What's New -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Version 1.0 (10/27/10): The first version. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 2. Introduction -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This version of Bases Loaded for the Game Boy is similar to the NES one, but a lot more simplistic. There are only two teams to choose from, and two simple game modes. You can play an "Official Game" against a series of teams, a "Non Official" exhibition game, or play a game against a second human player. All that aside, the game is a lot of fun to play, especially since the gameplay is not really that clunky despite the game's age. I would definitely recommend it, as it is one of the definitive baseball games for this portable system! ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 3. Controls -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ================ Batting Controls ================ A (hold): Swing bat A (tap): Bunt A + Left/Up/Right (tap direction): Run back to previous base B + Up/Down/Left (tap direction): Steal base Start: Call time out ================= Pitching Controls ================= A: Pitch ball (press first time to set aim, then A + direction to choose pitch type) B: Switch to infield view (A + direction to throw to bases) Start: Call time out ================= Fielding Controls ================= Control Pad: Move fielder towards the ball B + Left/Down/Right: Dive to catch ball B: Jump straight up to catch ball A + Up/Down/Left/Right: Throw to specified base with ball in hand B + Up/Down/Left/Right: Run to specified base with ball in hand ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 4. Overview -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ============== Gameplay Modes ============== In this game, you can either play against the computer or against a second human player. In 1 Player mode, you can choose the game mode (use Up/Down) and music (use Left/Right). The modes are USA Mode and JPN Mode; the only differences are the pitch speeds being reported in miles or kilometers, and the order of balls/strikes in the display. The next screen lets you choose what type of game you want to play. An Official Game is your standard 9-inning game, where you can play a number of teams one at a time in a tournament of sorts. The Non Official Game is for fun, sort of like an exhibition game. In Non Official Game mode, you can set the number of innings by pressing Left/Right. Official Games must be the full 9 innings. Ahead, you can pick from the two teams, East and West, by pressing Left or Right. Use Up/Down to select the starting pitcher for the team you choose, and the game will begin! ============ In-Game Tips ============ As you will notice, the controls when trying to steal a base are clunky. You will need to hold B and tap the next base's direction repeatedly while you are at bat, but it seems that the stealing attempt only happens once the pitch is thrown. Also, when bunting, hold Left/Right to choose the direction of your bunt; that way it doesn't go right back to the pitcher for an easy out! Luckily, when playing the field, your players tend to move at a decent speed. If you are playing the field after the ball is hit, you will be able to control your players' movements with the Control Pad. This mode seems to be advanced enough, so if a player is standing in the right spot to catch a fly ball, you will see their hands flashing. Your infielders will run to their respective bases, but you can control the nearest player to the ball by using the Control Pad. If you are at bat and have runners on base, there is something you need to be careful about. If the ball is hit and the runners advance to base, and the ball is CAUGHT, the runners must tag the starting base again or they can be thrown/tagged out at that base (if you know baseball, this makes sense). However, if you send your runners to the next base and they have already arrived at the base, you can NOT send them back, causing some forced outs to occur, so watch out! ========= Post-Game ========= After a game ends, you will go to a screen where you will see the box score, most importantly. If you are playing in Offical Game mode and you won, you will go on to the next game; otherwise you must replay the same team until you win. ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 5. Team Data -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= NOTE: In this game, there are no designated hitters. Therefore, the pitcher always bats in the #9 position. You can, however, substitute players with the relievers as needed, regardless of their official designation. You can substitute pitchers, fielders, runners, and even the current batters. Once you switch someone out though, they can not be brought back! Also note that players designated as pitchers have a different set of statistics even though they can be used as batters, too. For the players listed below, the first eight on the left are the eight starting batters in the lineup. The four at the end of the list are the substitute batters. The four players on the right are the pitchers, with the first pitcher on the list batting in the #9 position initially. ========= East Team ========= Batters Pitchers ------- -------- Name L/R Average HR Name L/R ERA ---- --- ------- -- ---- --- --- Cook R .296 31 Rand L 2.96 Mich R .287 8 Coll R 3.07 Bark L .334 49 Ther L 2.61 Clar R .296 42 Shak R 3.87 Plan L .296 12 Ills R .261 7 Stif R .252 5 Wolf L .387 1 Poe R .296 12 Clan R .234 13 King R .261 10 Hahn L .252 7 Blue L .270 9 ========= West Team ========= Batters Pitchers ------- -------- Name L/R Average HR Name L/R ERA ---- --- ------- -- ---- --- --- Setz L .296 15 Robb R 3.07 Ruby R .361 2 Cary R 3.16 Cone R .307 38 Show L 4.07 Madd L .316 43 Myer R 2.70 Blue L .307 37 Lutz R .261 8 Berk R .252 5 Main R .270 7 Zigg L .307 10 Prop R .296 9 Naby R .252 10 Kaz R .261 8 Skaj R .243 11 ***************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= 6.
