From: lang0104@itlabs.umn.edu (tuffy) Newsgroups: rec.games.video.sega Subject: WeaponLord FAQ Date: 26 Apr 1996 13:05:34 GMT Okay, here's the first WeaponLord FAQ that I came up with. I hope it's a good one... WeaponLord FAQ (created 4-19-96) (last updated 4-19-96) CONTENTS: [1] What is WeaponLord? [2] What does WeaponLord have that most generic fighting games don't? *[2-1] weapon-to-weapon combat *[2-2] balanced characters *[2-3] two life bars per round *[2-4] a non-cheesy computer opponent [3] What do I need to play WeaponLord? *[3-1] platforms *[3-2] controllers [4] What are the moves? [5] What are the secret codes? [6] Is there going to be a WeaponLord 2? Part [1]: What is WeaponLord? WeaponLord is a one-on-one fighting game like Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat. In short, the idea is to crush all of your opponents in single combat to win the game. But to keep it interesting, WeaponLord is combat between barbarions in a distant mythical land. If you like Conan, WeaponLord should be familiar territory. Part [2] What does WeaponLord have that most generic fighting games don't? [2-1]: weapon-to-weapon combat Unlike Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat, in WeaponLord you fight with swords, axes, hammers and a variety of mediaeval weaponry. This results in a game that relies entirely on weapon-to-weapon interaction rather than punches and kicks. In this respect, it is most similar to Samurai Shodown but with a very different atmosphere. [2-2]: balanced characters Many fighting games are unbalanced so that it becomes nearly impossible to win against any competent opponent using the wrong character. Reptile from Mortal Kombat 2 had this problem. Some characters do have advantages over others but the differences are minor compared to the glaring handicaps some characters in other fighting games have. [2-3]: two life bars per round This is a relatively new innovation that I saw on WeaponLord first. In Street Fighter 2, the first character that loses his/her life bar loses the round. In WeaponLord, each life bar must be drained *twice* before the round ends. And, unlike Killer Instinct's life bar system, each character's dual life bars are restored at the end of each round. The result is long grueling matches that can get very exciting near the end. [2-4]: a non-cheesy computer opponent Ever been amazed when a computer opponents pulls a combo that no human could manage without having three thumbs? In WeaponLord, you don't have to worry about it. Even on the highest difficulty setting, the computer *never* does anything that a skilled player can't duplicate. It's just a little thing, but knowing that the CPU fights fair is welcome relief from the mountain of cheese many fighting games put out. Part [3] What do I need to play WeaponLord? [3-1]: platforms WeaponLord is currently available for the Genesis and Super Nintendo systems. It was never an arcade game, but there were plans to install it in an arcade cabinet for playtesting during development. [3-2]: controllers On the Super Nintendo, the standard controller should work fine. On the Genesis, a 6-button controller is *highly* recommended. If you plan to play against friends, you're going to need two controllers (duh). [4] What are the moves? This is the full list of moves to the best of my knowledge. I've built this FAQ based on the Genesis control layout simply because that's the only version I own. No combos are listed, but may be added to the FAQ as requested or required. However, WeaponLord combos are surprisingly easy to find and execute, which makes me doubt the necessity to add them to this FAQ. All moves are assumed to be continuous motions (like SF2) unless otherwise listed and many require holding down the button *before* doing the controller motion. This allows special moves to use the top part of the controller without sending your character into a jump. To play as Zarak in story mode, enter the code: AAC ACB --- --- --- --- I don't have the information about the rest of the code. When I find it out, I will add it to the FAQ. [6] Is there going to be a WeaponLord 2? At the time of this writing, I've heard no news of any sequel to WeaponLord on any platform. FAQ created by: Brian Langenberger lang0104@gold.tc.umn.edu
