      INTRODUCTION

American Football is one of my favorite sports even though I'm a girl. Shoot,
some of my friends say I'm a tomboy because I watch the NFL every Sunday and
Monday. I do participate in the NFL Prediction games they hold every year in
the GameFAQs Social Board. OK, enough jibba jabba. The next classic game I am
going to cover is Football for the Atari 2600. For its time, it was a fun game
to get used too. It's still fun to play as it is now just for competitive means
believe it or not.

         STORY

There is no story to the game. You are just trying to score more points than
your opponent.

       CONTROLS
o---------------------o

D-pad: move in that direction during live ball. The cardinal directions will
determine the play chosen. Control the pass and kick too. (See gameplay for 
more info)

Button: Pass or Punt the ball.

       GAMEPLAY
o---------------------o

Game 1: Players control the ball carrier and the flight of the pass or kick.
The defensive player controls the lineman or the defensive back (hold down the
button to control the d-back).

Game 2: Set the tone for the Tecmo Bowl series. You choose a play that tries to
outdo the opponent's play as the players run their set pattern when not being
controlled by the joystick.

Game 3: Both sides are controlled by the computer except for the passing and
the kicking which you can control by pressing the button.

Offensive Plays
Down: Split Left
Left: Tight Right
Up: Split Right
Right: Tight Left
Button: Punt

Defensive Plays
Down: Split Left
Left: Tight Right
Up: Split Right
Right: Tight Left
Button: Deep

- The game runs on a 5:00 timer. It only runs when the ball is live.

- The game is two-players only but there is an option to let the computer go at
  it on both sides but you get to pass or punt for the computer with the red
  button.

- Score 7 points by making it to your endzone safely (Touchdown)

- Score 2 points by tackling the opponent in the opposite endzone (Safety)

- Scoring a safety also gives you possession of the ball.

- When punting, if the ball reaches the endzone it results in a touchback

- There is a blue line in the field, you must cross that line in 4 downs to
  get a first down or else you will lose possession.

- Whoever has the highest score at the end of the 5:00 is the winner and the
  game will be over.

- Game A provides a slighter challenge than Game B. You can't shift left and
  right as quickly.

- Always remember that the players will go opposite directions if you are white
  instead of red when a play is picked.
