This version isn't even going to be submitted because there is so much more that needs to be done. Version 0.2 will probably be the first version that is submitted. 3k 0.2 (11/21/01) - This is the first real version of this guide. I know that there is still a lot to be done but this has a lot more in it than the last one did. Everything will be updated until this guide is complete. The main things that need to be updated are the Team Guides section and the Card Book. If you have any strategies then please email them to me at soccerboy105@hotmail.com. 29k 0.3 (11/27/01) - I decided not to post the last version because it was missing too much. I have almost all of the cards done and I am working on the team guides. The team guides will be started in the next update. I was going to start them in this one but decided against it. I will also have codes and the whatnot in the next update. If you have something that you want to submit then email it to me at soccerboy105@hotmail.com. 22.6k 0.4 (12/8/01) - The last version wasn't accepted so I decided to update it and include more stuff and see if it would be accepted this time. I added schedules for some of the AFC teams and I also added codes for it. Some more of the schedules for the AFC teams will be added next time. 27.1k 0.5 (12/9/01) - I added a couple more schedules and some more cards. I am still trying to get a complete card list. The next update will include some more schedules and some more cards. 30.8k 0.6 (1/11/02) - After taking a long break I have finally updated again. I added some more cards that were sent to me by email. I am going to be updating the schedules throughout the next week or so and try to get them finished. 31.9k --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. |================================| | My Policy On Using Cheat Codes | |================================| Let me start off by saying that I am personally against using cheat codes in sports games. The reason for me feeling this way is because if you use a cheat code to beat the computer into the ground 105+ to 0 then you haven't learned anything. The purpose of the game is so that you can perfect you abilities against the computer so that when your friends come over you can smother them. If you really want to learn then play the game on All-Madden mode. It is the hardest mode in the game but it will greatly improve your running and passing game along with helps you make smart decisions on defense. So please don't use cheat codes. I have included cheat codes and gameshark codes because I know that sometimes you might want to relieve a little stress by destroying the computer. You can find them at the end of this Faq. Some people might say that I am contradicting myself by saying that it is okay to use cheat codes at some times. The fact of the matter is, if you are having a horrible day and you want some way to relieve your stress then playing against the computer on the Rookie game mode with codes is going to greatly relieve your stress factor. I am not saying that it is okay to use codes every single time you play the game. I hope that that cleared up any misunderstanding. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. |============| | Game Modes | |============| There are a lot of different game modes that you can choose from when you play Madden NFL 2002. There are of course your normal modes such as "Exhibition" and "Season" but Madden 2002 adds some more game modes that a lot of other NFL games don't have. Some of these new modes are "Franchise" and "Madden Classic". Keep reading to find out all you need to know about these modes and more. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-I)=-=-=-=-=-=- | Exhibition | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- In exhibition mode you can choose any of the 32 teams in the NFL. Yes I said 32. Madden has seen fit to include the newest expansion team in the NFL, the Houston Texans. You can pit your favorite team against their archrivals or you can use any of the teams that you have unlocked by using the Madden Cards. More on Madden Cards later in the FAQ. You could also use a team that you created. This is where you will go if you want to play your friends. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-II)=-=-=-=-=-= | Season | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-II)=-=-=-=-=-= In the season mode you take any of the 31 teams in the NFL currently through the 2002 season. The schedule that you play is the same one that the team is playing at this moment. You can't use any of the teams gained by buying cards but you can take you favorite team through their 2001-2002 season. The Playoffs and Super Bowl culminate the season if you are good enough to make it to them. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-III)=-=-=-=-=- | Franchise | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-III)=-=-=-=-=- In the franchise mode you pick a team and take them through 30 seasons. You have to make smart decisions when it comes to making trades, extending contracts and things of such or you will get fired. If you do a good job then you will be the envy of the other teams. If you do a bad job then you will be lucky to find a job as the towel boy for another team. So making good decisions is a must if you want to succeed in this mode. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IV)=-=-=-=-=-= | Custom League | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IV)=-=-=-=-=-= The custom league is basically just what it says. You pick the teams, the length of the season and all of the other things that you couldn't normally pick when doing a season or franchise. This mode is good if you have a created team or you want to play a 2-person season. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-V)=-=-=-=-=-=- | Tournament | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-V)=-=-=-=-=-=- In the tournament you can play either a single or double elimination playoff like tournament. Great to use if you have friends over. You can see who is the best by pairing certain people together. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VI)=-=-=-=-=-= | Coaches Corner | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VI)=-=-=-=-=-= You can brush up on your skills with you favorite team. In the training mode John Madden and his telecaster will help you improve your playcalling skills. Madden runs the play first with an in-depth preview, and then it's your turn to take control. You can earn tokens with big plays; so pay attention to what John Madden has to say. Training mode consists of a total of 18 plays and 6 formations. The more yards you gain on a play, the more points you will earn. You can run each play a maximum of 5 times. The number of tokens that you receive is half of the total points that you got for that try. If you got 50 points total for a certain play then you would get 25 tokens. The number of tokens that you can get in the training mode depends on how good you are at running each play. In the team-training mode you can practice every play in a certain teams playbook. It is helpful because you can see what plays run good against what defensive formations. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VII)=-=-=-=-=- | Situation | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VII)=-=-=-=-=- It's late in the fourth quarter and you're trailing by four. See if you can pull off the win to keep your playoff hopes alive. Or you can work on the 15 greatest games of all time. Each consecutive win unlocks the next Great Game. More on the 15 Great Games later in this Faq. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VIII)=-=-=-=-= | Two Minute Drill | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VIII)=-=-=-=-= It's down to the wire and you have two minutes to prove you have what it takes to win in crunch time. Earn points for big plays as you move the ball down the field. In the Two Minute Challenge up to 10 players can participate. After a score, you get the ball back; as long as there is time still remaining on the clock. -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IX)=-=-=-=-=-= | Madden Classic | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IX)=-=-=-=-=-= In this new mode that was included in Madden NFL 2002 you can go back to the good old days of football by playing the 16-bit version of Madden. Take note that certain teams won't be there because they are expansion or they might be under a different name. (Tennessee Titans will be the Houston Oilers.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. |==========| | Controls | |==========| -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-I)=-=-=-=-=-=- | General Gameplay | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Start - Pause Game Select - Call Timeout L2 - Instant Replay (after play) -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-II)=-=-=-=-=-= | Playcalling | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-II)=-=-=-=-=-= D-Button - Cycle sets and formations X - Select set and formation D-Button Up/Down and then [], X, or O - Select play R1 - Flip play /\ - Previous formation/set -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-III)=-=-=-=-=- | Offense (Before The Snap) | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-III)=-=-=-=-=- L1/R1 - View receivers to the left/right O - Fake the snap [] then [],X,O,L1,L2,R1 - Call an audible [] then /\ - Cancel an audible at the line of scrimmage D-Button left/right - Move receiver in motion (when available) L1/R1 + R2 - Madden meter [] then R2 - Flip play at line of scrimmage X - Snap the ball -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IV)=-=-=-=-=-= | Running | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IV)=-=-=-=-=-= X - Speed burst/Head down [] - Dive/QB slide /\ - Jump/Hurdle O - Spin R2 - Stiff-arm L1/R1 - Juke left/right L2 - Lateral the ball -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-V)=-=-=-=-=-=- | Passing | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-V)=-=-=-=-=-=- X (after the snap) - View available receivers X, [], O, L1, or R1 - Pass to receiver with corresponding symbol L2 + /\ - Throw ball away R2 + button symbol of eligible receiver - Pump fake (available once) -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VI)=-=-=-=-=-= | Receiving | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VI)=-=-=-=-=-= X (while ball is airborne) - Take control of receiver [] - Dive for pass /\ - Jump for pass -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VII)=-=-=-=-=- | Defense (Before The Snap) | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VII)=-=-=-=-=- X/O - Cycle Defender D-Button - Reposition player L1 - Defensive line shift R1 - Secondary shift for bump and run and loose coverage [] then [],Z,O,L1,L2,R1 - Call an audible -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VIII)=-=-=-=-= | Defense (After The Snap) | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-VIII)=-=-=-=-= X - Control player nearest to the ball [] - Dive O - Power tackle/Speed burst /\ - Jump R1 - Power/Swim move (defensive line) L1 - Swat ball R2 - Spin move L2 - Strip ball -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IX)=-=-=-=-=-= | Kicking Game | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-IX)=-=-=-=-=-= Kickoff/Field goals - X then X,O,/\ Punt - X then X -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-X)=-=-=-=-=-=- | Kickoff/Punt Returning | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- D-Button - Control return man X - Switch players /\ - Fair catch/Kneel (must have control of return man) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. |==============| | Madden Cards | |==============| -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-I)=-=-=-=-=-=- | Challenges | -=-=-=-=-=-=(3-I)=-=-=-=-=-=- ----------- Token Scale ----------- Level 1: Rookie - 1 Pro - 2 All Pro - 3 All-Madden - 6 Level 2: Rookie - 2 Pro - 4 All Pro - 6 All-Madden - 12 Level 3: Rookie - 3 Pro - 6 All Pro - 9 All-Madden - 18 Level 4: Rookie - 4 Pro - 8 All Pro - 12 All-Madden - 24 Level 5: Rookie - 5 Pro - 10 All Pro - 15 All-Madden - 30 ----- Tasks ----- =-=-= Level 1 -=-=- - Complete A 30 Yd. Do the training mode in the Coaches Corner. Here, you earn "tokens", used a points. Whenever you complete a certain play, you earn tokens. Do every play that the game gives you. Try to do them correctly so you can earn as many tokens a possible. When you have completed each play, you can earn no more tokens. Save your stats in the profile. Then, go to the Madden Card section. In this section, make the selection under the Challenge Status section (should be in the middle). In here you can buy cards, just like baseball trading cards. Cards are bought in packs. Every card has a player (boosts stats by certain percent), veteran player that you can sign to your roster, SuperBowl team (for example, the 1999 Rams), created team, new stadium, cheerleader cards, and cheat cards. The cheat cards are cheats, just like in Madden 2000 or 2001 (and some new cheats). You can buy the cards with the tokens you have just earned. Almost every card can normally only be used once. Save the profile after you have all the cards you want. You can activate all the cards you want, and after the game, most of them will be gone. However they will only remain gone if you save your profile after the game. First, save the game, but do not save the profile. Restart the game. Start the game again and load the profile. Then, select Madden Cards: Activate. If done correctly, all of your cards should be back to the amount that they were. Do this after every game and you should be able to use the cheats indefinitely. Note: This was done in franchise mode Easy Sacks ---------- Go to Dime formation, and then select "Double Slot". Watch your defensive ends go for a sack. "Line Shift" will also work as well. This is under the Raiders playbook. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20. |=========| | Credits | |=========| CJayC - For making the greatest games site ever, Gamefaqs.
