Province. The situation resembles the early days of 2020:
overwhelmed hospitals, closed cities, special units in
protective suits disinfecting streets, and police fining
violators of the regime.

The official reason given for the outbreak is chikungunya fever
- a disease transmitted through mosquito bites, which the WHO
had previously warned about. Chinese authorities state that
they are combating the insects around the clock. According
to official data, about 7,000 people have fallen ill; however,
precise figures are unavailable. The epicenter is the city
of Foshan, with a population of 10 million. For many years,
scientists have been researching the bacterium Wolbachia,
which affects insects. In China, these developments are in full
swing: in the Huangpu science park (located in Guangzhou,
the administrative center of Guangdong Province, where the
epidemic began), the largest mosquito-breeding center in the
world is situated. Some reports indicate that a single local
farm releases between 300,000 and 500,000 infected males

cities is 16 and 21 km, depending on the route of choose.
Observers suggest that Guangdong Province borders the
Taiwan Strait, and it cannot be ruled out that, under the
cover of the epidemic, an amphibious operation is being
prepared. There is also a popular opinion that this is some
sort of test of a new control system: assessing how people
respond to restrictions and how effectively orders are
carried out. The population of Guangdong is comparable to
that of a large European country, making it an ideal
"testing ground." In any case, information from China
remains contradictory, and the true situation remains
unclear. As a reminder, the Covid-19 pandemic began in
November 2019, and by the end of December, rumors about it
had leaked into Hong Kong and Taiwan. If current events
unfold as observers and media suggest, there will be a sharp
increase in cases by February 2026, and by March, the
recognition of a new pandemic. However, only time will tell
how accurate these reports are. It is worth recalling that
the first mention of the monkeypox epidemic, published on a
little-known news site in the Yemeni capital Sana'a, was
also ignored. Is a repetition of these events possible? I do
