November 11th, 2019: Mrs. IPX and I are celebrating an important milestone today: we officially started dating on this day nine years ago! I remember the day well. We met up at the Manitoba Legislature, as I'd wanted to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony (an annual tradition of mine), and after wards we wandered through Downtown Winnipeg for hours, stopping at The Forks historical site for lunch, and just having a grand old time. The ceremony had been interesting, poor Jillian was terrified when the Canadian Forces fired their artillery to commemorate the occasion (I didn't know she had hyperacusis). I wasn't complaining, as it drove her into my arms :) We spent the rest of the day wandering around downtown. We stopped at the Hudsons Bay flagship store to shop, then explored some of our favourite stores in the area. After that, we wandered over to The Forks heritage site, one of Winnipeg's more popular destinations, and had a light lunch. We did a bit more shopping there, then wandered about the site, taking pictures and taking in the sights. Jill looked out across the Red River and asked me if I'd like to go for a walk through St. Boniface. St. Boniface could be described as Winnipeg's "French Quarter", it started out as a separate, French-speaking town that grew up alongside Winnipeg and was gradually subsumed as Winnipeg grew. Of course, I agreed, and we enjoyed a nice walk through the area, taking in the history and really connecting with our roots (we both share Metis ancestry!). We took in the historic St. Boniface Cathdral and visited the Louis Riel museum, which was like seeing ghosts from the past. Jill and I both had family who were in the Riel Rebellion of the late 1800s, and seeing this really brought it home... We wandered around for a few more hours before catching the bus back to her place, ordered dinner, and spent the rest of the evening on the couch, watching TV and snarking on Infomercials. It certainly was a memorable Remembrance day.
