for a fiver on eBay. If you're a fan of paper planners as I am, you might want to check out the DIY Planner site at http://diyplanner.com. There, you can download templates for all manner of stationary and planner-related purposes, as well as their Dynamic Template program that lets you create daily planner pages for any day/month/year in a variety of formats. It's free and it's fantastic. I've been using it for years, creating entire years' worth of two-page-per-day planner sheets, and printing them double-sided on the laser printer at work (flip on short edge). On the sly, mind you... the 180+ pages use a lot of toner, which the boss wouldn't like if he found out ;) To supplement the Daytimer and Dayrunner, I also carry what's called a Hipster PDA, basically a pile of 3x5 index cards used to write down information. You can download hPDA templates for things like To-Do lists, Calendars, contact Lists, etc, which I've found handy, as well as resources to create your own templates. That's it for me for the time being. It's month end at work, and I suppose I should attempt to be productive today... *gopher://sdf.org:70/0/users/kvothe/phlog/20180130-of-faults-and-edc
