My urge to cover more SMS FAQs however has never wavered and that is why I'm back today in the newest SEGA Master System Completion Project which is hosted on the FAQ Contributors - General Board. Today I'm covering Space Gun, the last uncovered Light Gun game for the SEGA Master System. It is a long but simple game that is good for a lot of fun. It is always nice to write a FAQ for a game that you enjoy playing, so I'm hoping it shows. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2- Walkthrough [A200] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Space Gun is a fairly straightforward Light-Gun game where you need to shoot monsters and rescue good guys. During the game you don't control your path or your speed, you only get to shoot at the monsters and at the power-ups that are located in boxes on the wall. You have unlimited ammunition to defeat all foes, but there is a heat meter that quickly refills when you stop shooting. You also have a health meter, but you will hardly feel the damage if you're quick enough as the enemies take a while before they fire. =============================================================================== 2.1- Round 1 [A201] =============================================================================== 2039 A.D. ... MAN BEGINS DEEP SPACE EXPLORATION. HOWEVER THERE ARE MANY UNKNOWN DANGERS IN SPACE. ON A CRIPPLED SPACE SHIP, SIGNALING FOR HELP ... A NEW HORROR IS AWAKENED. In first instance that new danger strongly resembles security turrets. Aim for their 'eye' and they will quickly explode. Six camera's will appear one by one before you reach a door. Once you reach it, the door will open and the real fun can begin. Your viewpoint will start scrolling from left to right and monsters will appear from the left and the right. They will run for a bit and then turn to the camera to start firing. You don't have to be afraid though, you need to shoot each monster three times which is perfectly possible to do before they start attacking you. Sometimes you'll see a human soldier appearing. Make sure they don't get attacked by a monster, but ignore them for the rest. They'll be rescued automatically unless attacked in this stage. Sometimes you'll see red boxes on the wall, shoot them for power-ups. In the end you will reach big blue doors and start the next part of the level. Here you will be attacked by big red spiders and some hostages will appear. It will be more difficult to save those hostages as the enemies are often behind them. Luckily they are quite a bit bigger so you should still be able to hit them without jeopardizing the safety of the hostages. It also helps the spiders can be taken out in two hits and don't start attacking until they reach you. At the end you'll have saved three hostages in total and reach another door. This brings us to the next part, which scrolls from right to left. Enemies come in from the left and the right, and are big walking monsters. You can always take them out before they start shooting. It isn't very long and you won't encounter any hostages. Luckily the next part contains a lot more people to save. This area looks like the previous one with the spiders, but with the big, green monsters instead of the spiders. You'll also see a lot of hostages, but this time you can't be too comfortable. Some of them will turn into monsters and you can't stop them. If you see two soldiers at the same time, the second one is very likely to turn, but don't bother shooting them before they change. After rescuing two hostages, you will encounter the doors that bring you to the next hallway. We move from right to left again, but with orange enemies this time. They require a bit more shots, but that is the only change. In this hallway you'll rescue another human before reaching the doors that brings the level to a close. =============================================================================== 2.2- Round 2 [A202] =============================================================================== MONSTERS ATTACK THE CREW ... WILL ANY OF THEM SURVIVE? A good question as it seems highly unlikely when you're confronted by big, gray monsters coming straight at you. You'll have to destroy six of them with three- four shots each. You'll quickly advance to the next part, which strongly resembles the second part of the first level. You'll even encounter the same green enemies. Suddenly the scenery changes and you end up in a hallway where the walls are covered by green plants or slime. Here you will find more exotic enemies like flying orbs and sidewards moving, blue spiders with an egg between their legs. They look a bit more original, but they have the same durability as the other enemies. Just before the end you will save one hostage and move on to the next part. We switch back to the other viewpoint with the enemies coming from the front and you will have to fight the blue spiders with the eggs again. They are a bit tinier right now, so they are harder to hit and pose the first real threat. It makes saving the hostages a bit easier though as the spiders mostly reside at the top of the room. At the end you'll reach an elevator and reach a similar room as just before the elevator. This time the mutating soldiers are back and this time they are less predictable. You won't face any other enemies here, so it won't be a problem. You'll quickly end up in another hallway moving from left to right. This one has 'robotic monkeys' and 'flying pumpkins'. This part will be long, but will end suddenly when the screen goes black. This last part contains three pods, from the first one a big worm will appear that you need to shoot. Aim for its head and ignore the other pods. They will be destroyed when the worm is destroyed. In the end you'll end up at an escape pod where the soldiers get rescued and you get rewarded. =============================================================================== 2.3- Round 3 [A203] =============================================================================== ALL COMMUNICATION FROM STAR BASE R HAS CEASED. TAKE COMMAND OF A SPACE SHUTTLE AND INVESTIGATE! Despite the new setting, the gameplay doesn't really change in this third round so you'll start off with blue spiders with an egg coming straight at you. The screen is a bit wider, but the amount of enemies is still limited and their movements didn't change. After a short period without enemies, a new enemy will turn up. They are flat, flying stingrays that are hard to hit. A little while later even smaller enemies start showing up, looking like flying eyes without eye lids. Things get crazier and crazier, but they can be destroyed in one hit if you manage to hit them. After two minutes, the camera will stop moving, but your viewpoint remains the same. After confronting a couple of the small eye enemies, a big UFO will show up and unleash more of those eyes. Shoot them as quickly as possible and you end up at the last part where you're confronted by a new boss. It has three mouths, but you only need to aim for the center one. The level ends when you reach a big base. =============================================================================== 2.4- Round 4 [A204] =============================================================================== WE'VE ARRIVED AT THE STAR BASE. ARE THE OCCUPANTS IN DANGER? Well yes, that is a stupid question. You'll see that immediately when the first enemy comes dropping in from the top. Shoot this big yellow bastard and move to the next room by defeating all four of them. We're moving from left to right here while shooting at orange, walking dogs. They move quite erratic so it is difficult to hit them, but they take a while before they attacking you. Once you reach a big door, you reach a new room where you are attacked by spiders. The amount of spiders is fairly low and you will reach the fourth part of the level fairly fast. This part looks a lot like the second part, but scrolling to the left. The fifth part brings us four big, gray aliens. Easy to hit and dead before they start hurting you. The sixth part is again a left to right scrolling level with the old green aliens again. We've had a lot of levels like that now and this one is just the same, but with a different background. The seventh part is another left to right level, but this time with purple dogs. You will also see hostages from this point onwards. The next part contains more hostages and the flying sting- rays, with a giant stingray being the final boss for the level. Shoot this giant blue thing in the middle and finish the level. =============================================================================== 2.5- Round 5 [A205] =============================================================================== ARE SOME PEOPLE STILL ALIVE IN THE DEPTHS OF THE BASE? Who cares? We just want to shoot more monsters! The orange walking dogs will start attacking from the front and they are very ugly. They will also be the enemy in the second part, which scrolls from right to left. Both levels are quite boring as they bring no real challenge with the Light Gun. The third part brings the challenge back with a new enemy, worms that quickly start shooting at you. So they are small and dangerous, but they die after one hit. The fourth part brings back the robotic monkeys and flying pumpkins in a level that goes from left to right. It is fairly long, but you will survive. The next part is another front to back level, using the green aliens from the beginning again. They are mixed with soldiers and mutating soldiers, so you can't lose your focus. Once this part is over, we get a new scenery. On some weird red plane you're attacked by the blue spiders. It won't take long before you reach the boss for this level: a giant monster that breaths fire. A couple of shots in the middle and he disappears. Sykes! It wasn't the level boss. This huge blob of fire is. Aim for the face when the fight starts, but switch to the opening above his face when it opens. Switch back to the face when he closes it. Keep following this pattern, while shooting the balls that he unleashes. =============================================================================== 2.6- Round 6 [A206] =============================================================================== THE SITUATION AT THE BASE HAS WORSENED. INITIATE SELF DESTRUCT! ESCAPE FROM HERE IMMEDIATELY USING THE SPACE SHIP AT THE BASE! The way to the space ship is filled with monsters, so it won't be easy to flee. Starting with five green aliens in the first part isn't difficult, but the next part brings us robotic monkeys in a level that scrolls from right to left. They get more chances to fire this time so don't be surprised when you lose a bit of health in this long stretch. It will take about one and a half minute to reach the next part, which is quite long in a level that should take less than five to finish. The third part is a forward scrolling level that brings the purple dogs. We quickly end up at the boss, which is some sort of mutant frog. Shoot at its mouth and the balls it shoots. It will end the level. =============================================================================== 2.7- Round 7 [A207] =============================================================================== NOW ENTER THE COCKPIT AND RETURN TO EARTH! Too bad the cockpit itself contains an enemy: a giant monster that doesn't move and only shoots at you. Aim for its ribcage and see its health meter go down with every shot. Don't hold back and don't pay attention to your health. Once you've done enough damage, he will move to a new location. He will keep doing this until he only has one third of his health left. At this point he ducks and when he returns, he will have transformed into an even bigger monster. Shoot it and the balls he unleashes and the level will end - before the health meter of the enemy - reaches zero. This ends the game and brings you to a very simple 'sequel hook' for a sequel that never came to be. WE HAVE SUCCEEDED IN OUR ESCAPE! BUT WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT DO THEY WANT? THIS WAR HAS JUST STARTED. WHEN THEY INVADE OUR MOTHER PLANET EARTH WE MUST UNITE AND FIGHT AGAINST THEM.
