------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------[ Sports Pad Football ]------------------------------ ----------------------------[by Ice Queen Zero]-------------------------------- ---------------------------[ Sega Master System ]------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- o---------------------o INTRODUCTION o---------------------o If you ain't got the real thing which is the actual game and the Sports Pad that this game requires then don't bother even reading this FAQ unless you are just wanting something to read as the emulator ain't even going to cut it. I tried using JavaGear and the Mednafen that I know is hosted at Vizzed.com and believe you me, the controls are out of wack. If you try to advance right, you'll end up going down and to the right. After I got through writing this FAQ playing the game on the actual system and the Sports Pad thanks to mom, I was told about MEKA. I gave this a shot and it game me nothing but grief. This is just another game to knock off the SMS Completion Project List. Update: There is a control pad version of this game called Great Football so you can use this guide or that guide for either game. Just remember this uses the Sports Pad and the other one doesn't. o---------------------o DISCLAIMER o---------------------o Sports Pad Football is a trademark of Sega and all copyrights belong to them. You're the driving force that can take your football team to the top in this rough and tumble contest between the leagues. The outcome of the game is in your hands. As the quarterback, you select the plays. Line up the formation. Call the signals and carry the ball. Cut down your opponent with deadly blocking. Intercept a pass. Make a flying tackle. All you need is skill. Strategy. Cunning. And nerve. For non-stop action that charges across the screen. You decide to pass. It looks good. Touchdown! o---------------------o CONTROLS o---------------------o Trackball to move your player in the desired direction. Button 1 = Start Game/Hike the ball/Scramble/Tackle Button 2 = Start Game/Tackle/Pass/Field Goal/Punt/Block Kick/Intercept/Choose play o---------------------o TEAMS o---------------------o There are 12 teams to choose from. They are not based off of any NFL teams. The teams do not hail from any city despite being an NFC and AFC division. AFC --- Spartans Bombers Dukes Foxes Sharks Huskies NFC --- Bucks Knights Wildcats Beavers Boomers Gators After you choose a team, you will then choose the opponent that you want to face off against. There really isn't a difference between the teams except for some fancy colors. o---------------------o GAMEPLAY o---------------------o Choose a 1 or 2 player game. You need 2 for a 2 player game. If you try to play this on an emulator, prepare for disappointment unless you have a compatible controller to use. In a 1 player game, you automatically play the 4th quarter and the computer has a random score that you must beat before time runs out. The only way the CPU's score will go up is if you get tackled in the end zone for a safety or if it runs an interception back for a touchdown. A 2 player game is played as normal where you try to get more points than the other player. You can choose from 1 of 9 plays during 1 player mode and 1 of 9 plays in a 2 player mode. The plays will cycle between downs. Press the 2 button when the wanted play is highlighted. In a 1-player game, the 9th play will only come up if within the 45 yard line to attempt a field goal. You have 4 downs to get a 1st down which is normally 10 yards unless some of the yardage was lost thus you must make up that yardage for the 1st down. Failure to get a first down will change sides in a 2 player game but in a 1 player game, you will lose 10 yards and a fresh set of downs. The difference between a pass play and a run play is that the former will show routes that the receivers will run. Press 1 to throw the ball to the player you are facing. It's hard to get the trajectory right so use pass as a last resort unless you know what you are doing. Plays 1-4 are pass plays and Plays 5-8 are run plays but you can press the 1 button on the pass play to scramble (meaning the quarterback will run). You get 6 points for a touchdown, 1 point for PAT, 3 points for a successful field goal, and 2 points for a safety (2-player only). o---------------------o CREDITS o---------------------o Sega for making this game.
