February 9th, 2018: Met with my ol' pal Slam last night for coffee. It was good to get together for a good old fashioned computer chat. We talked about our projects, what we've been doing, etc, and it sounds like he's come a long way in terms of hardware repairs (soldering, SMD, etc). We're going to meet up again in a few weeks for another chat. This gives me the kick in the ass I needed. Now I have a reason to set my computer lab up again, and work on some of my own hardware and system projects. He's offered to fix the cold-solder joints on my Commodore 1084 monitor, and we'll consider upgrading it while it's apart. He also asked if I had a spare Amiga 500 which, as it turns out, I do. So I've offered it to him, can't wait to see what he does with it. Speaking of inspiration, you folks on SDF have inspired me to learn to program again. I haven't programmed *anything* since I sold my original Coco 3 in 1992 (and even then I only programmed in Basic), and wouldn't mind learning something like C so I could program for many of my old machines. Will see what my needs are once everything is set up. This weekend is going to be spent cleaning the house up, and if I can find the time, I might start going through the boxes in my lab again.
