Update: I noticed some typos and mistakes in wording, so I've fixed them. **************************************************************************** ============================================================================ INTRODUCTION: ============================================================================ One of "Final Fantasy IX's" (FFIX or FF9) unique features of the FF series is Synthesis Shops where players can put 2 items together, pay the correct amount of gil, and have them combined to produce a new (usually more powerful or useful) equipment or item. Because of the Synthesis feature, players are advised to always keep their items, especially equipments. However, at times, players find themselves short on gil or taking forever to scroll through the long and growing list of items just to find the one thing they are looking for. I have noticed quite a few items that are not used for synthesis, which I will call "non-synthesis items." Knowing the non-synthesis items could help players gain more gil (for better equipment and items) by selling them when the players decide that they no longer need the items. It could also help in some battles when Amarant is in the party: he could use non-synthesis weapsons against monsters with the Throw command. Those are the reasons I decided to make a list of non-synthesis items, and turn it into a faq. Non-equipping Items ============================================================================= NON-SYNTHESIS ITEMS ============================================================================= Below are the non-synthesis items. Each character has his or her own unique weapons, so the lists of weapons will be grouped by character. Rackets can be used by both Garnet and Eiko, so they will have their own separate list. Most armor, head gear, arm gear, and add-ons are useable by multiple characters, making them difficult to group by characters. That's why they are grouped only by armor, head gear, arm gear, and add-ons. Finally is the list of non-equipping items: they are used with the Item command in battles or Use command in the Item menu outside of battles. The items in each list are arranged in alphabetical order. It is recommended that players do not sell, use, or throw rare or miss-able items until the final bosses of the game, unless there is no choice. For each item, try to keep them until all party members have learned every ability they can learn from it.
