20th December 2024 - Bye Mr. Case ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some unfortunate but not surprising news appeared today. Mike Case, a family acquaintance, died a couple of days ago. He was a lovely man who I knew as a maths tutor. He was very helpful while I was being baffled by a fairly rubbish old teacher who was trying their best but needed to retire. He also helped my brother with a few bits and bobs too. Mike was a dedicated educator. He taught in primary education (ages 5 to 11) and seemed to spend most of his career in Langley Primary School, Plymouth. I did my work placement there and ended up doing lots of shredding registers. I found registers and class admin notes from Mike Case when he started there in the mid 60s. After retiring, he spent his time doting on his wife who suffered with dementia and visited her every day. After she died, he continued to visit her every day albeit in the graveyard. Along side this, he tutored. It was not for the money but as he loved to educate. I first met him when he was in his 70s and he must be in his 90s now. He was always kind and supportive even when I was being daft. He was the sort of person who kept making the world around them a better place. There are certainly a great deal of people who he has helped and influenced over the years across north Plymouth and beyond. May we all find ways of being like Mike Case - caring, kind, helpful and supportive.
