i use bash a lot, but i worry that i rely on it too much, so 
i've been trying to use ksh a little.

it's cute, and i can get colors and cwd in the prompt on 
loksh on my computer, but not on ksh93 or pdksh on sdf :/

26-01-06 - vilearn, learn vi! ------------------------------

i just discovered vilearn, a vimtutor-like experience for 
classic vi. going through it and i've been enjoying it.

a part of me just wanted to get familiar with the bindings 
so that i can better use viper on [x]emacs, but it's also a 
handy editor on its own, uvu

26-01-05 - better colors in the tty ------------------------

if your linux console is rendered by the framebuffer (like 
it is on alpine), you may be eligible to run this script and 
have softer default colors on the terminal (no more 
unreadable dark blue)

26-01-05 - 80 column rule ----------------------------------

so i usually opt for a 60 column rule, 70 if i'm 
programming. the reason for this is that if someone renders 
it with margins, or quotes it in an email, it remains within 
the 80 char limit without needing to be reformatted, so no 
advanced features are required.

longlines are cute, but i only tend to use them on gemini, 
rather than trying to say "its an obsolete convention across 
the board."

26-01-02 - short stories back up ---------------------------

i took down my handful of short stories years ago cause i 
was a little embarrassed by them, but they've grown on me, 
so i'm putting them back up :3

25-12-30 - Bhagivad Gita in plaintext ----------------------

i copied the project gutenberg fulltext of the bhagivad gita 
and separated it into chapters in a folder. in the future i 
might add an appendix with names and places. anyway, that's 
all for now :3

25-12-22 - server/client for the mercury protocol ----------

i got a cold for a while and wrote a bit of scheme partially 
implementing the partially-defined mercury:// protocol. 
check out posts/mercury-protocol.txt for more info!

25-12-13 - trying out scheme again -------------------------

1. i checked out the Akku package manager and it was pretty 
alright :3

2. i usually write in guile, but i was looking at loko 
   scheme cause it seemed interesting (although the 
   AI-generated logo is extremely off-putting).

3. i noticed that the r7rs-small document is available in 
   .info (and epub, html) format

4. i looked at SRFI-106 "basic socket interface" because i 
   was interested in working with sockets in case i wanted 
   to develop a mercury server.

the xerox alto (developed at xerox parc, & released 1973) is 
one of the first workstations to include a gui. in exchange 
for stock options in apple, xerox demonstrated their 
technology to apple engineers, which apple later used to 
create the lisa and macintosh systems. ------- in 2021, 
enrico weigel posted on the linux kernel discussion list 
that covid vaccinations are a "human experiment that 
basically creates a new humanoid race", to which linus 
torvalds (rightfully) told him to stfu

enrico later went on to create a "DEI-free" fork of the 
x.org server (xlibre).

25-12-04 - quit idling your car! ---------------------------

a lot of people have been idling their vehicles lately. the 
air smells really bad about it. i wish this wouldn't happen 
so often.

5 seconds of idling takes more feul than turning your car 
off and on again. you waste a lot of resources by idling 
your car for minutes at a time.

25-12-04 - playing with usenet -----------------------------

sometimes i return to nntp clients. i rarely post but i like 
to lurk :3 i might make an account on eternal-september.org 
and browse text-only newsgroups from there, but mostly i'm 
on 'news.tilde.club'

i don't know how to access sdf's nntp server yet? tin gives 
me a 'connection refused' message.

like the Xerox 1186 and other lisp machines, but recently 
ported to linux and other operating systems.
