It is a project set up at the FAQ Contributors Board at GameFAQs to give all Sega Master System games a FAQ. It was started by Masamune3 in the case of the Sega Master System but there are projects like that for other consoles too. "Pass GO and collect $200!" "Go directly to Jail!" Everyone knows MONOPOLY, the world famous real estate trading game. Now, you can play the exciting MONOPOLY video game on your Sega System! MONOPOLY is fantastic fun for the entire family. You can play against the computer - with skill levels you select - or get up to ten players in on the action. It has special features such as a built-in battery so you can save games and play them later. Roll the dice with a push of a button. Your token comes to life and moves around the board! Buy companies and properties. Increase the value of your properties by building houses and hotels. Land on "Chance" or "Community Chest" and pick a card. With strategy and luck, you can become a winner. But you never know how the dice will roll! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2- FAQ [A200] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= [1] [Q]. What are those numbers like [A300] next to the title of every section? [A] It is the search engine of this FAQ. Press Ctrl and F. Type in the search code for the section you want to go to. You should be there in two steps. [2] [Q]. Can I build houses on one property and none on the other properties of the same colour? [A] No, you must build the same amount of houses on every property that has the same colour. There can only be a difference of one house. [3] [Q]. What happens when there aren't any houses left? [A] You'll have to wait until someone buys an hotel or sells them. [4] [Q]. When and where can I build houses? [A] You can buy them anytime but you can only build them when you have all the properties of one colour. [5] [Q]. Do I get money from other players while I'm in jail? [A] Yes, you can still collect money from the other players for when they arrive on your property. [6] [Q]. What can I do with the Mortgage on a Property? [A] You can use it for everything I want. Except you can't pre-finance a property to buy it. [7] [Q]. If one property is mortgaged, what happens to others that I own in that colour group? [A] Nothing. This means that you continue to collect double rent on any unimproved, unmortgaged properties if you own all the properties in a particular colour group. [8] [Q]. How much money do I win for landing on Free Parking? [A] None according to the official rules. There are variations that do give you something for landing there. [9] [Q]. I own all four railroads, but one is mortgaged. How much rent do I collect? [A] The fact that one railroad (or one property in a colour group) is mortgaged does not affect the rent owed when players land on other railroads (or other properties in that same colour group). [10] [Q]. When moving around the board because of a card, do I still collect $200 if I pass Go? [A]. Yes, unless you're sent to Jail. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3- Basics [A300] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============================================================================== 3.1- Controls [A301] =============================================================================== >> CONTROL PAD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Control Pad is only used to navigate in the menus. It doesn't play any role during the game itself except for using the menus. It is a bit sad you can't move the Token yourself. >> 1/START >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The 1/START Button is used to confirm in menus unless it is specified 2 has that specific function. >> 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The 2 button will usually have two functions. B-1 denotes the function if you press short, B-2 when you press long. The function of this button will be on the screen if you can use this button. =============================================================================== 3.2- Setting up the game [A302] =============================================================================== The Set Up Process for the game is the hardest part of the game because making a single mistake might lead you back to the Start Screen and you can start setting up all over. Press 1 at the Start Screen to take you to the Option Screen. Choose a Token for yourself with the Control Pad. Press A when you found the good one. This will take you to a screen where you can enter your name. Move to the right letters with the Control Pad and confirm the letter with the 1 Button. Move over to 'Done' when you entered your name. If you made a mistake, use the Backspace button. Press B-1 and the game will ask if you want a Computer Player. Select Yes and press 1 because you can't play alone. Select a Token and press 1. Choose the level for the Computer Player and Press 1 again. Press B-1 now to select if you want a Time Limit or not. After that, the game is started by letting all the players roll the dice to see who starts. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4- Playing the Game [A400] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============================================================================== 4.1- Basics [A401] =============================================================================== When your turn starts, a big menu will pop up in the centre of the screen where you can go to all the important parts of the game. You can change the Game Options by going to the 'More Options' screen. You can also choose for 'Game Over' at the screen when you think you're going to lose. You can also view the Title Deeds of your property; you can try to sell your property, pay your mortgage, or get one, and try to get out of jail. Roll the dice to advance in the game, your Token will move over the board after the dice have been thrown and they will move for a certain amount of spaces. After that, you can follow the instructions of the block you landed on. Between the turns of players, every player can access a couple of options like buying buildings. =============================================================================== 4.2- Property [A402] =============================================================================== Whenever you land on a property that isn't owned by anyone, you can buy that property from the bank at the price that is displayed at the card. You get the Title Deed card to prove your ownership. If you don't buy it, the property is auctioned and the other players can bid for it. When you land on someone else's property, you'll have to pay a certain amount of rent that is mentioned on the deed. The amount depends on the number of houses, hotels and the number of properties owned that are the same colour. This doesn't happen if the Deed is mortgaged. =============================================================================== 4.3- Mortgage [A403] =============================================================================== Every property without houses and hotels on it can be mortgaged through the bank whenever you want. You can only mortgage your property if there are buildings on it, after selling your buildings from the same colour group to the bank. You only get paid half price for them. The mortgage value is on the title deed. You can't collect rent from mortgaged property but rent from properties without mortgage, are still at the same price. In order to lift the mortgage, the owner must pay the bank the value of the mortgage and 10% interest on the value of the property. The owner can build houses on the property again. You may sell the property to another player. That player will have to pay 10% of the value of the property to the bank and can decide to lift the mortgage at that time. If he doesn't, he can do at any time later but he'll have to pay the 10% again. In case of bankruptcy: If you have mortgaged property, you also turn this property over to the person but the new owner must at once pay the bank the interest on the loan, which is 10% of the value of the property. The new owner who does this may pay the principal or hold the property until he decides to pay it off. If this is done, he'll have to repay the interest. =============================================================================== 4.4- Jail [A404] =============================================================================== The Jail is one of the worst places on the board. While you're in Jail, you can't move over the board and others can buy the property you might wanted to boy. You still get rent for your properties so you won't have to worry about losing your income. However, you don't get your pass go reward when you have to go the jail. You land in jail when - you reach the "Go to Jail" space. - you draw the "Go to Jail" card. - you throw doubles three times in a row. You don't land in jail when - you arrive on the Jail space. You're only visiting. You get out of jail by - throwing doubles in any of your three throws - pay a $50 fine - Use the "Get out of Jail free" card you have or bought. - After three turns, you'll automatically pay the fine. =============================================================================== 4.5- Free Parking [A405] =============================================================================== The Free parking is on the other side from Go. In some games, you'll get money for reaching it. However, the official rules, don't include this rule. Landing on Free Parking doesn't give you anything. It only makes sure you don't land on anything that could be negative to you. =============================================================================== 4.6- Passing Go [A406] =============================================================================== Each time a player's Token lands on or passes over Go, whether by throwing the dice or drawing a card, the banker pays him/her a $200 Salary. The $200 is paid only once each time around the board. However if a player immediately lands on a Chance/Community Chest block and draws a 'Go to Go' card, you'll get paid twice. You aren't paid when you have to go to Jail. =============================================================================== 4.7- Buying Houses and Hotels [A407] =============================================================================== If you own all the properties of one colour, you can buy houses from the bank and place them on any of your properties. The next house you buy has to be placed on one of the properties without a building of that colour group. You can buy up to four houses on one property. You can't place four houses Buying hotels is very similar. You have to give back your four houses on the property and pay the price for the hotel. The price for the hotel is usually the same as that of a price. You can only buy one hotel for each property. When the bank is out of buildings, you can't build anymore until someone sells his houses again. =============================================================================== 4.8- Losing the Game [A408] =============================================================================== Losing Monopoly is compared to the effort you'll have to place in winning it, incredibly easy. You'll lose when you're bankrupt. The last player remaining in the game wins it. You're declared bankrupt if you owe more than you can pay either to another player or to the bank. If your debt is to another player, you must turn over all you that you have of value to that player. After that, you have to retire from the game. In making this settlement, if you own houses or hotels, you must return these to the bank in exchange for money to the extent of one-half the amount paid for them; this cash is given to the guy you owed money to. If you have mortgaged property, you also turn this property over to the person but the new owner must at once pay the bank the interest on the loan, which is 10% of the value of the property. The new owner who does this may pay the principal or hold the property until he decides to pay it off. If this is done, he'll have to repay the interest. If you owe the bank instead of another player, more than you can pay, even by selling buildings and taking out mortgages, you have to give everything back to the bank who holds an auction to sell it all except for the buildings who go back in the pot of houses. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5- Cards [A500]
