April 5th, 2018: I received my eBay invoice for the bike I won yesterday. Thankfully, it was a tad lower than what I was quoted. Can't complain about that! The Missus and our daughter seem to be doing alright today, so I went to work. I dread missing time at work. I dread looking at my email and finding out half the people who emailed me have ignored my Out of Office auto-responder and are complaining that they didn't get an order (or an answer). I dread finding out that a vital shipment to a customer is stuck in US Customs because the driver lost the paperwork and they need the Tariff code. I dread finding out that the order printer at a branch in another province had been down the entire day and, rather than calling the OTHER IT people at head office (my bosses) for immediate assistance, they kept emailing me and ignoring my auto-responder that said I wasn't at work and to call head office in case of IT issues). *SIGH* So, yeah, that was my day. Another day of dealing with angry customers, angry management, and angrily dealing with management and staff who ignore written procedures. "Why wasn't x done on time?" "I wasn't in. Didn't you read my auto-responder" "No. Why didn't you leave instructions?" "Why didn't you read my auto-responder? IT HAD THE INSTRUCTIONS AND CONTACT LIST YOU NEEDED IN MY ABSENCE!" "Oh. Sorry. Maybe you should write them down?" "They ARE written down. I printed them out and gave EVERYONE A COPY, and emailed a copy to each branch manager. I have repeatedly offered to cross-train someone to do this when I'm away. Don't pin this on me." Maybe I had the wrong cover on my TPS report...
