------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------[SPACE INVADERS]---------------------------- ---------------------------------[by Ice Queen Zero]--------------------------- ------------------------------------[Atari 5200]------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- o---------------------o INTRODUCTION o---------------------o Despite all the hardships that the Atari 5200 has been through, there was at least one game that was good enough to be worth playing and one of those is Space Invaders and based on the many ports of the game, this version is the best one for its era in my opinion. o---------------------o DISCLAIMER o---------------------o Space Invaders and its characters are trademarks of Taito and all copyrights belong to them. To prolong the descent, simply destroy the alien column closest to the edge and the fleet will take longer to reach the edge and go down. -Each phase consists of two waves (enemies change with each phase). The more you kill the faster the fleet moves. After Phase number 4, the enemies will stay the same until the game is over. -When a new phase begins, the enemies will start their fleet closer to the floor as before. -When you get to phase 4 (Wave 7), you will be tasked with surviving what is called a Close Encounter where the enemies are dangerously close to the floor at the start and you have to get busy as the aliens attack aggressively and if you are not careful, they reach Ground Zero in no time. -If you survive Wave 7 or any other wave whose number is divisible by 7, then a spaceship will pick you up and all barriers will be restored on the next wave. -Speaking of barriers. They server to protect you from shots coming from above. It can also block your shots. It deteriorates when hit from either side. If the enemy fleet is so low, then all barriers disappear completely. If you clear the enemy fleet in time, the barriers will be restored to how they looked before they went away. -During the course of the game, you will occasionally see a flying space saucer moving across the top of the screen. Destroying it will give you random bonus points. To get the max 60 points, shoot 14 shoots and then when the saucer is on the screen, the 15th shot will get you 60 points. -There are two ways to get a game over: letting the enemy reach Ground Zero or running out of lives which allows the enemy to reach Ground Zero. o---------------------o VARIATIONS o---------------------o From the manual: GAME 1: A good choice for beginners, this easiest SPACE INVADERS game offers slow enemy bombs and five lives for you. GAME 2: In this version the enemy bombs alternate between slow and fast, and you have five lives (turns). GAME 3: You have five lives and all the enemy bombs are fast. GAME 4: With slow enemy bombs, this version is identical to Game 1, except that you have three lives instead of five. GAME 5: The alien bombs alternate between slow and fast and you have three lives. GAME 6: All the enemy bombs are fast and you have three lives. GAME 7: The enemy bombs are slow but, in this game, the invaders use sophisticated radar to hom-in on you.
