Technical____________________________________________________________[TECH] +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ || || || Story Mode || [S0] || || +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Before we get started, I'd like to note that there are a ton of ways to complete each level. This guide is simply how I've done it. You can also find this guide on the CheatMasters blog at: http://www.cheatmasters.com/blog/2011/08/31/from-dust-walkthough-guide/ | ========== | | | | The Breath | [S1] | | | ========== | This first level is a basic tutorial mission. There are no real dangers here, and you can play around with what little earth it gives you. Hold the Left Trigger down to create the Breath. You will control this throughout the game. When prompted, use the Left Thumbstick to move and the Right Thumbstick to look around. Your people are already moving towards the goal, as indicated by the white lines laying on the ground. You can press the Right Bumper to zoom out and get a better look at the area. Follow the men until they can go no further. The white lines turn red, and they'll start chattering for help. You need to make a bridge of earth that allows them to get over to the portal. The light brown material scattered across the area is earth. The black material is rock. You cannot alter it at this point. You can, however, pick up the earth and deposit it elsewhere. Hold the Left Trigger down to scoop up a bunch of earth. When you've gotten all you can carry, you'll hear a sound effect and your controller will vibrate a bit. Now move your ball of earth to the people and start laying it down in a line that extends from them to the opposite shore. You'll have to do this at least a couple of times to make a complete bridge. Once they're able to get across, the people will automatically gather at the portal. After five men gather at the portal, you can press A to continue to the next level. Before you do that, I suggest playing around the earth a bit, to see how it interacts with the world. If you're carrying around earth (or anything, for that matter), you can empty it all out at once by holding the Right Trigger and pressing the Left Trigger. | ========== | | | | The Ritual | [S2] | | | ========== | This mission introduces you to several concepts, the most important of which are the totems. These tall structures function as villages, once you send men to capture them. You must keep these safe at all costs. The only way to open the end portal is to have a village around each totem. There is no real danger here. Build a land bridge to connect your men with the first totem's area. Press A on the totem to send your men to it. Once they've acquired it, buildings will start popping up, along with vegetation. The vegetation will automatically spread across all connected earth. After acquiring the second totem, a gauge appears in the lower left of your screen, indicating how much of the world is covered in vegetation. Fill this gauge up to get a memory. The second totem has water around it that you must absorb and dump out into the sea. You cannot capture totems if there is water or lava too close. Once it's clear, send the men to it and make a land bridge for them to get across. When they capture it, you'll notice that earth also appears. This allows vegetation to pop up, and soon the entire area will be covered in grass and trees. This opens the portal up. Before you mess with that, however, look up the hill from the second totem. You should see a round patch of earth with a rock in the middle of it. Send a man over to that rock. Once he's there, press A to retrieve a memory from it. Chances are you won't be able to completely cover the area with vegetation without making use of the large patch of land with water running through it. The water is coming from a source at the top of the mountain. Sources provide infinite water, which can be good or bad. In this scenario, it's bad. Use a bunch of earth to bury the source. You can then link the earth here with any other piece of earth covered in vegetation. Nature will do the rest. Once you have about 75% of the area covered in vegetation, animals will show up. Once you've got the place entirely covered, you can do whatever you want. You already have the memory, and the 100% will stay, so feel free to open the source back up again and play around. There's also another source on the mountain next to it that's already covered up by earth. Just don't get carried away, because it is possible to flood the second totem with all that water. When you're ready to move on, build a bridge to the area with the portal and send the men over. | =================== | | | | The Roar of the Sea | [S3] | | | =================== | This is the first mission where you have to deal with a real danger: cyclical tsunamis. A timer appears in the upper right corner of the screen. When it hits zero, a big wall of water comes along and blows everything away. You'll need the knowledge of Repel Water to keep your villages safe. Capture the first totem and zoom out. Look around the waterfalls for a large rock with a beam of light coming from it. This rock holds the knowledge of Repel Water. Start building bridges to connect your first totem to that rock, and once prompted, send a man over to the rock. The running water keeps trying to wash the earth away, but if you pile enough on there, you can divert the flow. Once the man has reached the rock, he'll copy the knowledge onto a kite and take it back to the village. The village is not safe until that man actually reaches it, so make sure he has a way back. You need to do all this before the timer in the upper right corner reaches zero. Once that happens, the tsunami hits. If your village is unprotected, it will drown. If it is protected, then the knowledge of repel water will allow them to keep danger at bay. Note that repel water works for all water, not just the tsunamis. This village can never drown as long as it has the knowledge. You won't be able to capture the second totem before the first tsunami hits, so don't even bother sending anyone over. They'll just get caught in the wave and die. What you can do is absorb the dirt connecting the repel water rock to the main area. This lets the water that you had diverted previously flow back in its original direction. You now need to build a bridge across the other streams to get over to the second totem. They are stronger and will require a lot more earth, but it's definitely possible. The tsunami wave also doesn't reach this far up, so the earth will be safe from it. Alternatively, you can have your men go around the long way and come up to the totem on the other side. This is a longer route, but the only bodies of water you have to cross aren't moving, so it's a little easier to make bridges. You'll also have to explore this large area anyway, since the portal is in here, probably covered up by water after the first tsunami. After capturing the second totem, make a bridge over to the portal area (if you haven't already). Move all of the water out of there and connect as much of the dirt as possible. If you don't get the vegetation meter to 100% by the time the tsunami comes, the water will wash most of it away and you'll have to work to get the meter back up. Also, it probably won't matter much here, but it's worth mentioning that subsequent totems you capture don't automatically come with any knowledge gained. Your second totem will not have the repel water ability until a guy from your first village comes over to the second one with the knowledge. Make sure that you leave a route open for him. Once the portal is cleared, send your men to it and leave the mission once you've covered the area in vegetation. If it looks like you won't make it before the tsunami hits, press B over the portal to cancel the order and your men will head back to the village. Just wait out the tsunami and then rebuild and continue on to the portal. | =============== | | | | The First Power | [S4] | | | =============== | This mission introduces you to totem powers. Capturing a totem with a power gives you that power, as long as you have a village built around the totem. You'll also encounter lava here. You can use it to form mountains, but be careful, as it will burn vegetation. You probably won't have to worry about this, but when the lava goes downhill and hits the water, it'll solidify. After a while, it'll form a bridge connecting the main volcano to your first totem. Even if you absorb the dirt (and vegetation) around the totem, you're still at risk of being inundated by lava. This takes quite a long time, so it's usually a non-issue, but if you want to goof around after capturing all the totems, take this into consideration. Capture the first totem. A tsunami hits you right off the bat. Your first village is safe, but the second totem will be covered in some water. To stop this from happening, you'll need to use the lava from the two volcanoes here. Scoop it up and lay it down on the wall behind the second totem. When the lava dries, it forms rock. The lava is infinite, so don't worry about using it up. Make sure you've shored the wall up enough, then go capture the second totem. This gives you the power to jellify water. To use this power, press Up on the D-Pad. For 60 seconds, all the water on the map will become solid. You probably won't have time to go for the third totem before the tsunami strikes again, so just wait a bit. After the tsunami hits and the water dies down, send your men to the last totem. You can also send a guy for the repel water rock, although you don't really need it at this point. Still, it can't hurt. Use the jellify water power and absorb the water between the second and third totems. You will expose the riverbed, and the men can cross. You can also use this time to absorb the water around the repel water rock, if you sent a man that way. Once you've captured all the totems, cover the area in vegetation. Steer clear of the volcano, as the lava will set grass on fire. Send your men for the portal and use jellify water to clear the way. | ==================== | | | | The Thousand Sources | [S5] | | | ==================== | You'll be introduced to a new totem power here: Evaporation. You'll also be faced with the dangers of having WAY too many sources on your map. You should notice three sources directly in front of you. There are prickly plants on the other side of these sources, and there's a totem near those plants. First, use earth to build a bridge that blocks the smallest stream coming from the three sources. Then send your men over to the first totem. Note that men cannot cross the prickly plants. After building your first village, the game informs you that you're in a desert. Vegetation cannot grow in the desert without first coming into contact with water. This won't be a problem, as you'll soon find out. There are three plateaus around the first totem. One has a rock on it with a memory, one has a rock with the repel water knowledge, and one has another totem on it. Send men to all three. Do not bother trying to spread vegetation just yet. In fact, if you have to use earth, try to use earth that is near the mouth of the three sources river. There are a ton of sources around here, and uncovering some of them will impede your progress. Capturing the second totem gives you the evaporation power, which basically just dries everything up. This is a great way of getting rid of a lot of water. Now, send some men over to the last totem, the one that is surrounded by prickly plants. You'll need to remove some of them, and in the course, you'll probably uncover sources. Cover them up quickly. One source isn't a big deal, but the water will erode the earth around other sources, and soon you'll have too many. Once you've got all three totems, you can start digging around in the dirt by the first two totems for sources. The prickly plants are covering up at least a couple, so start there. Start dumping water all over the place and you'll have the entire area covered in vegetation in no time. Now take your men to the portal. When they can go no further, use evaporation to eliminate the water and continue to the next mission. | ========= | | | | Wildfires | [S6] | | | ========= | You'll have to deal with fire plants and water plants in this one, as well as a new totem power: put out fire. The fire plants require you constantly keep an eye on your villages. You will also acquire the ability to move your totems. This is a power that becomes invaluable in later levels, so get acquainted with it. You will see the fire plants at the start of the level. They light up every so often, setting any surrounding vegetation on fire. You should also notice some large, quivering plants. These are water plants. When they get next to heat, they release a bunch of water. You can move water plants, after capturing the first totem with the put out fire power, by holding the Left Trigger to uproot them and then pressing the Right Trigger to plant them elsewhere. Put these in key spots to stop a fire from getting to your village. Note that it is possible for these things to eventually wither or succumb to the fire, so be ready to act in case they fail. A better way of stopping these trees is by disconnecting them from any earth/vegetation. Remove the dirt around each tree so that it's only on bare rock. It can't catch anything on fire this way. Do this for every tree you see. You'll still have to keep an eye on them. Earth likes to shift and go downhill, and some of it may wind up on a fire plant. Send your men to the first totem with the put out fire power. Place water plants where you feel they may be necessary, particularly near the top of a hill, so that the water can flow down. There are two nearby fire plants, one on each side of the village. You can remove the dirt around the one by the other totems. To disconnect yourself from the other plant, the one by the sea, remove the dirt at the top of the hill by your first village. There isn't a lot here, and you can simply expose the rock beneath it, disconnecting this area from the area you started in. Now send your men to the jellify water totem and acquire it. At this point, you'll be instructed to move the totem to an area up the hill. After you move it, send a man to the nearby memory rock, and send more men to the next totem with the evaporation power. Next, send men for the final totem. It's surrounded by fire trees on a rocky area that's cut off from the mainland by a pool of water. You'll need to use evaporate to drain this pool. This reveals a path near the bottom of the pool that your men can use to reach the last totem. Capturing this one gives you the ability to move fire trees. If they have been giving you problems, feel free to stack them all on a mountain in the middle of nowhere. Just don't remove the ones stopping all of the water from rushing in, or you'll have a different problem on your hands. Head for the portal once you've gotten 100% vegetation to end this level. | ===== | | | | Waves | [S7] | | | ===== | There are several interesting things happening in this level. For starters, there's a portion of the level that regularly moves up and down. It's filled with water and a totem, so you'll need to work around this. There are also explosive trees now. When they are heated up, they explode, which removes everything around them, even rock. Finally, you'll be introduced to the amplify breath power. There are also water and fire trees here, though the fire trees don't cause nearly as many problem as they did in the last level. For starters, you can move all of them right at the beginning. Second, you're in the desert, so the only way to make vegetation grow is by putting water all over everything. Take the first totem. This gives you the amplify breath power, which basically allows you to absorb more matter for a limited time. By this point you should notice the portion of land moving up and down. The water is coming from some water plants near the mountain that are continually being set off by fire plants. Stick the fire plants away on some rocks to stop this, then use amplify breath and remove all of the water. Use the water to help grow some vegetation. While you're doing this, you can also send some men to take the jellify water totem nearby. Once the area is clear of water, send someone to get the repel water knowledge. The second totem gives you the ability to move explosive trees, which you don't need yet. Once you've cleared the moving area of water, capture the totem inside. Also, send men for the final totem with the put out fire power. There's a pool of water next to the mountain if you need more. You can also pick up a fire plant and move it next to some water plants. Just make sure you don't accidentally flood a village. After getting the vegetation part done, move some explosive trees onto the rock and then move a fire plant next to them so that they blow up. You need to clear a path here so that you can send men through to the portal. | ========== | | | | High Tides | [S8] | | | ========== | This one introduces two new totem powers: engulf all and infinite earth. You'll also want to make the most of totem-moving to get through this quickly. Start by sending some people for the jellify water totem. You'll need to wait for the water to empty out of the middle area before you can build a bridge across. Once they've constructed a village, send someone for the repel water knowledge. By this point, you should see how the tide works. Wait for it to go out again and rebuild the bridge so that your first village gets the repel water knowledge. Now, move your first village onto the land bridge that you made to connect the two villages. Do whatever you have to do to clear the water and build up the land. Do NOT use jellify water if you don't absolutely have to. It'll mess up the cycle of the tides and you'll wind up always having water in the middle, which isn't what you want if you're doing this my way. Of course, there are multiple ways to do this, but the way I've done it requires as little work from the laughably bad A.I. as possible. They just have to walk from Point A to Point B. First, when the water is almost completely drained from the middle area, jellify it. You will need to work very quickly here. Remove water from around the center totem with the infinte earth power so that you can send men to it. Also clear water so that there's a path. Now, while they're moving to the totem, move the jellify water totem as close to the infinite earth totem as you can. Quickly scoop out as much water as possible from the surrounding area. When the jellify water totem is set down, you will lose the jellify water ability, even if it still has time left, which is why you need to clear as much water out as possible. Don't forget to use amplify breath here. What this does, however, is give you a shorter recovery time. Instead of waiting a full 60 seconds to use jellify water again, you only have to wait until the men raise the little huts and complete the village. If you were quick about it, and somewhat lucky, you can use jellify water again before the center village is flooded. Clear the water out and the kite guy will have plenty of time to bring the knowledge of repel water to the center village. Now, clear the water out of the last totem area and build up a wall around it using infinite earth. When the middle area is fairly empty, use jellify water and clear a path for some men to get over to the last totem and take it. If you built the wall high enough (no reason not to), then you won't even need repel water over here. Continue using infinite earth to wall off the middle area and turn the whole thing into vegetation. Keep an eye on the fire plants, though, or just move them to a rocky area. When you're ready, head for the portal. It's on the same island that the jellify water totem was on, but it's only visible in low tide. | ================== | | | | The Tears of Stone | [S9] | | | ================== | This level has you dealing with a volcano and lots of lava. Only one new thing here, and that's the repel lava knowledge. You will need it. Take the first totem. You might want to get rid of the dirt here and dump it off somewhere to the left, just to be safe. Block off the smallest lava stream to your right so you can get over to the repel lava stone. Now, block off the stream to the left of the village and head up and take the put out fire totem. While up here, you can also work your way around until you're behind the large volcano crater. You'll find a memory stone here. Wait until this totem has the repel lava knowledge (just in case), then use explosive trees to re-open the stream. Now block the other stream off, so you can get to the jellify water totem. You will need to wait until after the main volcano goes off and the area is cleared of lava before you go. After acquiring that, go get the repel water rock. You will need this, so make sure all of your totems get it before you capture the last totem. There's a source in the lake next to the final totem that you can bury. Clear the water out and send some men in once all your other totems have repel water. At this point, sources start popping up and it will start raining. You might have to use jellify water here to keep your most recently acquired totem from being flooded. After that, the volcano and the rain/sources kind of battle it out for control of the land. Make your way to the portal to end this. Getting 100% vegetation shouldn't be hard, as long as you keep dirt away from the lava. This is a bit difficult, since the volcano is made up of earth. Use the put out fire power everytime the volcano erupts to keep it in check. | ================ | | | | The Raging Earth | [S10] | | | ================ | This mission puts you up against volcanoes and rising waters. You'll need to use lava to block off problem areas, otherwise your men will constantly be swept away by one thing or another. Capture the amplify breath totem ahead of you. There's a rock "wall" to the left of the totem, seperating it from the lava flows. The wall isn't quite high enough, however, so use lava to build it up a bit. It helps if you build the wall up quite a ways down, so that the lava won't spill out too close to your totem. Try to make it so that the lava flows dump out near the bottom of the area. The first volcano erupts rather quickly, so you'll immediately know if your wall is working. Once your first totem is safe, find the large pool of water near the top of the map. It makes several streams. Using lava, build up some rock to cut off the streams so that water is only pouring out of the far right side of the pool. The far right stream also forks further down, so use lava to block off the left path there. You should wind up with one stream of water following the side of the map. This clears the path for your people to capture the jellify water totem. You should also send a man for the repel lava stone and the memory stone that's closer to the bottom. Now you need to work with the volcanoes. You should notice two major cones on the left side. You need to place explosive trees on top of the volcanoes and on the backside. This will cause the lava to flow down the backside, away from the main path. There's also another lava flow that pops up when the tallest volcano erupts. It comes out of the bottom. You can use explosive trees to divert this flow into the pool of water just above your first totem. After you've taken care of most of the lava, send a man to capture the totem at the bottom of the area. It's the one that gives you the engulf all power. It shouldn't take that long for the repel lava kite to make its way down there, but you can wall it off anyway if you want. Once you've got all lava flowing elsewhere, you can also go for the infinite earth totem. You'll need plenty of earth to get them over there. Once they've got it, send someone down for the repel water stone below, and keep an eye on the vegetation to make sure it doesn't catch on fire. You can also now use the infinite earth power to cover the area in vegetation. Once that's done, use infinite earth to raise the portal, which is in the middle of the pool of water near the top of the map, and send your guys to it. | ========= | | | | Emergence | [S11] | | | ========= | There isn't much new here, though the execution is different. You'll need to build a lot of bridges and platforms to get your people where they need to go. Send your guys for the amplify breath totem. You'll first have to use lava to distance the totem from the surrounding water in order to send the men for it. Use earth and/or lava to build a bridge over there. Also, use earth to build a bridge to the repel water knowledge, which is next to your start location. After capturing the totem, use lots of earth and amplify breath to raise the far off infinite earth totem, and send your men that way. Next, raise the nearby jellify water totem. There's also a repel lava stone next to it that you can raise up out of the water, though you might never need it. Doesn't hurt to have it though. You might have to use jellify water to stop the tsunami from hitting your totems before they get the repel water knowledge. Once everything's set, you can build up the portal and send your men to it. Use infinite earth to quickly get 100% vegetation before the next tsunami hits. Also don't forget to nab the memory stone near your first totem. If you're quick about doing this mission, you shouldn't have to worry about the lava reaching any of your totems. | ========= | | | | Movements | [S12] | | | ========= | The key to surviving this mission is knowing what comes next. You'll be dealing with a ton of lava and rain here, so don't mess around. Ignore the nearest totem. There's really no way to take it, as lava and water will soon be bearing down on it. Instead, head over to the jellify water totem and grab that one. While it's being captured, the volcano will go off and it'll start raining. Use the lava to build a wall around the rim of the volcano, so that all the lava starts flowing away from all of the totems. Make sure you build this wall as close to the rim as possible. Now, you need to move your first totem a little bit closer to the center of the volcano. When moving it, note the part nearby where the water kind of juts into the land. There's a small crater here. Stay away from this, as it'll soon become a big crater. While it's being moved, send someone for the evaporate totem and send a man for the repel lava knowledge. You will need it. You'll probably have to wait until after the next flood to capture the amplify ability totem. Take it when you get the chance and move it as close to the jellify water totem as you can. You'll need to be working overtime to make sure that you've walled the area off from lava. You'll also have to make sure that there's no vegetation around your villages, and you need to clear any lava that gets to them if they don't have the repel lava knowledge yet. Also, you'll constantly have to keep your villages clear of water. Around the point where you capture the amplify ability totem, lava will start pouring in from the outside of the map. Almost the entire volcano will be engulfed in lava at one point, so make sure your villages have repel lava. Use the lava to build a bridge over to the final totem, the one that grants you access to infinite earth. You'll need to build a wall around this totem to keep the lava out, but you'll also need to build the totem itself up a bit because it'll flood again a couple more times, and having the totem in a giant pit isn't good. While you've got infinite earth, build your other totems up too, so you don't have to worry about water anymore. After quite a while, the lava will eventually die down, and so will the rain. At this point, you can capture any villages you couldn't get or lost before. Eventually the lava recedes enough for you to start using infinite earth to fill the area with vegetation. I'm not sure if the lull in activity lasts forever, but it lasted more than long enough for me to get 100% vegetation. Enter the portal to end this frustrating level. | ======= | | | | Origins | [S13] | | | ======= | This is as close to a sandbox level as you're going to get in this game. You can lose this mission, but it'll be by your own hand if you do. You are given true god powers in this. Press A on the earth to erect a totem, then press A again to send your men to it. This gives you the breath of earth power, which lets you create earth from nothing. Press Left on the D-Pad to activate this power. The Left Trigger erases earth and the Right Trigger creates. Press Y to make a small hill come out of the water. Hold Y to make a huge mountain of earth come up. Press B to make a crater, and hold B to make a big crater. Once you've got a nice stable piece of land far enough from your original totem, press A on it to place the next totem, and send your men to it. Once they capture it, you get the breath of lava power. Press Up on the D-Pad to activate this power. Pressing the Right Trigger creates lava, Left Trigger erases it. Press Y to make a little volcano, hold Y to make a big volcano. Pressing B eliminates the lava source, but you have to be hovering right over it to eliminate it. Holding B will cause whatever you're hovering over to sink. A lot. Make your next totem to get the breath of water. Press Right on the D-Pad to activate this power. Press the Right Trigger to create water, Left Trigger to erase it. Press Y to make a source, and hold Y to create a tsunami. This can wipe your villages out, so be careful. Press B to eliminate a source, and hold B to use the power of evaporation. Your next totem gives you the breath of plants. Press Down on the D-Pad to activate it. Right Trigger creates vegetation, Left Trigger erases it. Pressing the Y button gives you either a fire tree, a water tree, or an explosive tree. Keep pressing it to cycle through them. Holding the Y button causes a large area to be immediately covered in vegetation. Press B to erase trees, and hold B to erase vegetation from a large area. After a while, or after you build enough land, I'm not sure which, a cutscene appears. After this, you can hold A to create a portal. Make it close to one of your totems, because after you create it, the land will start to collapse. You'll need to build up earth to get your people to the portal. Once they've arrived, press A to finish the game. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ || || || Challenge Mode || [C0] || || +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ First off, let me explain bonus time. Bonus time is simply how much time elapses from when you last use a power to the end of the challenge. In each challenge, you're going to want to do your god stuff as quickly as possible, then sit there for as long as you can while the rest of the mission plays out. Bonus time is more important on some challenges than others, if you're going for a fast time, that is. I've tried to list the strategy that got me the fastest possible time for each challenge. However, some of my fastest times aren't so fast. If you have any tips/tricks/strategies, send them to me, and I'll post them in this guide and credit you for it. | ===== | | | | Fire! | [C1] | | | ===== | This is incredibly simple. All you need to do here is scoop up some water and dump it on the large fire and the smaller fire by the volcano. There are plenty of ways to do this, but this is how I did my fastest run: scoop up water as you move towards the fire. Bypass the main fire and put some water on the small fire, then dart back up to the top of the main fire and release what's left of the water you're carrying. | =================== | | | | Running in the Rain | [C2] | | | =================== | Another simple challenge. You need to send your men to the far totem. Along the way, you'll have to scoop up water that appears in the grooves on the slope. Just keep holding the Left Trigger near the top of the groove your men are passing through. The middle grooves produce more water, so you'll need to absorb multiple times to clear the path. Don't let your men get hit by any water! Even if they don't get washed away, the men that are hit will lag behind the men that aren't hit, and you'll wind up having to watch after two groups of people instead of one. | ======== | | | | Bail Out | [C3] | | | ======== | Arguably even easier than the first two challenges. Send a man for the repel water knowledge, and then start scooping the water out while he's on his way. That's it. On your last scoop, make sure you don't let it go. It'll save you a small amount of time since releasing matter counts as using a god power, whereas holding onto matter doesn't. | ============ | | | | The Big Wave | [C4] | | | ============ | Send a man for the repel water knowledge. While he's on his way, absorb the earth with the spiky vegetation in between your first totem and the far totem. Now dump that earth in a line on the water seperating your first totem from the next closest totem. You'll have to do this again. When you're finished, you should've cleared a decent path through the spiky vegetation, and you should have a path across the pool of water. When your first totem learns repel water, two men will be sent out to the other totems. When they reach the totems, the challenge is complete. | ========= | | | | Canyoning | [C5] | | | ========= | The man is already going for the repel water knowledge. Scoop up some water while he's on his way and wait. After he gets the knowledge, he'll have to take it back to his village. Unfortunately, the path down takes too long to traverse, so you'll need to dump your water on him so that he goes sliding down the side of the mountain. Don't worry, he'll be ok. And he can swim. You shouldn't have to do anything after this. He'll eventually swim out of the pool at the bottom and make it back to his village. | ========== | | | | Pump It Up | [C6] | | | ========== | You need to get a big ball of dirt and the dump the entire thing, all at once into a pool of water. The village at the bottom of the pit has repel water. Ideally, you'll want to dump around two balls of earth into each water container. The water will flow downhill and form a barrier around the village. You can get away with putting less earth into the water containers, but that's because this challenge is subject to a large matter of luck. The wild nature of fire means that you can do everything perfectly and a spark will still pop up somewhere, or you can half-ass it and manage to put the fire out completely. | ======== | | | | Xuenylom | [C7] | | | ======== | This challenge requires you to read the in-challenge description that pops up before you actually start the challenge. It says, "Save all three villages on the peninsula." You do not have to save the village that you start the challenge looking at. In fact, you need to destroy it. Go and pick up the smallest amount of lava you can, and then dump it on the village. The ensuing fire will take care of the rest. You need this village destroyed because it has the repel water knowledge. It will hold back that incoming stream of water, and you need that water to put out the fire. Your final time should be pretty short, since that's all you have to do. For some reason, vegetation likes to grow back after it's burned, particularly near the lava flow, which means it can catch on fire again. There's not much you can do about this without ruining your time. If you try to form a wall with the lava, you'll just advance the fire, which means the water won't get there in time to stop it. | ========== | | | | Aquasplash | [C8] | | | ========== | Send a man for the repel water knowledge. You'll have to clear water out of the three grooves so that the man can pass back and forth. You can try to postpone the inevitable by constantly scooping water out of the big pool, but it'll start spilling over sooner or later. That's all there is to this challenge. | ========= | | | | Waterfall | [C9] | | | ========= | This is subject to a lot of luck. What you need to do is grab a ball of water and pour it on the guy coming from the top village. He'll ride the water down to the bottom and then take the repel water knowledge to the bottom village. Ideally, you'd use one ball of water, which would then take him close to the bottom, but not into the pool of water that accumulates. Of course, in reality, you might have to use multiple balls of water, and he'll probably wind up swimming back onto land. Just keep trying until you get a good time. | ============== | | | | Guardian Angel | [C10] | | | ============== | The easiest challenge in the game, once you know what to do. You simply have to move the upper totem onto the patch of earth to the left. It has repel lava, so once your men get it set up, it'll stop the flow of lava from hitting the bottom village. The challenge ends when the guy with the knowledge makes it to the bottom village. When placing the totem, make sure it's close to the middle, otherwise lava will sneak around it and get your bottom totem. | ========== | | | | Explosions | [C11] | | | ========== | You need to stop the lava from reaching the village before the man with the repel lava knowledge reaches it. You'll need to place two explosive trees on the wall on the right side to divert the flow of lava as it comes down the hill. If you look on the right wall you should see a prime spot near the top, where the wall is pretty low. Stick two trees right there and if you do it right, the entire flow will go into the water. | ========= | | | | Sacrifice | [C12] | | | ========= | This is officially where the challenges start becoming a pain in the ass. There are a couple of tips that can help you out though. First, when you go to absorb earth, don't move your cursor all over the place. Leave it in one spot and hold the Left Trigger. This will cause you to suck up some earth that's underwater as well. Second, when laying earth down, hold the Right Trigger and move quickly in a line where you want your path to be. If done properly, you'll wind up with a path that's just tall enough for you men to cross. You might have to wait for the water to stop moving for the path to become visible. Also, keep an eye out for the areas underwater where you can actually place earth. This is especially important when laying down a path for your men to get from the second totem to the repel water knowledge. If you try to place earth in deep water, it'll just disappear. Alright, first off, send your men to the second totem. Suck up earth directly in the center of your first totem and start laying it down. Suck up more earth from one of the sides of the first totem. The totem will flood, but as long as most of your huts are above water, you'll be fine. After the men capture the second totem, you can use the rest of the earth around the first village to help build a path connecting the second totem to the repel water knowledge. Your first village will drown, but that's supposed to happen. Send a man for
the repel water knowledge and continue building land over there. You may have
to erase part of your path to get enough earth. The concept is simple, but the
execution is tedious and difficult.

Send a man for the repel lava knowledge. Just after he crosses from the earth
to rock, jellify the water and start scooping it out to form a path. Make sure
you scoop out a large section of water from the first dip. The source is still
pouring in, and the water will slowly expand and cover the ground here. Once
the path is clear, do nothing else. If you've done it right, he'll be able to
get the knowledge and exit the pool just as the water returns to its normal
state.

The last pit on the left side has water in it. You need to use this water to
extinguish the fire. I've tried several times to drop the water directly in
the middle, so that it takes care of both sides at once, but I haven't been
successful. Your best bet is to simply do one side at a time. Also, dropping
the entire ball of water at the top usually isn't enough to cut it, so you
might be better off releasing it little by little over the fire.

This is a pretty simple concept. Send your man for the repel water knowledge,
and don't forget to make a bridge for him to cross. Go back to the village.
You should see the water pouring into a series of pools. There are two pools
that empty out into your village. Block off the first one using earth. Now
build your village up with earth. Make sure you build up the land to the
right of it as well, so your guy can make it back with repel water. If you do
this right, the water will pour out of the smaller pool and go around your
village to the left, emptying out into the sea at the bottom. Things will
probably get a lot hairier when the timer reaches zero, but your man should be
able to get the knowledge back in time.

Don't send your men for the next totem yet. Instead, go to the nearest volcano
and grab a bunch of lava. You need to lay down a quick and shallow path from
the first island to the totem island. Don't stop or take your time or do
anything like that. Simply draw a line with the lava. Also, draw the line so
that it comes off of the first island and arcs away from the first volcano a
bit. You need to do this because the earth starts sinking. When you use lava
on sand, the lava goes all the way to the bottom. The earth will sink, but the
line you've drawn will remain, and you'll have a very thin rock bridge
connecting your beginning island to the totem island.

                               | ============= |

You'll need to save both villages from two tsunamis here. Use amplify breath
and infinite earth to raise one village. Wait for both to recharge, then
raise the next village. Make sure you raise the villages evenly. If you just
put a bunch of dirt under the totem, you'll destroy the village. Each village
only needs to be raised once to avoid both tsunamis.

                                   | ===== |

The concept is, once again, simple. The execution can be tricky though. You
need to use explosive trees to connect both of the water trees. The idea is
that when the fire reaches an explosive tree, it'll set off all the others off
in a chain reaction. Not only will this create a huge gash in the earth, but
it'll also set off the water plants, which should then fill that gash with
water. Here's what worked best for me: have explosive trees going diagonally
from each water tree, towards the middle and towards the village. The middle
area should be two short horizontal lines of explosive trees. Also, place a
couple of trees out ahead of the explosive plants by the water trees, so that
the whole thing is triggered before the fire actually gets there. Hopefully,
by the time the fire reaches your ditch, it'll be a moat. It's easy to mess up
and have a piece of earth that stops your water, so you might be doing this a
few times. You don't have to cram all of the explosive trees side by side to
get them to blow the next one up. As long as each tree is in the blast radius
of the next one, you'll be fine.

                                 | ========= |
                                 | |
                                 | Countdown | [C19]

                                 | ========= |

You'll need to protect both villages from water coming from both sides.
Immediately use amplify breath and infinite earth to raise both villages at
the same time. Another large force of water comes in after several seconds, but
if you do it right, you'll only have to use amplify breath and infinite earth
one time.

This will probably test your patience with the A.I. in this game. The game
doesn't state it, but you can (and have to) move the totem. You need to get it
from where it's at over to the large crater on the other side of the tall rock.
To do this, use amplify breath to pick up sand from all around (but not from
the crater area, of course), and dump it so that you've got a bridge
connecting your totem with the crater area. This is the hardest part, simply
because your men do not want to climb anything. You're going to have to
constantly raise the area up so that they can get over to the crater. Once
they have finally moved the totem to the crater, make two lines in the boundary
earth so that water comes rushing in. The place where your totem started at
will soon become a volcano, and the lava can still reach you and set your
village on fire if it's not surrounded by water.

You need to use explosive trees to open up one of the pools, releasing the
water and saving the village from fire. The best way to do this is to blow
open a hole in the pool that's far from the village. You need to place an
explosive tree at the top of the rim of the pool. Make sure it's on the side
of the hill with the village, since you want the water to run down and protect
the village. Place another explosive tree slightly below the first, so that
the water is more inclined to rush downwards. Place one final tree next to the
previous two, but closer to the fire, so that they're all triggered more
quickly. You should wind up with the water rushing out just in time to stop
the fire.

This one functions like Collapse. You need to use the lava to draw a line
around the village. This will form a wall that protects it from water after
all the earth sinks. Avoid sinkholes and avoid the grass, or you'll catch
your village on fire.

At the beginning, an island comes up out of the water next to the one your
totem is on. You need to bridge the two islands and have your men move the
totem to the next island. When the timer reaches zero, your first island will
sink back into the water and another island will come up. This cycle continues
for a while. You just need to keep bridging the islands with earth and moving
the totem as fast as you can.

One village has the repel water knowledge and one village has the repel lava
knowledge. They need to share this with each other, so you need to grab some
lava and form bridges over the water. The tricky part about this is that the
men are very vulnerable to lava. You can easily kill them by hitting them with
it, so zoom in and apply carefully. Don't forget to set the spiky vegetation
on fire as well. You need to do this somewhat quickly, because the ground will
shake when the volcano erupts, and this will destroy parts of your bridges.
Rebuild them to allow the men to continue to cross.

What you need to do here is wall off the "pool" with the repel water stone in
it, and then drain the water out. To wall it off, use the same technique used
in the Sacrifice challenge. Grab a bunch of earth, zoom in, and just draw a
line around the pool. The earth will be just tall enough to keep out the sea.
When that's done, use engulf all to clear the pool, then send your guy down.
Don't send your guy down there until the pool is clear, otherwise he'll try to
wander around on the wall you've just created and you'll waste time.

You'll have plenty to do in this challenge. First, note that you get the power
of earth and vegetation. When you pick up a ball of earth, the grass comes
with it. Use amplify breath to absorb earth and dump it so that the patch of
grass being set on fire is connected to the explosive trees on the rim of the
pool. Make sure you keep the fire going. Now you can block off the source with
earth and create a path over to the repel water stone. Send your guy over
there. A path opens up once the water drains out, so don't worry about trying
to pile earth so that he can get over the top of the rim. Raise the repel
water stone using earth and let the challenge play out.

A fire will set off all of the water plants above your village, drowning it.
I'm sure there's probably some clever way of doing this, but if you want the
fastest time, simply use amplify breath to manually extinguish the fire. It
sounds wrong, but it works.

Move towards the center back of the huge pool of water and look around for the
source. Once you've found it, grab some lava and cover it up. Now use more
lava to build up a bridge for your men to cross over to the other side. The
actual rock won't allow your men to cross, but it will act as a foundation.
Send your men to the totem on the other side, and begin dumping as much earth
as possible on the rock you've just created. The sand will accumulate and the
men will be able to get over to the other side. The water will also stop
rushing over the top since you've closed off the source.

You'll have to work overtime to get this one to play out properly. You may
notice a fire plant on some land that's not connected to your main totem area.
It will begin to set the vegetation on fire. You must let this fire make it all
the way to your main totem area. First, scoop up some water and dump it all at
once on the water trees that are in the way of the fire. That will set them
off, so they won't stop the fire when it comes. Now find the other set of
water trees, the ones that are in a ditch of sorts, and do the same thing here.
You'll need to scoop the water out of this ditch though, and there's a lot, so
hurry up. Once the fire gets about halfway through the hill with the first set
of water trees, use the jellify water power and start clearing the water
between that hill and the next piece of land. The vegetation will grow on the
land below the water and the fire will be able to continue on. Continue
scooping water out of the ditch whenever you get time and then turn off the
jellify water power when the fire has made it over to the other side.

You should be able to scoop all of the water out of the ditch by the time the
fire gets there. You may have to deal with a couple of water plants that are
left over, but it's no big deal. Use jellify water and scoop the water out of
the way so that the fire can continue on to the main land with your totem on
it. You'll want the fire to get to the explosive trees on the rock surrounding
the repel lava stone. However, you also want the fire to not reach your totem,
so while you're clearing the way for the fire, lay down some jellified water
in lines that stop the fire from spreading beyond the explosive tree area.
After the explosive trees go off, turn off jellified water to quench all of
the fire and send a man for the knowledge.

This is difficult in almost every respect. You won't know what's coming until
it's already there, it takes a while to finish the challenge, and half the
time you can't finish it (or you can't finish with a decent time) because the
A.I. likes to shaft you. You will need patience for this.

To start, move the first totem further up the hill, near the repel water
knowledge. While it's being moved, use infinite earth to raise the village.
The land will shift downwards, and water will come rushing at it. You need to
keep this village alive until they can relocate the totem. When they've put it
down, have the men go for the repel water and repel lava stones, and have some
people go for the second totem. Use infinite earth to build up a wall on the
edge of the cliff in the area with the repel lava stone and the second totem.
This entire thing will start falling, so you need to keep the water out. The
moment your men have captured the second totem, send people for the third
totem on top of the plateau. As soon as possible, have your men move the
second totem onto the patch of land at the bottom of the plateau. You'll need
to fill in the gap with earth to get them all across. While you're doing all of
that, feel free to shore up your makeshift walls with more earth. It can't
hurt. After sending men for the third totem and moving the second totem, you
can stop. Make sure the second totem has both repel lava and repel water, which
it should by now. Your men will soon capture the third totem and then the
knowledge will make its way up there. A tsunami comes along, and then the
entire island starts to sink. Once all totems have repel water and lava
knowledge, the game ends.
