13th April 2026 - An Annoying End To A Project ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Today I was called into a meeting about the status of one of the 2 projects I lead teams on. Unfortunately it was a 'we are not bidding' outcome and so after 3 years of fun, I stop. It makes sense. The project being a one off never made sense. However, with some strategic thinking, it could become a common control and instrumentation platform. Ah well. That has technical risk and no one wanted to pay for it. What was annoying is that this decision could have been made before we produced the technical pack. Lots of stress for nothing. I still have a lot to do with the other project. It just is something I did all the design effort on before 2018 and I am turning the handle on updates and responding to the various verification and validation queries. It is dull and frustrating. Everyday seems to bring more annoying problems. There are some interesting aspects so it is not all doom and gloom. It just feels a bit rubbish most of the time. There will be interesting work once again. Thankfully someone is always looking for hardware to control power systems. Just a case of keeping an ear out for the next opportunity.
