February 1st, 2018: I'm toying with the idea of reactivating my dialup account on SDF. I'd used it as my sole internet connection back in 2008, during a self-imposed exile from the internet-at-large, and rather enjoyed the experience. We still have a landline at home. Well, I shouldn't say "still have a landline" as we never intended to have one when we bought our house. But... it was included in our cable TV/internet package so we kept it. It saved us a bit of money, too, when we had an alarm installed in the house, too, as our alarm package was cheaper with a landline rather than a cell/3g connection. Anyway, back to dialup. The landline rarely gets used apart from our house alarm, so I figured I may as well put it to use. SDF still has a local-to-me 204 access number, and I can spare the $10/month from my junk food budget ;) Do I have any great reason to use dialup? Not really. Don't know if it's worthwhile if all I'm going to do is dial into SDF or the one BBS I'm on that still offers dialup (Sursum Corda). Could start a BBS of my own, but that's a largely pointless endeavour and I don't have the time to maintain it. Ugh, I'd better think this through...
