Another day in the office trying to help someone new to a vaguely 
management role to do estimates. It is surprising what you can 
guesstimate. The initial guesstimate was proven right by the bottom up 
employee count. Well, as right as a guess can be. There was an awful 
lot of moaning about how we approach issues too. Slowly we can get 
the new person to pick their battles and stop trying to solve all. It 
feels bad to break their spirit but I also do not want them to be 
burnt out. Small successes are better than the big win which involves 
a huge amount of risk. I also started the process for moving a team 
member to another team. They have been struggling and require more 
attention than I can give. Feels bad and like a failure but I cannot 
spend several hours coaching only to receive unsatisfactory work which 
I end up having to do myself. Ah well. Can't win them all. The rest of 
the team are awesome though!
