------------------------------------------------------------ Technology/Internet & Social Media, (sdf.org), 09/20/2019 ------------------------------------------------------------ Ok, I give up... why do people constantly refer to "the internet AND social media" as if they are two entirely different things? The internet clearly encompasses social media. What is the value in using one massively general term like "the internet" coupled with one highly specific term like "social media"? Do people feel that they're covering all their bases when they do so? I thought, perhaps, that "social media" was seperated because it somehow might exist independent of the internet, but this simply is not so. There are apps for social media use, but they depend on the internet. Someone help me out, because I just don't get it. Perhaps it's because social media on its own is relevant to research independent from the technology that it uses? But then why lump everything else into "the internet" as if nothing matters individually? Maybe I need to think this through more. Or, maybe I need to stop worrying about how people word things relative to the technologies that I enjoy.
