July 2nd, 2023:

	We had a busy day today.  Monday will be the last day of my 
vacation, so we've been trying to fit in everything we can before I have 
to go back to the salt mine Tuesday morning.

We spent much of the day out-and-about, doing some last minute shopping, 
running errands, and taking a run to the recycling depot.  Exciting stuff.

I'd planned to hook up my Sega Saturn when we got back, I've been wanting 
to play through Super Robot Taisen F and F Final... but I wasn't able to 
find the AV cable to hook it up to my TV.  Kind of a letdown, but I'll 
survive.  I could have played through Super Robot Taisen 64 on my N64, but 
I didn't feel like digging through boxes to find everything.

Instead, I gave a little thought to the Old Computer Challenge again.  I 
tested out a couple of potential machines, my Powerbook 5300 and Powerbook 
G3 Lombard, and both would serve well as my daily driver for a week.  
Neither would be particularily challenging to use for a week... as 
mentioned yesterday, both of these Powerbooks served as my daily drivers 
for years and are still set up to be productive.  Heck, I'm still able to 
get on Facebook's mobile site (m.facebook.com) with the 100MHz 5300!  
Seriously.  The login was a bit slow on the 5300, but even with 2fa I 
managed to get in, catch up on things, and even post a status update.  It 
wasn't the fastest experience, but it was usable, unlike trying to use 
Brutaldon on the same 5300.

I also played around with Frogfind, but found it didn't work with some of 
the pages I wanted to browse (like sdf.org, for example).  I'll have to 
play around with it a little more, I suppose.

The 5300 does need a little work before I can call it a serious 
contender...

My Lombard, however, needs nothing.  I could comfortably use it for a week 
with little change to my routine.  Mastodon, Diaspora, and even Movim all 
work fine (if a little slow) in TenFourFox, and even email still worked 
last I checked.  I don't have a native XMPP client, but I can always use 
Movim on the web for that.  My only gripe is that none of my printers seem 
to work with the Powerbook, but I can always print-to-PDF and mail to my 
workplace for printing Tuesday when I return.  Easy peasy.

Too bad I don't like "easy".
