EXHUMED (PLAYSTATION GUIDE) WRITTEN BY PETER J MARCROFT [AKA 'enemy of the public'] (2OTH SEPTEMBER 2004) NOTES: - This guide goes in three steps, the first is for the mummy dolls that require no extra abilities, other than you earn through the collection of the 6 in game artefacts. (Extra note: - Even though you can collect these dolls without all of the artefacts collected I stronglyreccomend until you have before attempting to collect them as the paths between them grow stronger dependent on how much later the levels that contain the dolls are.) The second segment of this guide will tell you the locations of the four mummy dolls that require the ability 'DOLPHIN MODE' (I will explain what this is and how to use it in the second part) The final segment of this guide will tell you the locations of the set of mummy dolls that require the ability 'EAGLE MODE' (Again I will explain this ability and how you both use and acquire it during the final segment) A word of warning, do not die once you have collected the doll or else you will lose it, simply navigate back to your camel and save once you have picked it up! Contents: 1.A. 'Regular' game mode Mummy Dolls 1.B. 'Dolphin' game mode Mummy Dolls 1.C. 'Eagle' game mode Mummy Dolls 2.A. Help for levels with more than one Mummy Doll 2.B. Miscellaneous information 1.A. 'Regular' mode *Note* these dolls become increasingly more difficult to acquire as the game goes on, so expect the segments to get longer too, I will put these dolls in the order they can be aquired. I will also be writing these solutions on the assumption you have all the artefacts. Doll 1: - 'Sunken palace of Khnum' (note: - this level is the sole exception to the 'collect all artefacts first' rule, as it is very simple and requires very little extra exploration) To get this one, go through the level until you are in the room with the 'Symbol of power'. Now swim and collect the symbol and swiftly make your way for the two exits, go through the left tunnel and swim out. Take a breath of air and swim back down, you should see a 'full life' item waiting to be collected, through a bomb at the wall behind it and you will expose a switch. Hit it and then go through the 'symbol of power' door and you will see a new room opened, go in and collect the doll. Doll 2: - Sobek mountain shrine This one is very easy, play the level as if you were going to collect the 'Aquatic mask' relic, until you are in the outside room where you have to navigate floating platforms over a pit of lava. Jump on the first platform and bomb the wall in front of you, the mummy doll will be revealed simply collect it. Doll 3: - Nile Gorge This doll is the easiest one the of the lot, period! Go through the level until the very end. Now instead of jumping on the camel and finishing the level, jump over it and bomb the last wall, you will reveal a very strange upside down egyptian room (you'll understand once you see it) and the doll waits to be collected, no trouble at all. Doll 4: - Horus Peak This one is irritating but not too troublesome to get (but difficult to keep!). Play through the level and you'll come across a difficlt section where you have to run across platforms that fall once you touch them. Navigate these and you'll come to a lavafall. Jump over it but instead of moving on turn back around and bomb the lava. You'll reveal a tiny tunnel containing the doll, now no matter how skilled you are it is impossible to not get damaged by the lava so simply do it quickly. Now the tough part about his level is that the way back to the beginning is now inacessible, so you have to actually finish the level, tread carefully and breathe a sigh of relief once done. Doll 5: - 'SOBEK PASS' Start level and go through the tunnel with the large 'ankh' on the wall, once into the main level area, shoot the burning pots and a hole should be blown out in the wall. This will set off a wall cannon that will blast a fireball through a wall behind you. If you enter the tunnel with the 'ankh' you can claim a 'full health power' vessel (I advise saving this for later on). Now play through level as normal until you reach the end. Go through 'Symbol of TIME' door and throw an AMUN bomb at the back wall. This will expose a new room, go through barrier and hit the switch that lies inside. Now retrace your steps back to the room with the ankh on the wall. Carefully jump onto the thin beams at the side and collect 'full life' (cannon will still be firing so be careful) and turn left, the switch will have opened a wall recess that contains the mummy doll, simply walk up to it and it is yours. Doll 6: - 'Set arena' Play level until you come to the room with two pillars that are stood in a pit of lava. Now throw an 'amun bomb' at one and they should explode to reveal a pair of platforms. Jump onto the highest and turn through 180 degrees. Throw a bomb at the 'full health' item and you blow the wall revealing a switch. Hit that and then carefully use the platforms to get back up to the highest platform. Throw a bomb at the wall behind the 'full weapon power' item and you reveal a passageway. (note: the switch you hit opened a door that was hidden here) The next part is relatively simple. Jump upwards and hover at about half distance between floor and jump. Now follow the path around being careful to avoid the flaming balls that are shot from the walls. Collect doll, to get back out, turn left and walk into alcove. A concealed lift will take you up to th top of the level, walk around and bomb the wall. Now walk up to the edge and carefully look down, throw two bombs in to blow out the walls and you'll remerge back in the starting tunnels. Doll 7: - 'Magma Fields' Start level, once on the bridges turn to your immediate left and look over the edge. Throw a bomb down at the lava and you will blow out a segment of wall. carefully hover just over the lava and hit the switch (this is vital do not miss it!) Now carefully drop down between the lavafalls (I advise you look down all the way), at certain points you will have to move across either to your right or left. carefully do this to avoid being burnt and also avoid falling too fast onto the solid wall and dying. Once at the bottom kill all the scorpions and walk through the open door to the left (remember the switch now?) and inside you'll find a conveniently placed camel, ride it and leave the level (as you can't get back up without eagle mode.) Doll 8: - 'Caverns of chaos' This is the hardest of the lot for regular mode. At the start of the level walk onto the sloping ramp and jump upwards, now hover and follow the cavern to the right (you want to be so high that you barely get under the stone beam) continue to hover and drop onto the ledge that has a 'symbol' door on it. Jump and hover at the highest height possible height and then go back towards the stone beam you narrowly got underneath. You should see what looks like a weak wall, bomb it and you will open up a tunnel walk (float?) inside. Select the MANACLE weapon and go to the end of the tunnel. Jump up carefully through the gap into another tunnel. Get rid of the pots and then charge your manacle. Inside the tiny lava pit are two of those lethal monsters, one shot from a fully charged manacle kills them. So nuke both and then enter the room. (note: - look into the lava, if you see a scaled tail then one or even both are not dead) Aim above the stone altar and bomb the ceiling to reveal a hole. Jump through and carefully use the tiny ledges to jump upwards until you reach a corridor. As you go along it you will hear a huge racket caused by something being shot, it turns out to be BLUE RAYS. DO NOT TOUCH THEM! they bring instant death. So first of all walk to the left side of the corridor and look down into the hole. Hug the wall and don't go very far forward, use contant tapping of float to make your drop slow and controlled. Once you reach the bottom turn slightly to the left and aim through the tiny gap, walk carefully through, before turning and facing a similar angle on the right and walking through that gap. Walk to the end of the corridor to see another drop. This one has FOUR cannons shooting, to get through you have to be DEAD CENTRE of the shaft. slowly drift to the bottom and once there gently tap your controller until you are facing the corridor. Ahead you will see loads firing from the walls, walk under the first set and then carefully bite the bullet and jump over the second. (Make sure it is a light jump) now at the end will be one where there is tiny square gap to jump through, take a deep breath and lightly tap the jump button so that you don't go too high or too low. Now float immediately afterwards. Look down and you will see single line of balls, carefully hug the far wall, and gently drop so that you are near the blue balls. Look straight to make sure there are none in front of you then carefully move across to the other wall. drop down and you are through. Gods this doesn't seem like fun anymore does it? Doll 9: - 'Kilmaat Haunt' **Note Read 2.A. before going any further!** This is the first of the mummy dolls concealed by this level, first of all wait to complete the game as then you don't have to face the boss. Now go through the level until the point where you give up artefacts. Go to the far left and drop your 'horus feather' and 'scepter' now return to the elevator and ride up. Go to where the 'full health power' was and a secret room will be open behind it. Simply jump on top of the forcefields (they won't hurt) and walk along, navigating any jumps to get doll. Now go through, give up your items and collect Ramses body. **Note: - HAVE A FULL 'AMUN MINE' BAR BEFORE DOING THIS!) to reach the final level. Doll 10: - 'Tomb of ramses' **Note Read 2.A. before going any further!** You've finished the game, well done, now reap a further reward and collect a final mummy doll! Watch Ramses speech, then carefully navigate the following segment of the level that ramses reveals. Instead of jumping aboard the helicopter at the end of the level turn back and walk close to the left wall. You will see most of the wall as the same colour but one area will have a tiny square, bomb it and a tunnel is revealed, bomb the wall at the end and you will come into an open area. Turn left and throw a bomb at the wall (it should appear obviously different), walk inside and follow the path, it will lead to dead end but the right wall will have an obviously different coloured area. Bomb it to reveal a switch, hit it and go back to the courtyard. Ahead of you (the right wall from the tunnel) will be another explodable wall, bomb it and go through. Ride the elevator down and turn left, blow out the wall (ignore any damage). Follow the new tunnel, blowing out another wall (now you see why you need a full bar!) Keep following the tunnel, blowing out another four walls in the process and you will see a moving elevator, jump down and turn left, bomb wall and hit the switch, ride elevator back up. Bomb new wall (was hidden behind solid wall and walk through, bomb another wall and ride elevator. Throw bomb and wait for elevator to rise up again before disembarking. Do not bomb the wall, but walk up to it and press 'o' on your controller to open it (like a regular door) now simply follow the tunnel blowing out all final blowable walls, collect mummy doll from its tunnel and then continue on and eventually you'll appear next to the helicopter, jump aboard and save. 1.B. 'Dolphin' Mode So what exactly is this mode then? Also how do you know that you are even in it? Well look no further than here for the answers. Firstly the question of what its, in a nutshell it is the regular game only you now the have the abilities of a dolphin, so when you swim you can go very swiftly through the water and when you reach the surface you will jump out at a great height which allows you to reach some areas not normally accessible (complete with dreadful sound effect). Secondly, how to know if you are in it or not, this is very simple, once you have collected the ten dolls mentioned above you will see the outline of a dolphin appear on the left side of the screen, as long as that remains in place you are in this mode. Now to the four dolls you can use this skill for. Doll 11: - Tomb of ramses Now that you have finished the game and read 2.A. you'll understand the need to return here. Start the level and play it as usual until you reach the room with heiroglyphics. Head around the pillar from either side that you came in and bomb the wall, you should now expose a room, inside are tons of scorpions, kill these and tne jump into the water. Swim down and carefully make your way to the centerof the water shaft, throw a bomb at the X above you and you will hear an explosion but not see it, once the data loads the X will have gone. Swim back up to where you jumped and swim down and round, the speed gathered will enable you to dolphin jump upwards and out of the shaft, where the doll awaits to be collected, now simply finsih the level and save it. Doll 12: - Karnak Sanctuary Go through the level as normal and follow the route that is covered with slime (that gives you access to the marshlands in the game story) go under the stone bridge and bomb the left wall. Go inside and kill the enemies before jumping into the water. Swim down and hit the switch on the left wall, the pillars will now move out of the way. Swim through and jump up, the doll is now yours. Finish level to save it. Doll 13: - Heket Marsh Go through the entire level and walk up to the camel, now turn through 180 degrees and bomb the pillar, a hole should now appear. Simply jump in and swim up, the doll is collected in same way as at tome of ramses. Doll 14: - Kilmaat Colony Officially you should collect this to get 'EAGLE' mode, it is up to you, I personally don't reccomend it. I have suggested at the start of segment 1.C. how to get eagle mode with only three dolphin dolls and I strongly reccomend you follow it? What? You're so hardcore you want to do it the old fashioned way? ok then consider it my service to tell you how to do it. Go through the level until you reach the area with the 'symbol of time' door, take the left door that is unmarked (the one with the large lava pit) aim an amun mine at the wall to the north-east and bomb it. Go through and you'll eventually reach a long pool. Ignore the shooting and swim at speed down the shaft, then leap out, commit yourself and aim to clear the gap and land in another pool shaft (if you miss you are dead) repeat in the next room and you have the doll, pull it off on the way back and save your game. (this is much harded than you think) 1.C 'Eagle' mode So the final mode, accessible by gaining 14 mummy dolls. In this mode you have the ability to fly. Simply pressing the 'Jump' button will allow you to flap your wings, going as high as you like. Sadly this means you can no longer float, but the freedom to cut out massive segments of levels due to the ability to fly means all sorts of fun. You will know that you are in this mode when an outline of a bird is on the screen beside that of the dolphin. Now as I said above you are meant to collect the doll at 'Kilmaat colony' to reach this mode, but there is a cheap and easy way, that will not only gain it you swifter, but also make getting the doll at 'Kilmaat Colony' ten times easier. Simply collect the first three 'Dolphin' mummy dolls and then do the first of these eagle ones. Impossible? Read on and you'll see just how possible it is. Doll 15: - Thoth treasure reliquary Play this level as if you were aiming to collect the 'anklets' artefact. Now once in the room with the anklets pedestal throw a bomb at it and you will reveal a shaft. Carefully drop down to the bottom and collect the doll. If you are doing this without 'eagle' mode but have collected 13 dolls, then collection of this will make the 'eagle' image appear, simply fly back up and exit the level. Doll 16: - Karnak Go through this level and aim to follow the route of the nile (where you get access to the south of the map). After jumping over the early path and collecting the 'full weapon power' item, follow the route down until you reach the river. Kill the enemies and throw a bomb at the top of the waterfall on your left. Simply fly up to the ledge and walk around it, the mummy doll awaits you. Doll 17: - Amun mines Go into the level and go to the room where you first got the 'Amun bomb', kill the enemies and then look up, throw a bomb at the centre of the purple ceiling to expose a passage. Fly up and the mummy doll is there for the taking. Doll 18: - Deserted slave camp Start the level and fly up the crossing pathways above you, enter the room to the right of the 'symbol of war' doorand hit the switch to drop the pillar and expose the levels you have to jump through. Fly up to the top level, be careful of the enemies here and enter the door. Drop down to the next level and walk into the room, aim up at the ceiling and throw a bomb, you will reveal a shaft, fly up it and there will be a path, walk along it and collect the mummy doll. Doll 19: - Selkis path Go through the level as normal until the end (the navigation of the lava falls is much more difficult since you can no longer float) Now simply fly up from the entrance to the cave that contains the camel and right at the top of the level is another path, take it to find the mummy doll at the end. Doll 20: - Selkis Burrow Start the level and after the first staircase face the door and turn through 180 degrees, blow the wall to reveal a switch, hit it and a nearby stair will lower. Bomb the wall inside the space where the stair was to reveal another switch. Hit it and then backtrack up the stairs and you should see a space where a stair has fallen through. Drop down carefully and walk along corridor. Now fly up this final shaft and walk along to find the mummy doll, simply collect it. Doll 21: - Set Palace Relatively simple really. Start the level and enter as usual, not after killing the mummy instead of going through the level drop out of the gap on your left and land carefully, turn through 180 degrees and you'll see a small space between the bridge and the lava. Throw a bomb in here and then fly through the gap, the doll is there for the taking. Doll 22: - Cavern of Peril This another that is relatively simple. Go through the level collecting the 'symbol of power', then walk back to the door and throw a bomb at the wall. A switch will be revealed, fly all the way back up to the top of the level (yes the very top!) and fly up to the ledge that has 'full weapon power' on it, a panel will have opened there containing the mummy doll! Doll 23: - Kilmaat haunt/arena The final doll is very well hidden, go through the level sacrificing artefacts once again and walk onto the pad that takes you to (the vacant) arena. Go through but instead of collecting Ramses body jump onto one of the ledges, carefully drop down onto the lowest ledge and turn to face the path that contains Ramses body, there at the end of the walkway is the final mummy doll. Jump forward and you will land on an invisible path, collect the doll and turn around, carefully jump and fly up to the platform, collect the body, do the tomb of ramses thing once again, save your game and congratulations, you have officially completed EXHUMED 100%, welcome to the realm of immortality!! 2.A More than one doll? There are 23 mummy dolls in this game, but only 21 levels... hmm... guess there must be others, well no there aren't, but there are levels with more than one doll. These are: - 'Hilmaat Haunt/Arena' 'Tomb of Ramses' Basically each of these two levels has a mummy doll gained via 'regular abilities' and one that is gained via these 'special mode' abilities. So retrace your steps to the guide and enjoy relic hunting on this game, Indiana Jones style! 2.B. Miscellaneous information 1) This is MY FAQ!
