My urge to cover more SMS FAQs however has never wavered and that is why I'm back today in the newest SEGA Master System Completion Project which is hosted on the FAQ Contributors - General Board. I decided to start with Back to the Future: Part II for my comeback as I'm a fan of the films and was surprised there was no FAQ yet. That surprise went away once I started playing, but that is a detail. This FAQ/Walkthrough won't give a step by step walkthrough, but is just meant to learn you how to play the game and solve the puzzles. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2- Gameplay [A200] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============================================================================== 2.1- Hoverboard Chase [A201] =============================================================================== In my introduction I told you I was surprised nobody wrote a FAQ for this game, but once I started playing the first level I immediately understood it. The first level is a cheap Paperboy clone where you ride on you hoverboard and avoid the obstacles and the enemies. It isn't a lot of fun though, enemies appear out of nowhere and it will be very difficult to avoid them. Sometimes you'll also just randomly crash without any reason. Finishing this level will require a lot of patience, despite fairly easy gameplay. The level consists out of seven part, where the last part contains two big ponds you need to cross. You need to be careful here because you can crash against the screen if you go too fast. Luckily this isn't a problem the rest of the time, but it isn't recommended because you will have less time to react to enemies and less time to reach the items that you can pick up by driving over them. Enemies include miniature cars, skateboarders and cars who will kill you in one hit. Always be careful when reaching a new screen and ready to press B to jump over an enemy. Sometimes enemies on skateboards will try to follow you, but don't worry about them. They can't kill you like the others and you can kill them by circling them in a small circle. You don't have to do that. They'll disappear anyway when you reach the 'end' of the street and go into 'Extended Time,' which just means your perspective will change and you'll turn into a new street. You'll do this six times before reaching the end of the level. In this level the police finds Jennifer who was hidden behind some trash and brings her back home. Doc and Marty have to rescue Jennifer before she is found by her future family members which is done via a simple top-down puzzle sequence where you open two doors each step. You can solve the sequence in three steps. Start by opening the door next to Jennifer who is at the top left of the house. She will move to the empty room to the right while the guy in the living room will move to the small empty, gray room on the bottom right. This way, the living room will be empty and you can reach the front door. To reach the front door; open up the red door next to Jennifer and then the front door itself. Congrats. You have solved the puzzle and gained an extra life. I have made a simple map to illustrate everything, where the numbers show in which you need to take the doors. Opening the doors themselves won't be any trouble. You only need to select the doors via the D-Pad and you open them via the A button. *********************************** ******** EE D * * = Wall ******** D * D = Door **********DD********** * * 1 = Door 1 * * * ***DD****DD*** 2 = Door 2 * JJ 1 2 EE * 3 = Door 3 * 1 2 * E = Family Member * * * * J = Jennifer **DD******DD*** ***11****DD*** * D * * * * EE D * D * * * * D * *****************33**************** =============================================================================== 2.3- Beat Biff [A203] =============================================================================== In Beat Biff the game changes to a side-scrolling beat-'em-up where you need to defeat the enemies that attack you while moving to the right. These enemies aren't very difficult though and except for a single motorcycle you won't come across any obstacles so a detailed walkthrough won't be necessary. Only the controls will provide a little bit of a challenge. You move by pressing left or right on the D-Pad, you jump by pressing B and you hit somebody by pressing A. The most important button is the down button which allows you to duck. You need to do this to pick up items and to kick enemies (by also pressing B) which is handy to quickly defeat enemies. You don't need to fear the barrels that roll your way, they just bounce back off. =============================================================================== 2.4- Band Puzzle [A204] =============================================================================== The fourth level is another simple puzzle, but this time it is based on the ending scene of the original Back to the Future movie. It is a sliding puzzle where you need to move all pieces to their original place by sliding them. The order isn't the same for everyone, so I can't give a step by step walkthrough, but isn't very difficult. At any moment you can only move one piece which you do via the D-Pad. Up moves the block underneath the empty space one space up, the Bottom arrow moves the block above the empty space down, ... The best way to solve the puzzle is to memorize the picture and start sliding! At the top you'll see the banner 'Enchantment Under The Sea' banner. Underneath the banner you'll see - from left to right - the pianist, the cello player, the guitarist- singer, the drummer and the sax player. =============================================================================== 2.5- Hoverboard Chase 2 [A205] =============================================================================== The previous Hoverboard Chase was a 2015 level, but this time we return to 1955 for the last level. The gameplay isn't changed, but the environment and enemies look different. The number of cars and people on foot is a lot higher, but you won't be bothered by the skaters so this should be more doable than the first level. At the end however there is a fun surprise. In the last part - when you go into the 'brick tunnel,' turn around and come back outside there is a rope ladder behind the grey sign which you need to hit to finish the game with the good ending. If you don't you'll get the bad ending because you couldn't save the future. To make matters worse, the rope ladder isn't very clear, but if you look for the sign, it won't be a problem. The following link shows a video walkthrough for the level which should give you an idea how the rope looks.
