Game Information: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "We have one chance.Find a strong place, and band together.Build out defenses. Gather supplies. Atm ourselves for the fight and save as many souls as we can. Take back our town, our lives, our world from the hungry dark. That wave will break over this town like a tsunami and take the last of us with them...unless we fight back." Fort zombie is a focused-scope, casual RPG title in which the game world revovles around a single building-for fort- and the mission specific chuncks of the small town that surrounds it. Instead of a major city or vast countryside, players focus thier efforts on building up a single structure, finding and training survivors, and venturing out into the town looking for supplies. Features Choose one of three buildings-the school, the prison, and the police station- as your fort zombie, each one with its own strengths and weaknesses! Real time movement and combat keep the tensions level high while trying to achieve objectives before your characters run out of ammunition, food or luck! Dozen of zombies, some with special abilities derived from their half rememberd lives before becoming undead! Piety, Indiana, a variable 3D town, created using Kerberos' mix-and-match tile system, for maximum replayability, Physx(r) engine adds to the mayhem! Dozen of town locations to search (stores, restaurants, gas stations, ruins, homes) and countless items to find and use in building up the fort or building up your group characters(food, fuel, generators, tools, guns, etc.) "collectible" NPC survivor-families give players surprising new abilities, but you have to find them all first! Sound: DirectX-compatible DirectX®:9.0c ------Taken from Gamersgate Product Description. These specs are whats recommended by the developers to fully experience the game, but not required. It is possible to run this game with lower specs. I run this game with the following specs; Windows Vista 32-bit Intel Core2 Duo 1.8ghz 2gb memory 256mb Nvidia Gefore 8500GT I have certain settings on medium and low and the game stil lags in certain areas, due to lighting effects, massive amount of zombies, multiple double storybuildings, etc. Many people on the Kerberos forums have posted they have well above the recommended specs and stil have lag/problems...its just one of those games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Introduction: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The objective of Fort Zombie is to secure one of three forts, police station, Prison and the school(in order of difficulty) and survive the final wave of zombies that have moved from a near city to your location. You have 12 days to prepare anyway you want to; collect survivors and arm them to help you, collect medical equipment, food , weapons & ammo, build barricades and traps anywhere inside your fort you choose. This is your main base and from here you manage your daily tasks.The following is the options you can choose from; Fort: Loads up your fort so you can run around and place where you want barricades and traps to be built( more on that later )and move your survivors into strategic battle places. Inventory: This is where you manage your characters and the inventory of any survivors you have recused. All supples are placed into the forts inventory and sorted into different tabs. Weapons, Food, Medicine, Supplies and Miscellaneous. This screen is also where you turn on/off your three generators(they degrade with use so need to be repaired after a certain amount of time) and has 4 mini graphs which show eg: how many food units you have and what is required to eat that day. Survivors: Here is where you can manage what daily tasks you want them working on. Up to 3 can join your raiding party, appoint one as doctor , one as nurse, work on building the barricades/traps you placed during Fort option and to repair generators. (Having light on during the night helps them build faster) You can also see how many survivors you have and read thier stats and backstory. You can appoint yourself any of the mentioned roles if you want, but the survivors wont go out on supply runs by themsevles. Missions: You can see whose coming with you on the supply/rescue run and see what missions are avaiable. There are 3 types of missions available; Weapons: This mission leads you to a specific area in the map and has a good chance of finding powerful weapons and ammo. Supplies: This is divided between Food and trap building material, you dont know which it is until you set out and find the area. Survivors: Either a lone survivor or mutliple survivors are hiding and waiting to be rescued. Usually in barricaded houses, that doesnt mean you can take your time because sometimes zombies spawn close to them and you need to get to them before the zombies do.Important note. You will come across family members, they will teach eachother skills and if you have already rescued one of thier family they will always join you. All mission runs have a compass that lead you vaguely in the right direction, you will have to run right around the building to make sure thats where it is pointing sometimes to be sure. Just because you go on a survivor run that doesnt mean you cant stil find loot in places like gun shops etc..only you will have less of a chance then where the mission area points to.(Supply and weapon missions dont have any survivors) End day: Click this red tab to end the current day, work doesnt really get done during the day they like to work during the night apparently. This also brings up a clipboard that shows you how much food / medical supplies were consumed. How much health was healed, due to treatment or just good old sleep, skills you worked on and gained levels, tasks you set that gained progess or completed and ofcourse new rumours that give you your next days missions. Its important to note that this an RPG kind of game and skills / damage results from weapons come from behind the scene calculations. Ex from the manual; I am on the run and about to fire an M-16 at medium range. My M-16 skill is 12, my Assault weapon skill is 25 and my Finesse attribute is 20. When i pull the trigger, the game will calculate a deviation cone based on my skill total, the weapon behavior and will take into account i am moving. But for our purposes, the skill total is calculated as follows: Standard Skill% + Umbrella Skill + Base Attribute = Accuracy Modifier 12 +25 +20 =57% (just because you aim the cursor at the zombie, doesnt mean you wil hit it) Melee combat is totally different, your particular skill ex blade, hand to hand dictates entirely whether you will hit your target zombie or not. And also how easily he will hit you. Ex i am armed with a sword and fighting a zombie. my skill is 32%, when i swing i have a 35% chance to hit the zombie, and the zombie has half the chance of your skill to hit you, so 16%. Stats: Read the manual for explaination, ill just go over quickly what they apply to and reccomended skill level you could take. Smarts: Applied to the equation for many of the skills, some ex's are; carpentry, first aid, interation( interation of around 15-25 is needed to successfully rescue some stubborn survivors, if you have a low smarts and interation skill they will say "no thanks people like you get people killed" Having it around 15-20 is alright, anything lower then 15 and u might feel it. Power: Ive never actually seen any result from this skill, supposed to stop rot from happening(zombie infection) still i wouldnt go any lower then 15. Speed: I have always kept this at 20 on my different playthroughs, its enough to keep you jogging away and keeping distance, having it at 30 doesnt increase that speed but hardly worth it, there are more important attributes you need. Toughness: How much damage you can take etc and also how long you can run while sprinting (stamina).I always take 30-40 depending on what class i roll. 30 gives me enough to burst sprint and be okay, but 40 has enough to keep you sprinting for a while. Finesse: 30 plus for this one, needed badly to help increase accuracy with weapons. Character Creation: Here is where you pick what profession and skills your character has, he is always Ben Riley though. You can choose from Paramedic, Solider, Police Officer construction worker, ex-convict, trucker, Doctor , Reporter and Colledge Stu- dent. Each class has a different load out of attribute and skill points relevent to thier professions. You can deduct some of the skills and add it to others but all the skills have a certain amount you can take then you cant take anymore from that skill. After your done click on 'next' and you then choose what difficulty setting you want to play on, which is represented by the different types of Forts, in order of difficulty, Police Station, Prison, School. Then click 'Done' and you get a load screen and start playing the game! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. The Game: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You start off in the corner of the map and have three boxes/containers infront of you, before you can do anything a tutorial box will pop up and show you the ropes. Once done you get a little bit of food/medical supplies, a melee weapon (crowbar-club skill) and a .38 dedective handgun and ammo.( This gun is really bad even with a high pistol skill, but youll have to use it unless you wanna risk melee combat. Which is good one on one, but thats it or youll take too much damage even with a very high melee weapon skill) From here you need to make it to your Fort, location is indicated by compass. Note. Every loading screen that brings you into town for supplies will random- ize the enitre map, that includes what buildings are where, thier contents and where the zombies are. ( so dont memorize where certain buildings are ) Places of interest: I'll list a few places you might wanna check for loot regardless what mission you are on; Kerberos Office - This is the company that developed the game, always keep an eye out for their office(its always right next to the huge water tower). Front door is always locked, with almost always 2 army zombies with assualt weapons inside(more on these later) and a few at the back entrance to make things even harder for you. Always a good chance of finding the powerful M4 assualt weapon,its ammo, and less likely to find M16 and a katana or broadsword. Their fridge doesnt have much more then milk so dont get your hopes up thier. Haymans Sporting store- i think thats it or i just made it up. You'll notice it by the big red poster at the front and back of the building. Its a sporting store so always check two places. If you enter from the front doors, sprint right to the back right corner, this is the gun/ammo section. Only search the waist high container/shelf that has a couple of coloured ammo boxes inside it. Dont bother with anything else there, nothing ever shows up unless weapon mission brings you there then you will find something. ALso while your here and need some medical equipment, search the shelf near the back wall that has first aid kits stacked on it if your coming from the front doors. Trigger Guard- Piety's Gun store. This place always changes searching objects, things you want to search is the desk with the pistol sized weapon sitting on- top.front left corner of shop from the front doors. Search any container/shelf that has visible ammo boxes inside. And also keep an eye out for Green Chests, they have something writting on it like T-9 and sometimes have some goodies. If your after some food, almost always a box of military rations on the corner of the counter next to the cash register. Fencing Store- Front counter has chocolate bars, among the containers you'll see a couple of red tool boxes sitting either in them or on the floor, they have some trap materials ( butchers knife, bungie cord etc ). Search the shelf thats opposide the door that leads into a room, other door leads out- side. Usually has some more trap supplies. The room itself, search the Green Chests stacked up against the wall, sometimes contains a shotgun and ammo. Butcher Shop- I cant remember the exact name but its right next to a coffee shop and i alsot dont remember if its a food mission that brings you here but this is where the biggest food is found, Ham 50 units. ( 50 units is enough to feed about 5-6 people a day ). Quarantine/Medical setup- Noticable by the four big white tents/wateva, the fence surrounding it and the two army supply trucks parked out front. first truck has a couple military rations, the second has the Green Chests and contains sometimes the rifle, and different types of ammo. From standing at entrance of the fence, the last tent on the right only contains medical equipment, the desk and the cabinent in the corner is what you want to search. The other tents rarely come up with anything, and if they do its nothing speical. Army jeeps- Randomly spread out on some streets, contains fuel and sometimes ammo. If you want to make it straight to your fort you probably should, until you get the hang of it you probably die 6 times before you make it ( like me ). Important note. You can only save once you reach the fort and capture it. So dont spend alot of time collecting supplies. Tips- Important tip about zombies, if you can break thier line of sight of you they will no longer chase after you, given that you have enough distance and thier not right on ur tail. Ex. Round around the corner of a building or fence. You will know when you have been detected because you will see above thier heads in red writing 'mmmmm brains', and 'rrrrrrrrr?' when a zombie looses sight of you or when it hears weapon fireing noise. Sound, shotguns are the loudest weapons in the game so far, if you go and start blasting you will get any zombie in the area that can hear the noise all come to the location to check it out, if your not there or hiding they'll go back, if your there well yeah....RUN Searching, the spot skill dictates the chance of finding loot in an object and increases how fast you can search. If you search for Ex. any of the areas i mentioned above, and turn up with nothing, move a touch in any direction and search again. If you have a low spot skill and you know something should be inside the thing you want to search, it make take multiple trys, but you'll get it! Once your've reached the fort you chose, im going to assume you chose the easy one ( police station ) clear out any zombies inside, usually only under 10. Important note. Before you take out all of them, check the closet, from the front doors, jump over the counter and turn right, its behind that door. Here you should find a shotgun and ammo for it...sometimes you'll get a decent handgun with SHOTGUN ammo lol, just hope for a shotty. This will be your good freind during the early to mid missions. Once you have killed the zombies inside your fort, BASE CAPTURED will appear on the screen ( if it hasn't theres some zombie hiding somewhere, check toilets, basement, and the doors outside that lead inside. Click anywhere on the screen and then click on 'Done' at the bottom right corner of the screen. At this point you can SAVE!!! But that's about it, click on Fort option to explore your base, otherwise click end day and start Day 1. Prison also has a similar weapon location, Wardens office on the second floor, the room by itself against the wall somewheres. School has none, not even a principal office, atleast i didnt find it. Apparently none of the principals in Piety are packing. Zombie Types: Not going to list them all, but a few notable threats. Old Man Jogger- notcieable by the blue jogging suit and jogs on the spot if he hasnt spotted you yet. This guy is your biggest threat, If you dont break line of sight immediatlely or soon after he spots you he will catch you quickly. He jogs fast enough to keep up with 20 speed, and if theres no corners or cover around, you'll never get rid of him. Best to blow him away with shotty when he gets at medium distance if your low on health. Hes also the only zombie that can attack at high speed, if you took less then 20 speed and hes on your tail, he take swipes at you until you die. Army - Zombies in this game have rettained some of thier former skills, if you come across this guy hes in a green suit and is packing an assault weapon. Deadly at close range, best to take him out at long range with a rifle. He usually guards mission specific locations like weapons stores and ofcousrse the kerberos office at all times. Cop - Zombie in blue, fires a pistol. Both him and army types fire a round off every 2-3 seconds. Devs on forums told me they use 0 Weapon skill and thier cone of accuracy is doubled, but i dont care, if you dont take him out more often then not, on your way back to exit zone , you'll be carrying loot and supplies it took you 20 minutes to gather and all of a sudden your dead. One of his stray bullets to the head, FUN. Surgeon- Zombie in green scrubs, no more of a direct threat then any other zombie, but this guys special. If there are body parts of dead zombies you've recently killed are lying on the floor and hes around, hell gladly walk over, pick em up and reattach heads and arms and presto! Remember that Jogger that annoyed you? well hes back from the dead.....again. All other types of zombies you can generally take that the bigger the size the more rounds it takes to drop em, except for headshots, always 1 hit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Technical Support: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ At the start of any load out supply run when you start a mission, scroll up on the mouse button so your camera is behind Riley and slowly rotate 360 degrees. This helps with most of the lag you might experience. This game loads things as you see them so take a few seconds to pan in all directions. If things are still chugging for you, go into settings and change them to what i have here; ( this is what i play at with the system specs i listed earlier ) Draw Distance- Moderate ( changes how far you can see ) Light Draw Distance- Low ( the distance that the game produces the lighting effect- dunno really ) Keep Render quality on normal, go below it and theres a big difference in graphics. Most of the lag and slowdowns come from the lighting/sound effects. Aside from that update your sound and graphics drivers to the latest. Q.Why do some zombies seem to 'clip' through walls? A.Again 10 bucks, doesnt happen often. Q. My raiding party survivors are complete idiots, what the hell? A. Yeah AI pathing kinda sucks at the mo, i just leave em behind and go all rambo. End.
