# People Do Read This Stuff

Something that has been a revelation
since I started writing here--people
read it, and get in touch with you to
let you know.

What a lovely feeling.  I used to have a
blog on my own site, but as far as I
know nobody ever read a single word of
it.  Not one email about any of it.
Then, I start writing little things here
and suddenly nice people turn up in my
inbox saying they know something I
missed about such and such, or that they
enjoyed something I wrote.  It's nice.

I guess the people who have been on
Gopher and pubnixes for a long time
already knew this, but it is a special
thing to have a community of people
online where you can write things and
real people around the world read it and
get in touch with you.  A sea change from
maintaining a blog on the mainstream
web, or writing on a platform like
twitter or tumblr where this is all
mediated by profit motives.

Proof that gopher and SDF are fulfilling
those things I said I wanted in a
previous phlog entry.
