------------------------------------------------------------ Technology, (sdf.org), 11/09/2018 ------------------------------------------------------------ My thinkpad died. First the USB 3 port went out. The following day, the "asdf" and "jkl;" keys stopped working. There was no associated event (dropping, power surge, etc.) I don't have time to troubleshoot it right now, so I pulled the SSD and RAM and dropped them in a big HP laptop that the kids were using to watch movies. Linux, of course, didn't baulk. This thing is huge. The larger screen is nice, but I'm not a fan of the giganto form-factor. It has a full number pad as well. Mostly, it's a working system, and that's good enough for now. I'm not really an HP fan. I'm not sure if I'll worry about attempting a repair on the thinkpad. Maybe I'll open it up and re-seat any ribbon cables or other connections that pop out at me, but I don't think I'll do much more. Perhaps I'll replace it with an off-lease thinkpad with better specs. It was a T410, which had seen plenty of service.
