More recently they were purchased by Microsoft and have only so far brought out one game, Grabbed by the Ghoulies. In my opinion this is a great game and really overlooked by most people. I know this guide is late but I really wanted to get one out so here it is. The Guide to the ghoulies in GbtG. Last update I said I would eat a hat if I updated this guide again, well I have and I ate a nacho hat, it was very nice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [1b] Quick Search ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Do you just need help on against a certain ghoul? Do you want help without having to learn about all those other ghoul chumps? Use the quick search! For a less specific quick search press CTRL + F and search the code within the square brackets. For example: Search for the section "[9z] Crazy man with legs for arms picture" (STEP 1) Press CTRL + F (STEP 2) Type in the code, in this case "[9z]" (without the quotation marks) If you want to search for a certain ghoul like "Amazing Explosive Chimp" press CTRL + F and type in "Amazing Explosive Chimp". Oh and by the way, there is no picture of a crazy man and if there was he would most certainly NOT have legs for arms. As for the Amazing Explosive Chimp he is not there and don't even attempt to complete the game with a rating of 72/100 and in exactly 6 hours, 23 minutes and 9 seconds as that would not unlock him. No sir-e. ============================================================================== [2] Combat ============================================================================== [2a] Some Tips ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The combat in Grabbed by the Ghoulies is relatively simple but still provides a lot of entertainment and challenges along the way. Here's a few pointers to get you on the way, you will need to use these tactics to get through some of the tougher rooms. <-> Never attack an enemy when they are flashing red, not only are they invunerable during this stage it also usually is a signal they are going to do a powerful attack. <-> Avoid attacking enemies on the floor when there are plenty about, not only do they take less damage it also makes you vunerable. <-> Use your environment, chucking a ninja imp into a wall or a mummy into a fire can save you alot of hassle in the long run. <-> Save items until you are really prepared for them, this is especially important during challenges or in difficult rooms. <-> Certain enemies should be taken out before others, this is mainly personal preference on what Ghouls you find must aggravating so think before attacking. <-> Avoid Shocks at all costs, these are the biggest threat because if they catch you then you are bound to get hit by the strongest ghoul and recieve double damage. <-> The Power-ups in this game are especially helpful. The main ones to look out for are Traitor, Freeze, Turbo Cooper, Mini Cooper, Invunrability and Challenge Complete. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2b] Weapons ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Basically there are 5 different types of weapons in Grabbed by the ghoulies so here they are, examples and how to use them. Swing Weapons ************* (e.g. Chair, Ladder, Umbrella) These are probably the most common weapons found. They usually all have a max of 3 attacks so use them wisely. They vary in size so pick the type that suits what your facing, don't use a very large swingable weapon on a single enemy. These weapons are best used for small surrounding ghouls or single large ghouls you want to knock away. The super weapon power up allow these to be used infinate times until the power up runs out. Toss Weapons ************ (e.g. Bins, Plant pots, Boxes) These weapons are thrown by Cooper and bounce for a while. These are great at knocking down big enemies from afar or for taking out ghouls running towards you (especially if they are lined up). They also have a blast radius to take out clusters when they finally break. These are one use weapons and are no good on single enemies. The super weapon power up makes the weapon have a larger and more powerful blast radius. Multi-Throw Weapons ******************* (e.g. Burgers, Loo Rolls, Pots) These are piled up so you can throw usually about 5 or 6 burgers. These are great at slowing down ghouls and taking out weak ghouls as well. They are sadly quite useless against hefty ghouls, use these weapons when you are on the run so you can take some out. The super weapon power up allows you to throw infinate times until the power up runs out. 360 Whack Weapons ***************** (e.g. Pool Table, Table, Sofa) These are very rare and only found in certain rooms. They allow Cooper to swing around the object taking out any surrounding ghouls in one hit. This is really useful when you are in good health. Make a ton of imps and skeletons follow you and then swing away. These can only be used once and the super weapon power up does nothing. Special weapons *************** (e.g. Old Edna, Soda can Gun, Giant Candle) These are special weapons given to you at selected parts of the story. They make life easy as you can take out tonnes of ghouls from afar. They have no limit just a guage that needs charging every once in a while. To charge it up wait a few seconds and let it charge full otherwise you will have to wait another few seconds for it to start charging again. The super weapon power up makes you able to fire away without the guage going down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2c] Power Ups ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are quite a few power ups scattered through out the game, good and bad. Good Cans ********* <-> More energy More energy cans come in the 1, 5, 10, 15 and 25 heart varities. They are very useful when you are in a room where you start with low health or if you get low yourself. <-> Knock Down Mania This is quite an uncommon power up and is reasonably useful. It allows you to do the knock down attack continuously. This is good for tough enemies but gets quite annoying when you want to do a combo. <-> Turbo Cooper Quite common and incredibly useful. It allows you to move twice your normal speed and you can also attack twice as quick, this is great both at taking out loads of small ghouls or those tough ghouls when you want to "hit and run". <-> Mini Cooper Grab this and you will have an assistant to help you fight ghouls and he can't fail you any goals either. They run out quick though and are not really clever because they continually attack the closest ghoul. However if you are near the reaper this can be your saviour. <-> Extra Time In timed challenge rooms you can grab extra time (10+ seconds). <-> Dizzy Reaper If you are ever trying to escape the reaper then get this and he will be out for the count for about 20 - 30 seconds, this is a great find when you are up to your neck in it with other ghouls. <-> Freeze This freezes all the ghouls in the room allwoing you to attack them until they die or run for your life. Quite rare but incredibly useful! <-> Invunrable Quite rare but not that bad, these make you invunrable for a short amount of time, but you can still be hit back. You just won't take damage, useful. <-> Traitor These make all the enemies in the room fight with each other rather than you. This is great as it allows you to complete your goal much simpler. They are very rare. <-> Shocker Blocker These automatically make you pass any super scary shocks you encounter in the room. <-> Super Weapons This collectable gives you extra power and use with your weapons, it does something different for each catagory so take a peek at the weapons section. <-> Invisible These are really quite rare and make it impossible for ghouls to find you. It does exactly what it says on the tin! (pun intended) <-> One-hit Wonder The best power up by far allows you to kill a ghoul in one foul swoop. It doesn't last that long though so grab a turbo cooper as well and go nuts! <-> Challenge Complete Yes it's that easy, grab this and the challenge is done. But these are really rare like the one hit wonders but if you are ever stuck on a room raid it for one of these, you may be in luck. Bad Cans ******** <-> Energy Zapper Argh, these are awful, they lower you to 1 heart for a short while meaning that you will die from any hit dealt. If you know which one they are always avoid them! <-> Reverse Controls Exactly what you think, all controls are reversed. Very aggrivating. <-> Slo-mo Cooper You start moving at half your normal speed. This combined with reverse will cause incredible amount of cursing as you try to avoid Grim. I think that's all of them, if I've missed any please drop me a line. ============================================================================== [3] Ghoul list ============================================================================== There are in total 22 ghouls in the game, that's alot of Ghouls! In order to keep things simple I am going to list them in appearences, if you are unsure of the name or chapter where a particularily ghoul is go to the rundown section [3f] and jog your memory. Anyway here is what will be presented with each Ghoul. Name: (The ghoul's name) Appearance: (first scene when encountered) Health: (How many hits they have) Strength: (How strong their attacks are) Repertoire: (list of attacks) Difficulty: (out of 10) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3a] Chapter 1: The Rescue ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Imp Appearance: 1 - 1 Health: 5 hearts Strength: Very Weak Repertoire: Kick; Bite Difficulty: 1/10 The first enemy you will fight in the game and they are really simple. In the first chapter or two they will only kick you doing a measily 1 damage so they are nothing to worry about. Later on in the game they have a second attack where their head grows and they latch on, this can be aggrivating but once again does little damage from 3 - 5. To defeat these little monsters two kicks will finish them or one swing with a weapon. <><><> Name: Skeleton Appearence: 1 - 3 Health: 20 hearts Strength: Weak Repertoire: Punchs; Uppercut; Weapons Difficulty: 2/10 These guys can be a piece of cake as long as you know what you are doing. The main thing is too keep away from big groups of them unless you've got a strong weapon and especially avoid skeletons with weapons themselves. Keep moving and take them out with throwable junk. Final note is that don't get hit 3 times in a row because you will be stunned and recieve more damage than normal. <><><> Name: Spider Appearence: 1 - 6 Health: 10 hearts Strength: Very Weak Repertoire: Flying Roll; Web Difficulty: 1/10 Spiders are basically slightly improved imps. Their flying roll attack will take a while to charge (a perfect chance to get a hit in) and afterwards they will be stunned. The web attack is seen later in the game and it slows Cooper down when he walks over it, this is harmless unless there are much stronger enemies about. <><><> Name: Haunted Television Appearence: 1 - 7 Health: 40 hearts Strength: Very Weak Repertoire: Shock; Summon Difficulty: 3/10 These tv sets have no direct attacks but they do summon creatures, at first they only summon spiders and imps but later the summon slightly harder ghouls. The main thing to remember is that there is little chance for Cooper to attack using his fists because he will recieve a shock when the tv glows blue so use weapons generously to finish the television sets. <><><> Name: Haunted Chair Appearence: 1 - 8 Health: 15 hearts Strength: Weak Repertoire: Slide Difficulty: 2/10 What's this haunted tvs and chairs! Oh dear lord, anyway I find these to be frustrating at times as they have a tendency to slide at you just before you strike them so try and approach them from an angle rather than head on. They only take a few hits but they can take time to catch up with so stay on the ball. <><><> Name: Ancient Mummy Appearence: 1 - 9 Health: 40 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Punch; Staff whack; Wrap up Difficulty: 4/10 The first reasonably difficult enemy, they will not seem difficult at the time though because they only use their first two attacks. The mummy's punch will stun you straight away and if you don't fight back or get away quick enough you will be whacked with their staff causing heavy damage. They are only vunurable to fire so you will need a candle or a fire pit nearby to defeat them. The third attack will let them pull some bandage from themselves and throw at you causing you to be mummified, this is much harder to escape from in time before they hit you so keep moving and don't get surrounded. <><><> Name: Haunted Door Appearence: 1 - 12 Health: 60 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Swing; Knob spring Difficulty: 5/10 The last ghoul of the first chapter is this fellow. He has two attacks and is actually quite an opponent. The knob spring causes little damage but keeps you away from the door easily as it knocks you back and if you ever do get close he will swing at you causing quite a bit of damage and knocking you back. The key is to use throwable weapons or if none are about to run around the hinge side and get an attack in at the side but watch out, once a door is knocked over it cannot recieve damage so move away and prepare another attack. If the reaper is about he can sort out the door easy because he is really easy to get in the way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3b] Chapter 2: The Restoration ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Fire imp Appearence: 2 - 1 Health: 10 hearts Strength: Weak Repertoire: Fire Swipe; Fire Ball; Fire breath Difficulty: 3/10 These little beast can be annoying if you don't have the extinguisher. Just try to keep moving and use throwable weapons to bring them down. The fire swipe is fairly weak so you don't have much to worry about. Later on they gain the fire ball and breath ability, these aren't that dangerous but you can use it to burn other enemy groups. <><><> Name: Zombie Appearence: 2 - 2 Health: 50 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Punch combo; Arm swing Difficulty: 3/10 Almost the same as the skeleton but they can't use weapons and they have more health. The main thing to watch out for is their arm swing which knocks you down and does reasonable damage. However you can use their arm against them when it falls off. Watch out for these guys because when fighting with skeletons as well they can sometimes suprise you with how strong their forces are. <><><> Name: Ninja Imp Appearence: 2 - 5 Health: 15 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Kick; Trinity Kick; Grow Difficulty: 4/10 The most difficult of the imps and they can be fairly annoying in the big groups they seem to come in. They have the normal imp attacks but they now stun and once you are stunned they perform a flying kick (what I call the Trinity Kick) which does significant damage and knocks you over. Later on they gain the ability to grow and they then perform the Trinity kick continuously. The best thing to do is to gather them in a group and use swingable weapons before they grow. <><><> Name: Medusa Appearence: 2 - 7 Health: 30 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Shock stare; Whip Difficulty: 5/10 Medusas are really annoying as their whip attack does some damage and they also have the ability to do a super scary shock taking off 10 hearts if you fail. The best way to beat these ghouls is to simply avoid them as they are seldomly involved in challenges. If you have to fight them then throw objects at them but best of all try and stay away. <><><> Name: Zombie Pirate Appearence: 2 - 8 Health: 60 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Kick; Charge kick; Pieces of 8 Difficulty: 4/10 These pirate zombies are improved versions of the zombie. They have a kick that can stun you and then they do a charge kick that can knock you down and deal damage. Simply circle them to avoid this and get as many hits in as possible. The Pieces of 8 attack is only done later in the game and they throw a treasure chest at you for heavy damage. This is a very frustrating attack so keep out of the corners and in open space to avoid it. One good thing though is that the chest will also hurt other Ghouls. <><><> Name: Hunchback Appearence: 2 - 12 Health: 70 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Hide; Fury swing Difficulty: 6/10 Although at first trivially easy later on the Hunchback is formidable. He does not attack unless you infuriate him, he becomes invunerable at this time as well and he swings around causing mega damage to anyone around him. To avoid this do not hit him on the back too much and do not hit him at all when he has fallen over on the floor. To hurt him you have to stun him (one punch on the back) and quickly run round to his face and pummel him. This is difficult so leave him till last if there are other ghouls about. <><><> Name: Flying Imp Appearence: 2 - 20 Health: 10 hearts Strength: Weak Repertoire: Swipe; Dive bomb Difficulty: 2/10 Yawn, another type of Imp and it's very easy to beat. These are like the fire imps just not on fire. A couple of hits will take care of them but don't get surrounded because their attacks are quick and you can get overwealmed. Later on they gain the Dive bomb ability, it can be difficult to dodge but if you do it gives you a great oppurtunity to get some hits in while they are stunned. <><><> Name: Vampire Chicken Appearence: 2 - 22 Health: 20 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Dive bomb; Head grab Difficulty: 2/10 These are slightly better than flying imps because they only get hurt by garlic. Their dive bomb move can go a long way and does okay damage, nothing hard about them though, just fire away or run away depending if you have Edna with you. If they jump up on your head wiggle the control stick and avoid other enemies. <><><> Name: Cursed Mummy Appearence: 2 - 24 Health: 80 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Slab smash; Death Curse Difficulty: 7/10 These Ghouls are very frustrating but luckily very irregular. They use a sort of chant to draw you in, then shock you and then hit you over the head for some incredible damage. There second move allows them to curse you if the ghost skull touches you and if you don't leave the room within 30 seconds or kill the cursed mummy then you die. The only way of hurting them is by using fire like the ancient mummy so either chuck the vase that they sometimes start in (it's gold) into the fire or avoid them completely. <><><> Name: Haunted Coat Appearence: 2 - 26 Health: 20 hearts Strength: Moderate Repertoire: Swing arms manically Difficulty: 4/10 Coats can be so annoying because they are incredibly fast, try to throw things at them and avoid their mad swinging arms as best as you can. Oh and if you knock them down don't let them back up, just keep pummeling them. This is really the only advice I can offer. <><><> Name: Haunted Painting Appearence: 2 - 29 Health: 15 hearts Strength: Weak Repertoire: Dive bomb Difficulty: 2/10 The painting flies around quickly so try and hit it when it fails to hit you. These ghouls are simple to kill and only take a few hits, they are just like flying imps really. <><><> Name: Jessie and Clyde Appearence: 2 - 33 Health: 100 hearts Strength: Very Strong Repertoire: Scream; Chuck Difficulty: 7/10 Luckily when you first fight one of these you have a gun but later on they become one of the toughest enemies in the game. After every hit they become invunrable and scream (causing a shock bubble). If you don't avoid this then they also grab you causing tremendous damage. Tthe best method is to use weapons and run for your life after every successful hit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3c] Chapter 3: The Riddle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Warlock Appearence: 3 - 4 Health: 50 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Teleport; Ice bolt Difficulty: 6/10 Ahh... one of the most annoying ghouls as you need to be very generous with weapons. The warlock can teleport after every attack and can fire multiple ice bolts at you which can be difficult to avoid in all the mayhem. Use throwable items to take off his health and when approaching keep strafing to avoid the ice. <><><> Name: Vampire Appearence: 3 - 10 Health: 40 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Open Door; Kiss and Cuddle Difficulty: 6/10 The vampires are tough to kill due to only being vunerable to garlic. They seem to wander around aimlessly opening their door which does little damage however if they see you they run towards you and grab you. If you get caught wiggle the control stick quickly to escape. The only way to kill them is to shoot them in the face with garlic when they open their door but otherwise just knock them over to get by. <><><> Name: Worm Appearence: 3 - 14 Health: 15 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Ticking time bomb of DOOM! Difficulty: 4/10 Yes, voted the strangest and most hectic enemy in the game the worm has only one attack. Once hit or angered they will have a timer over their head and you have 5 seconds to run away from them before they explode. If you get caught in the blast you will recieve major damage, what I usually do is run for my life if it is a big group or wait till 3 seconds before kicking them away if it's a small group. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3d] Unique Ghouls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are a few unique Ghouls (bosses or misc ghouls), here is the list. Name: Reaper Appearence: Anywhere Health: Invunerable Strength: Instant Kill Repertoire: Touch of Death Difficulty: 8/10 The reaper is the death bringer. If you fail at a challenge then this guy will come to sort you out. He is invinsible and he also kills you at touch. Their are a few ways to avoid him and you will need to work hard. The first thing is that as time passes he will gradually speed up so you cannot escape him forever. Attempt to block his route with other Ghouls as he will kill those and it will slow him down. You can also try to beat him up but if you lay a kick wrong then it could be your downfall, best of all just run away. <><><> Name: Mr.Ribs Appearence: 2 - 27 Health: 40 hearts Strength: None Repertoire: None Difficulty: 0/10 Just chase after him and hit him with a cake, he will not hurt you at all but he does speed up. <><><> Name: Amber the Ugly Appearence: 2 - 40 Health: 100 hearts Strength: Strong Repertoire: Punch Difficulty: 9/10 The first out of two bosses in GbtG. Amber is reasonably easy as long as you get the powerups and keep running. From the start turn around and destroy the box for a mini cooper, let him go and collect the speed up behind Amber. Keep hitting her until she is knocked down and run around the outer archives and pick up the throwable objects. Use these to stun her and then knock her down again. Repeat this until she is beaten. <><><> Name: Baron Von Ghoul Appearence: 4 - 1 Health: 200 hearts Strength: Very Strong Repertoire: Propeller Whack; Top Gun; Summoner Difficulty: 10/10 There are 3 stages to beating Baron Von Ghoul. Stage 1 - He will do attacks with his propeller, attack him after each thrust. After hitting him 3 times he will drop the propeller, pick it up and hit him with it while he is not coloured red 3 times. You will need to repeat this entire process three times. Stage 2 - He will finish making his plane and board it, he will dive at you and you will need to hit him after each dive. To avoid a dive start strafing when he rises and makes a diving noise. You will need to repeat this 3 times. Stage 3 - The longest and hardest stage, he will summon ghouls and you will need to defeat them all. After each batch he becomes vunrable again and you will need to shoot him down. The ghoul batches go as follows: Skeletons, Zombies, Worms, Zombie Pirates. Here are the locations of power ups you can use: Bookshelf by Bed - Invunrable, 5 hearts, BAD (x2) Bathroom Sink and Shelf - Super weapons, Turbo Cooper Vases by main window - 5 hearts (x2) Grandfather Clock by desk - Invunrable, BAD Closet DRAWS by Runway - Super Weapons, Turbo Cooper, 5 hearts Cupboard DOORS by Runway - BAD (x6) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3e] Ghoul Overview ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is a list of the Ghouls in the game in order of there appearence.
