===== 2025-04-18 ===== ===== SDF Site(s) Deployment Script (feels like cheating) ===== I spent a lot of today setting up a script that takes markdown files and converts them into HTML, Gemini, and Gopher files, then uses scp to send them here to the SDF server if there have been any changes. I love markdown, it's super simple to write in and I already use it for a lot of my personal documentation and note-taking. I'm pretty proud of the result, and it's nice to be able to just focus on content and then having a script convert and deploy it to all three at once. Maybe one day I'll get into MetaARPA so I can just use rsync for the "deployment" part. It feels kind of cheap in a way, though. Or defeating the purpose? The spirit? Gopher and Gemini in particular are supposed to be super simple on purpose, right? You can just write up a thing and boom, it's there, exactly as you write it. Hand-writing Gopher files feels like a way to go back to a simpler time. But I just spent hours throwing together a complicated (relatively speaking) script to handle it all for me. I don't know, it feels like I'm cheating. Like I'm not doing it the "real" way. I'll give it some time to see if I get over that feeling or not, but it does make today's victory feel bittersweet. I do really like having all the content mirrored across Gopher, Gem, and Web though. It's pretty cool, and that way I can have people view it in whichever way they prefer. But again, something about that feels like it's missing the spirit or something. Eh, maybe I've just been staring at code for too long. I also added the "cats" directory/content today, with some info about and pictures of my cats. That's what the internet's all bout, right? Can't feel bad about that one.
