INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'High School! Kimengumi' for the Sega Master System and MSX2, an action- adventure released by Sega and Pony Canyon in 1986. The rest of this guide will talk about the SMS version since I do not know enough about MSX hardware or software to describe controls etc. The story is based on a mange which is an episodic chronicle of the bizarre adventures of a group of misfit junior high school (and later, high school) boys who form a club known as the "Kimengumi". At its peak it ran as an anime television series in Japan, with 86 episodes produces running from 1985 to 1987. This game is based on that series. This game was only released in Japan and has a lot of Japanese text. To play the original you would need a lot of Japanese knowledge, but luckily an English translation has been released to help you. I cannot give you any technical support on getting that running but you can find it online if you look around a little. The guide is based on the translated terms, thus if you play with the original you will have to translate it back on the fly. Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Controls G0210 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are the basic controls when on-foot: Button 1 = Open Menu, Confirm Menu Items Button 2 = Open doors or desks, enter/exit rooms, use items D-Pad = Walk Overall this is very simple to understand. Menu: ````` Open the menu with Button 1 and you will get the following choices: *Take: Pick up an item around you *Use: Uses or equips an item *Throw: Throws and item away (will return to its original place) *Talk: Talk to the person in your vicinity *Back: Closes the menu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Items G0220 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can only carry one of each item at the same time. Ball Found on a desk in the lab. Thrown at one of the kimengumi to knock him out. Bucket Can be found in many locations. Put it down to block the path for the baddies which can often help you. Chalk Found at the blackboard of most classrooms. When hitting an enemy it will stun them for a few seconds. It has 10 "ammo" before you have to pick up another one. Clock Used to wake up the guy in the nurse's office. Found in Class B on the teacher's desk. Donut; Eat it for a short time of indivisibility, with the downside being that you cannot move. Eraser Found at the blackboard in some classrooms. When hitting an enemy it will stun them for a few seconds. It only lasts for one hit. Harmonica Found in the music room, will make the lab geeks fall asleep. Also makes the headmaster fall asleep again! Letter Distracts one of the kimengumi. Kettle Found in the headmaster's office. It will wake him up so be sure bring a harmonica to make him sleepy again. The kettle is used to knock out of the kimengumi. Milk: Eat it for a short time of indivisibility, with the downside being that you cannot move. Rope Used to tie up kimengumi. Cannot be used on regular bad dudes though. Found in a Class A desk. You pretty much NEED this to start the game off, not sure why it would be so well hidden... Trumpet Not used? Aside from the items above, there are also items you can find in desks that score points. You will never obtain these into your inventory. Banana (200p) Flower (500p) Sock (1000p) Diamon (10000p) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enemies G0220 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For all four types of enemies there is one rule you need to know: if they touch you in anyway it is GAME OVER! Never ever let them touch you! Punks: High-schoolers who do not like you much. They walk around desks. Can be stopped in their path with buckets. Geeks: Lab guys which are the same as the punks. If you play the harmonica they will fall asleep. Frogs: Found when opening desks. You should know which desk from the list in this guide but if you open some anyway note that they escape right down off screen so simply step to the side. Roaches: These can be found in desks and will attack you. They will be gone once you re-enter the room but you might consider not opening desks with them inside anyway since you know where the good stuff is from the guide... =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== You start the game on the map view. Since you will be spending a lot of time getting around this area you might want to get familiar with it. Here is an ouline: ________________________________________________________ | | | | | | MUSIC ROOM | CLASS A | CLASS B | CLASS C | |______________|_____________|_____________|_____________| | | |______________ ________________________________| | | | | | | | CLASS D | | SHOP | LIBRARY | | |______________| |__________|_____________| STAFF | | | | | | ROOM | | CLASS E | | NURSE | HEADMASTER | | |______________| |__________|_____________|_______| | | | | |________________________________________________________| | | | | | | LAB | CLASS F | CLASS G | CLASS H | |______________|_____________|_____________|_____________| The goal of the game is to catch up to five kimengumi (Rei, Go, Kiyoshi, Jin and Dai). They can be found in specific places but some need an action before they appear. You must catch at least once before proceeding to the staff room and finish the game. It is highly suggested to catch all for a higher score as well as completing the game to 100%. CLASS A: ```````` Enter and take the ROPE from the middle row, second desk from the left. Leave the room (I will not mention this again, seems kind of obvious). CLASS B: ```````` Take the CLOCK. MUSIC: `````` Sit down on the piano chair (Button 2). When the guy is at the right-most part of the screen get up (Button 2 again) and quickly run up to him. Use the rope to get him out of here. You run faster than him so you should make it. If you are too slow, simply return to the piano to play again. While here, also pick up the HARMONICA from the table in the lower right. CLASS D: ```````` Take the LETTER in plain sight. CLASS F: ```````` Equip the letter, use it from anywhere and then equip the rope and use it near the guy. It has be very close to work. When you get it right the scene will play and you will have caught your first target. NURSE: `````` Walk left towards the bed, then use the clock. The guy will wake up so use the rope nearby him to send him away. If you are too slow he will go back to bed (in which case you want to try again). LAB: ```` Pick up the BALL on the desk in the bottom row, middle table. CLASS H: ```````` Equip the ball, then use it with the action button. Get near the guy and use the rope to finish him off. HEADMASTER: ``````````` Grab the KETTLE at the lower right. The table will fall over and the headmaster will wake up. Quickly use the harmonica to make him fall asleep again. It did tell you to get that beforehand because otherwise the headmaster will grab you and it is game over, man! CLASS C: ```````` Use the kettle and wait. Use the rope when he has fallen to the ground. STAFF ROOM: ``````````` Once you enter you are given your score. You should have a good score from just catching them all and even better if you spent more time collecting items from the desks. CONGRATULATIONS! =============================================================================== 04.) DESK ITEMS G0400 =============================================================================== The following is a list of all the items found in desks. For classrooms it is easy to open the desks but for the lab you must open the left side of the table (still facing it from the south though). .---------. | CLASS A:| |----------------------------------. | | | Banana Banana - Frog | | | | Flower >Rope< Frog - | | | | - - Banana Flower | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS B:| |----------------------------------. | | | - - Sock - | | | | Frog Frog Frog Frog | | | | Banana Flower Flower Banana | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS C:| |----------------------------------. | | | Banana Frog - Flower | | | | - Flower - Banana | | | | Frog - Frog - | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS D:| |----------------------------------. | | | Flower - Banana Roach | | | | Roach Sock - Banana | | | | - Frog - - | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS E:| |----------------------------------. | | | - Sock - Flower | | | | Frog Banana Diamond - | | | | Frog Flower - Banana | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS F:| |----------------------------------. | | | Roach - Roach - | | | | - - Roach Roach | | | | - Roach - - | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS G:| |----------------------------------. | | | Sock Frog Flower Banana | | | | - Sock Banana Frog | | | | Banana Flower Flower Banana | | | '----------------------------------' .---------. | CLASS H:| |----------------------------------. | | | Frog - Frog Sock | | | | - Frog Banana Frog | | | | Frog Banana Frog Flower | | | '----------------------------------' .-------. | MUSIC:| |----------------------------------. | | | Banana Roach - Flower | | | | - Frog - Sock | | | | - Harmonica Banana - | | | '----------------------------------' .-----. | LAB:| |-------------------------. | | | Frog Sock - | | | | Banana Frog Flower | | | | - - | | | '-------------------------' =============================================================================== YY.)
