AUTHOR'S NOTE |_____ \ | _______________________________ | / \ |/ | | \| / / \ | | / \ /______/ \______\ At the begging there was a White Magic and Summon FAQ which was rejected. I asked the FAQ Contributors and I was told that maybe I should split the guides into 2 separate guides. That did seem like the reason it was rejected. So this is the Summon FAQ by itself. Welcome to the Summon FAQ. An FAQ designed to give you all the info you need to know when it comes to the summons of Final Fantasy IX. Thank for choosing this guide to read. -Gold Mage (Thomas Hunt) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________________________________ / \ _____| 2. SUMMONS IN-DEPTH |_____ \ | _______________________________ | / \ |/ | | \| / / \ | | / \ /______/ \______\ This section will tell you all the information you will need to know about the Summons of Final Fantasy IX. Their element, who to learn them and how to acquire them in the game. So read on to read about the info of the Eidolons. ~~~~~~~~~ ~~ ARK ~~ ~~~~~~~~~ Ark is the bringer of Darkness in this game. You will meet Ark for the first time as a boss and then you will acquire him very later in the game. He appears to be in the shape of a boat but as he transforms into a huge machine of death, you will now know why it took so long to get him. He flies from the Red Moon and transforms when he locks-on to the enemy. Then he fires multiple lasers that explode on impact. Then he uses his final beam, which causes a massive explosion so big it can be seen from space. Attack: Eternal Darkness Element: Shadow MP: 80 Learn from: Pumice Character: Dagger How to get: To get Ark you will need 2 Pumice Pieces. Then you will need to find and defeat Hades at Memoria so he will Synth them together to make a Pumice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ ATOMOS ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Atomos is a huge Summon with a mouth big enough to eat a city. He charges his energy within his mouth and then shoots it at the enemy. The energy engulfs the enemy and implodes with it inside. Atomos is a great Summon to use. Attack: G-Force 199 Element: Shadow MP: 38 Learn from: Amethyst Character: Dagger How to get: You will get your first Amethyst from Doctor Tot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ BAHUMUT ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bahumut is the King of Dragons. He is my personal favorite out o all the Eidolons within Final Fantasy IX. When you Summon him he flies at a tremendous speed from the sky and flies past the enemy making a gale almost knocking them over. Then he flies up and charges his attack then fires it down onto the enemy from above causing a huge explosion. Attack: Mega Flare Element: Non-Elemental MP: 56 Learn from: Garnet Character: Dagger How to get: You will get the Garnet after you go back to Alexandra on the third disk, I can't tell you much more without spoiling the story. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ CARBUNCLE ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This cute little green Summon will cast a protective spell on your whole party depending on what you have equipped. Once you have learned the Carbuncle from a Ruby then equip a new Add-On. Then when you summon Carbuncle he will use a new type of attack. Read the following table to see the new types of attacks and the Add-On you need to equip to use them. But you will need to keep the Add-On equipped while you are attacking in battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Diamond | "Diamond Light" casts Vanish on all party members | | Emerald | "Emerald Light" casts Haste on all party members | | Moonstone | "Pearl Light" casts Protect on all party members | | Anything else | "Ruby Light" casts Reflect on all party members | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attack: Ruby Light, Element: Non-Elemental MP: 24 Learn from: Ruby Character: Eiko How to get: When you first go to the Iifa Tree you get the Ruby from the invisible wall. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ FENRIR ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fenrir is an evil wolf from the underworld. With a howl he summons a great big monster that punches your enemy so hard to fly into the sky. There is also another attack that Fenrir can do which is called "Millennial Decay 1000 Year Gust" which does Wind damage to all enemies. Read the table below for the item. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Maiden Prayer | "Millennial Decay 1000 Year Gust" does Wind damage | | Anything else | "Terrestrial Rage" does Earth damage | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attack: Terrestrial Rage Element: Earth/Wind MP: 30 Learn from: Sapphire Character: Eiko How to get: When you get Eiko she will already have the Sapphire equipped to her. ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ IFRIT ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ This demon will dig its way out of the earth and then summon up the dark flames of hell and hurl them at the enemies. Attack: Flames of Hell Element: Fire MP: 26 Learn from: Topaz Character: Dagger How to get: You will get your first Amethyst from Doctor Tot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ LEVIATHAN ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Leviathan was a huge serpent that lived deep within the ocean in Hebrew mythology. And there was no man-made weapon that could pierce its scales. But the only weapon that could was a weapon forged by God. In Final Fantasy IX when you summon Leviathan he will appear in the ocean and then fly over the enemies and cause a massive tidal wave that slaps the enemy in the face. Attack: Tsunami Element: Water MP: 42 Learn from: Aquamarine Character: Dagger How to get: You will get your first Aquamarine at the Iifa Tree. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ MEDEEN ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Medeen is one of the strongest, if not, the strongest Eidolon out of them all. She summons up a huge globe of Holy Magic and pushes the enemy into it causeing a huge explosion. Attack: Terra Homing Element: Holy MP: 120 Learn from: Ribbon Character: Eiko How to get: You will get your first Ribbon when you complete Mt. Gulug. ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ ODIN ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ Odin is a great Summon to have. Has when he comes down on his horse he uses his lance and cut the enemy in half. This will kill the enemy instantly. Problem is it won't kill bosses, so don't get your hopes up. And also, there is a chance that the attack will fail and miss the enemy. But there is another solution. If Zantetsuken doesn't work, you can learn an ability that will make Odin to draw his sword and slash the enemy, causing damage. To learn the ability Odin's Sword just equip the item, learn it then have enough ability stone to equip Odin's Sword. Attack: Zantetsuken Element: Non-elemental MP: 28 Learn from: Dark Matter Character: Dagger How to get: Get your first Dark Matter from the Treno Auction House. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ PHOENIX ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Phoenix is a huge rainbow bird that is born from the top of a tree then it lives for 500 hundred years. Then it makes a nest and burns itself alive when its ashes form a new egg and a new Phoenix arises. In Final Fantasy IX Phoenix will engulf the enemies in a huge wave of flame then he revives al the KOed members of your party. Attack: Rebirth Flame Element: Fire MP: 42 Learn from: Phoenix Pinion Character: Eiko How to get: You can get Phoenix Pinions all over the game, just save one when you won't to learn Phoenix. ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ RAMUH ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ Ramuh will appear from the clouds and throw down his staff, which will plunge into the earth in front of the enemy. The staff acts as a lightning rod and a huge lightning bolt hits the staff, which causes an electric explosion. Attack: Judgment Bolt Element: Thunder MP: 22 Learn from: Peridot Character: Dagger How to get: When you have collected all 5 parts of the stories then tell them to him in order he will become your first Eidolon. ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ SHIVA ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ Shiva appears and then throws some small icicles into the ground below the enemy and then huge pillars of ice arise and then shatter on the enemy, doing lots of damage. Attack: Diamond Dust Element: Ice MP: 24 Learn from: Opal Character: Dagger How to get: You will get your first Amethyst from Doctor Tot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________________________________ / \ _____| 3. SUMMON INFO/FACTS |_____ \ | _______________________________ | / \ |/ | | \| / / \ | | / \ /______/ \______\ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ SUMMON INFO ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Power Up Summons ---------------- Did you know that you could power up the strength of you Eidolons? Well, you can. And here is how to do it. All you have to do is not sell any of the gems that are used to learn an Eidolon. So if you have 99 Aquamarine, Leviathan will do a lot more damage than if you had 5 Aquamarine. So when you get gems from fighting monsters or picking up around Gaia, don't sell them because your Eidolons can do more damage. The Boost Ability ----------------- There is an ability that you can learn from a Pumice Piece that both Dagger and Eiko can learn. The ability is called Boost and this increases the amount of damage a Summon does. Did you notice while you were playing the game that sometimes when you summoned you would get a short video clip and some times you would get a long clip? When you see the full clip it means that the Summon is going to more damage than it would in a short clip. When you equip the Boost ability you will always see the full clip so your Summons will do a higher amount of damage. Fun with Formulas ----------------- The following are the formulas for 3 of the Summons. The first formula is the chance that Odin will cause instant death on an enemy. Dagger's Magic Power/4 + difference between Dagger's level and monsters' level = The percent (%) So lets make up some status here. If Dagger's magic Power is 34 and her level is 50. Then she casts Odin on a level 35 monster. So the calculation would be the following. 34 / 4 + (50 - 35) = 23.5% Now that we have Odin covered, let's move on to our next Summon. Let's look at Phoenix. Now as I said in the Summons section of this guide I said that Phoenix can revive KOed party members. He does this when you use him to attack. But he can come to your aid when all of your party is KOed. Yes, just like the Phoenix and Final Attack Materia combo in FFVII, Phoenix can save you. Now for Phoenix to do this you need to have at least 1 Phoenix Pinion. But it is a very little chance that you will revive someone with 1 Phoenix Pinion. The formula below shows how it goes. No. of Phoenix Pinions / 258 * 100 So you divide the number of your Phoenix Pinions by 258 then multiply that by 100. This gives you the percent chance to revive a party member. If you have 1 Phoenix Pinion you only have a 4.2% percent chance. If you have 99 Phoenix Pinions you have a 38.3% chance. Now for the final Summon, Atomos. Depending on what animation and how many Amethyst you have depends on the percent that Atomos will do. So read the formula for more info. But even if the percent is over 100% the maximum damage is still 9999. Full Animation: 30 + No. of Amethyst = Percent of HP taken Short Animation: 2/3 of Full Animation formula's percent ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~ SUMMON FACTS ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Phoenix ------- Most beings spring from other individuals; but there is a certain kind, which reproduces itself. The Assyrians call it the Phoenix. It does not live on fruit or flowers, but on frankincense and odoriferous gums. When it has lived 500 years, it builds itself a nest in the branches of an oak, on the top of a palm tree. In this it collects cinnamon and spikenard, and myrrh, and of these materials builds a pile on which it deposits itself, and dying, breathes out its last breath amidst odors. From the body of the parent bird, a young Phoenix is born, destined to live as long a life as its parent. When this has grown up and gained sufficient strength, it lifts its nest from the tree (its own cradle and its parent's sepulcher), and carries it to the city of Heliopolis in Egypt, and deposits it in the temple of the sun. Leviathan --------- A creature which defies the power and skill of humans. He appears in the Bible. A good description of him can be found in Isaiah 27:1. Some of his notable features are his back being made of a row of shields and his eyes glowing like the rising sun. The Old Testament: Isaiah 27:1-- "In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea." Bahumut ------- This monstrous fish comes from Moslem traditions. The legend goes that it floats in a vast sea. A giant bull rides on its back and on the bull is a ruby mountain. There is an angel on the mountain over which are six hells, then the Earth, and then seven heavens. Bahamut is so huge and dazzling that human beings cannot look upon it. Eidolon: Dictionary Meaning --------------------------- 1. A phantom; an apparition. 2. An image of an ideal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________________________________ / \ _____| 4.
