Choosing a new working PC
Mai 02nd, 2019
----------------------------------------
As stated in my profile im working for Autodesk here in Germany.
Now here at Autodesk we have a policy that we are elegible for a new notebook every 3 years.
I've been working for Autodesk for 5 years now and am using a late 2013 15" macbook pro and
I really satisfies me most of the time, the only downside is that netfabb is windows only.
So to develop I usally connect to a dektop pc via remote desktop. This method is fine except
from the fact that netfabbs enhanced graphics are not working (smooth zooming, transparency).
Back to the root problem: Which notebook to choose, the selection I have is either a Thinkpad
P52 15.6" 4k Display 3.1 GHZ Intel Xeon 32GB Memory 512GB SSD Nvidia Quadro M2200M with Windows 10
active directory and all the "nice" Microsoft stuff or a Macbook Pro 15" Touchbar with 2.9GHZ 16GB
RAM 512GB SSD and a Radeon Pro 560 with thermal issues, keyboard issues and no escape key.
My main problem with the thinkpad is the windows 10. I dont know if I can adapt to using a OS
without a functioning console underneath. On the other hand it has a esc key, and a build in
ethernet connector and 32GB of RAM.
My main concerns with the macbook is the missing esc key as well as the keyboard issues as well.
Furthermore the thermal issues with the latest line of mbp.
Now there are multiple things I could do:
a) Stick with my old 2013 mbp
b) Give windows 10 with the whole business thing a try
c) Wait for the next mbp line
I have been thinking about this now a long time but I don't get to any conclusion.
