December 10th, 2023: Well, I'm back again with another of my sporadic updates. It seems every time I set up a new computer, I remember I have a phlog/gemlog I've been neglecting... and so, here we are. I inherited an Acer Aspire E15 from my boss a few months ago, and installed Debian 12 on it when I couldn't get the stupid machine to boot an OpenBSD thumbdrive (that worked in other machines). Debian runs quite well despite this thing having a slow-ass i3 processor. Firefox ESR takes forfuckingever to launch, but once it launches, it's pretty snappy. Minor issue. I've almost got this thing sorted, software-wise. I'm trying a different tack this time: installing things as I need them, rather than going through the list of things I *might* need for future projects that will probably never materialize. I've added my preferred Gemini client (Lagrange) and turfed Pidgin in favour of Gajim. I've set up Pan, and will probably build Syncterm once I'm done writing this. I'm mostly installing communication-type stuff, as I want to engage more in 2024, and would like to limit myself to the Smolnet and Fediverse. This post was really just an excuse to play around on this new-to-me laptop... but I really do want to write and explore more. Really looking forward to doing more on Gemini this year, and plan to check out Misfin and Spartan as well...
