***************************************************************** ****Alchemy/Herbalism Guide For The Burning Crusade (300-375)**** *************Based on World of Warcraft V.2.0.8.6403************* *************Guide Version 1.0 Written on 02/22/2007************* ***************************************************************** ******************** ****Introduction**** ******************** Now that The Burning Crusade has come, I am here to offer a chance to give alot of helpful information as well as to answer any possible questions that you might have. I will do this in the form of a question/answer style to make it easier to read and comprehend in case you are confused about any of the new Alchemy/Herbalism items. The section about herbalism is less informative simple because Herbalism is far less confusing than Alchemy. So without further ado... ************************** ****Alchemy Questions:**** ************************** Q: For starters, what level must I be to learn Grandmaster Alchemy? A: Level 50 and you need to have Alchemy at 300. Q: Wait a second. I thought you had to be level 58 to go get in to Outland. How can you learn GM Alchemy before level 58? A: Mages get the ability to open a portal to Shattrath and Warlocks can summon a lower level to Outland. The level requirement is only for actually using The Dark Portal. Q: Some of my recipes say they require an Alchemy Lab. Do I have to go to Scholomance or Stratholme or is there an easier one to get to? A: Thankfully Blizzard put one in Shattrath (Terrokar Forest). It is in a tower in the northern section of town. To reach you, you must start off in the Lower City and go up some ramps. If you can't find it, ask a guard where it is. He will kindly point it out on your city map. Q: So what new recipes can I get that are not trainer taught and what skill level do I need to learn them? How does that work? A: Well, for one thing, its nothing like how any profession can specialize. Instead of getting any new recipes, we simple get a chance of getting a bonus item of whatever type you are making. For example, if you specialize in potions and you made a Ironshield Potion, there would be a chance that an extra would get made and not cost any extra materials. The three types of Specializations are Potions, Elixers, and Transmutes. Q: So how do I go about getting specialized? A: Before I answer that, I suggest you ask yourself this question "What do I make the most and what would benefit me the most?" If you make and use potions alot, then I might suggest going in to that. If you like to use elixers alot to buff yourself or to hand out to others to buff themselves, then elixers would be an even better choice. If you find that you do alot of transmutes for yourself, friends, guild mates, or even for a profit, this might be the best choice of all. To answer your question, you first must meet two requirements. Your Alchemy skill needs to be 375 and your level must be at least 68. Master of Potions - Allows an Alchemist to sometimes create an additional potion when brewing high level potions Starts with Quest from Lauranna Thar'well at Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh Quest sends you to The Botanica in Tempest Keep to retrieve The Botanist's Field Guide from High Botanist Freywenn Also requires the Following: - 5 Super Healing Potions - 5 Super Mana Potions - 5 Major Dreamless Sleep Potions Master of Elixirs - Allows an Alchemist to sometimes create an additional elixir when brewing high level elixirs Starts with Quest from Lorokeem (Grand Master Alchemist) in Lower City Shattrath Quest sends you to Caverns of Time to collect 10 Essences of Infinity from Rift Lords and Rift Keepers. Also requires the Following: - 5 Elixir of Major Defense - 5 Elixir of Mastery - 5 Elixir of Major Agility Master of Transmutation - Allows an Alchemist to sometimes to get greater results when transmuting materials Starts with Quest from Zarehvi at The Stormspire in Netherstorm Quest asks only for the following: - 4 Primal Might Q: I heard that Alchemy got a new twist, that we can randomly learn recipes. Is this true? A: Yes but don't expect it. The chances of it happening are like 0.0001%. It was designed to give an alchemist a chance to possibly have a recipe that someone else might not have. Blizzard did not intend for this to be something that people should expect to ever see happen (discover new recipe) but rather it's a nice surprise when it does happen. Given the nature of what alchemist truly were as tinkerers in a way, it is only fitting that accidents happen and we can learn new things without meaning to. Q: So what are these randomly discovered recipes? A: The recipes below are the ones we can randomly discover. -Flask of Mighty Restoration -Transmute Primal Life to Primal Earth -Flask of Fortification -Flask of Arcane Fortification -Flask of Shadow Fortification -Flask of Relentless Assault -Transmute Primal Earth to Primal Life -Flask of Relentless Assault **************************** ****Herbalism Questions:**** **************************** Q: What is Mana Thistle? A: Mana Thistle is a new herb that can only be obtained in areas that require flight form or a flying mount to reach. It is used in the new major protection potions. Q: Where can I find Fel Lotus and what is it used for? A: Fel Lotus is simple the Black Lotus of Outland. it is used in the new Flasks whose recipes can only be randomly discovered (see above list for what recipes can randomly be discovered). Fel Lotus is also not something that will ever be found openly on the ground. It is randomly found with other herbs in Outland, not unlike how Swiftthistle can be found with some herbs on Azeroth. Q: What is a Mote of Life/Mana and why am I finding it with my herbs? A: Consider it a bonus for your profession. Miners often can find Motes of Earth when they mine Ores. From what I have seen, Motes of Life can be found with almost any herb in Outland. I do know that when you pick Mana Thistle, you can find Motes of Mana instead. Q: I was in Zangarmarsh and when I killed one of the giants in The Spawning Glen, it looked like I could skin it using Herbalism. Was I just seeing things or was this correct? A: It is true. You can skin certain things that might seem plant like in nature. The Spawning Glen, The Dead Mire, and Underbog are a few spots I know of for certain that have these type of creatures. You can often find various herbs or just find various mushrooms or even Unidentified Plant Parts which are used for a quest in Cenarion Refuge that is repeatable (until you reach Honored). Though it requires herbalism to skin these things, you will not earn any skill points from doing so. Q: Why is Ancient Lichen so hard to find? A: Blizzard made it one of those herbs that appear solely in instances. The only other way to get Ancient Lichen is to skin things mentioned in the answer above. Also note that Netherbloom can only be found in Netherstorm and The Botanica. Nightmare Vine can only be found in Shadowmoon Valley. Q: I just found a Flame Cap but I have never seen it listed on any recipe. What's the deal with it? A: It is just a nice little bonus we can find laying around on the ground from time to time. If you really want, give it to a mage (who chose fire as their talent) or give it to a warlock. They will really thank you for it. Q: Woah, an herb I just picked gave me a buff/debuff. How come? A: I think Blizzard wanted to add to the fun of being an Herbalist by adding a buff to Dreaming Glory (Gain 30 health every 5 seconds for 30 mins. On the flip side, if you pick Netherbloom, it can debuff you or buff you. When it does, it will either plus or minus 50 to a single stat and last for 15 minutes. Nightmare Vine places a dot (damage over time spell) on you that can hurt you (100 dmg per second for 10 seconds). Mana Thistle, when picked, will restore mana to you. The amount is random. ************************** ****Special Thanks To:**** ************************** Allakhazam (http://wow.allakhazam.com/) - Your database has always been the most helpful, even back when I played Everquest.
