HD Voice (sdf.org), 12/05/2019

Great. Just great. Now my provider is pushing (yeah, 
pushing, I didn't ask for their update) HD Voice features on 
me. My conspiracy brain is shouting "NO!" because of some 
percieved notion that a change in my voice service *must* 
necessarily include another loss of privacy.

I can hear you laughing. I own a smartphone with multiple 
cameras on it and an always-on internet connection. The NSA 
can hear and see everything, any time they want. Why am I 
complaining about privacy?

Well, for one, I enjoy complaining. People complain about 
complaining (the nerve!) quite often, but I don't see much 
harm in it. I suppose it can get out of hand sometimes, but 
I find it productive usually.

Anyway, about that HD Voice. Right now it seems to be 
optional. They want to shift my usage to the 4GLTE network 
for all calls. They promise me the world if I'll play along. 
The slider is set to "off" right now, but I'm pretty sure 
there won't be a slider some day.

Why does this bother me so much? I can't control progress. I 
can't stem the tide. Oh man, I feel out of control. I am out 
of control.

But don't worry about me too much, mostly I'm just being 
dramatic because it's nearing the end of the day. I'll 
eventually figure out my luddite problem. It'll get 
resolved.
