Version History =================== 14/3/04 0.79 I know it has been a long while again since I last updated this guide, so I thought it best to update it now. It is a small update, but in the next one I will do more, but that will not be for some time. After the next update, I should be able to go on and finish the guide, but until then, it will remain wholly like it is now. Fixed some grammatical and spelling errors. 19/11/03 0.78 I have put up a few tips from contributors. I will hopefully try to get at least one more mission by the next update. 10/11/03 0.76 So it has been a very long time since an update, but I am now going to start working on this guide again, although progress will more than likely be slow. Remember, if you wish to contribute, email me and I will put your name in the credits for doing so. By the way, not much work has been done on his update. Just some minor updates, and fixing errors. 5/8/03 0.75 Added some information about fossils and created the 'Hints and Tips' section. Fixed some other, minor errors. I also added the 'Operation Genesis' to the ASCII art, so the entire game title is now in ASCII art which I postponed doing for time reasons. Progress is slow because I dont actually have the game with me at my present location as I write this. I am in Africa, Malawi to be precise and am trying the best I can to update the guide a little from what I already know. Also, the guide may be uploaded at a much later date from this update, because it is difficult to get onto the internet here. When I get back from Africa, the missions section wil be finished and I may add some more sections as well. If you have a request for a section then email me and I will see if I can put it up, and I don't mean 'Cheats', the reason for this is that although I may eventually put a 'Cheats' section up, I know that you can find cheats almost anywhere else, so there is really no need to at this point in time. 4/8/03 0.7a I have not updated this FAQ in quite a while and I am sorry for any problems that this may have caused. Just a small, very small update, corrected some mistakes that I didnt realise I had made, mainly spelling errors. 10/5/03 0.7 Corrected some mistakes and renovated the missions section to make it more reader friendly. Finshed the 'buildings' section. 4/5/03 0.6 Put some more buildings up and added some more questions. 16/4/03 0.5 Put some more buildings up. 14/4/03 0.41 Added the ASCII art. Fixed minor errors. 12/4/03 0.4 Added the first mission and put prices up for the buildings. 11/4/03 0.31 Tiny little update. Added some more questions in the FAQ section. 10/4/03 0.3 Added some more sections, put some more buildings up. Added more questions. Finished off Fossil Locations. 5/4/03 0.1 Got all the proposed sections up. ==================== 2. Copyright Notice ==================== This FAQ is copyright ©2003-2004 Xzar. Introduction ================ This FAQ is about the game Jurassic Park: Operation Genisis and is totally unoffical and is no way conected to the developers or publishers. It is my first FAQ and I have put alot of work into it. I hope it helps and is not a waste of time. If you wish to tell me about mistakes then contact me via my email address (above). If you wish to contribute game tips or info then contact me and I will put them up in the next version. Also if you want me to add a section that is not already here then ask and i'll see what I can do for you. Also, this FAQ is still and has been quite long in the making and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Xzar ===================== 4. Starting the game ===================== You turn the console on after inserting the disk and the game begins loading. You first have to choose a language. Once the main screen has come up, people who have seen the first film will know where the music came from. There are many choices of what you can do. First of all there is the main mode where you create an Island and make a park on it. Then there are the missions in which you take control of a vehicle and do various tasks. There is also exersises which involve a tutorial and some harder challenges. All in all there is quite alot to do in this game. I suggest that when you first start playing this you play the Tutorial because it teaches you key things about the game. ============ 5. Controls ============ ======== I. Land Cruiser ================== Left Analog Stick: Steering X Button: Camera/Gun (Emergency mode) Square Button: Horn L1 Button: Reverse L2 Button: Rear View R1 Button: Forward ========= 6. Story ========= This game is based on the movie Jurassic Park and has you building a park that has dinosaurs as the main attraction. You have several advisors that tell you what is happening in the park and you can also pilot a helicopter and drive a Land Cruiser. You are the manager of the park and have to build it and maintain it. There is a story mode which invovles several missions. ============== 7. Characters ============== You tend to interact with these people during the course of the game. --------------------------- JOHN HAMMOND - Owner of InGen. He tells you when the quarterly report is ready. He also tells you when your park earns more stars. --------------------------- PETER LUDLOW - A funny looking fella, who pops up when you get into debt or there is a disater in the park. --------------------------- DR. ALLEN GRANT - He is the person who oversees the managment of your fossil hunting teams. He will tell you when new fossils have been found. --------------------------- DR. HENRY WU - He just sits around and tells you when research or DNA extraction is complete. --------------------------- DR. ELLIE SATTLER - I don't really know what she does, just tells me that my animals are dead, or that they are in a coma. --------------------------- RAY ARNOLD - He says something when you open the map. Oh and tells you when buildings need fixing. --------------------------- ROBERT MULDOON - He is in charge of the Rangers of the park and maintains the Safari Ride and the Balloon Tour. --------------------------- JANE POWERS - Wait a second! She wasn't in the movie! She just says that one of your hundred visitors didn't see the right dinosaur. Who really gives? --------------------------- ===================== 8. Types Of Visitors ===================== There are four types of visitors that go to your park. --------------------------- MAINSTREAM - These are like all-rounders and like a little dose of everything. --------------------------- THRILL SEEKER - These are the people who want action. Turn a viewing vent or such into something like, 'The Thrill Vent' to gives these visitors a kick. They like to see carnivores killing each other, so do I. --------------------------- DINO NERD - I hate these beacause they complain if your dinos are not from the same era. Make the vents or such say 'Nature Vent' or something along those lines. They like it when you put paleo trees inside the dinosaurs enclosures. --------------------------- FUN LOVER - They like fun and give it to them by making a 'Play Vent' or something to make them happy. They usually like to see herbivores having fun. --------------------------- NOTE: The best thing to do is to keep your Atrractions on the default otherwise you may cause hassle to yourself if you turn bias towards a particualr type of visitor. ============= 9. Buildings ============= I will provide the name of the buildings and good places to put them/what to do with them. ========= I. Paths ========= Paths are needed for people to get around. --------------------------- Path - This is the basic pathway and your visitors use it to navigate the park. Place them where you need visitor access. A good idea is to have them running along the side of your lower security fences. This alows your visitors to see the dinosaurs without using an attraction. COST: $50 --------------------------- Fountain - The Fountain basically just adds a bit of niceness to your park and helps calm visitors down. Place them near the entrance and near rest area's. COST: $1,500 --------------------------- Trash Can - Visitors use this to throw things away and without this, your park would be a complete mess. Place them near burger stands and rest areas. COST: $100 --------------------------- Benches - Visitors can rest on these. Place them along pathways that are very long or near attractions. COST: $75 --------------------------- ================ II. Attractions ================ Visitors use these for fun and to see your dinosaurs. --------------------------- Viewing Vent - These don't cost very much and allow visitors to look at the dinosaurs. The problem with this buiding is that it is too close to the ground. After placing one, make sure you use the 'view' command to see what the visitors see and if anything is the way, get rid of it. You should put this in larger enclosures. COST: $1,500 --------------------------- Viewing Platform - An evelated platform that gives visitors a cahnce to see in four directions. Put this where you have several enclosures close together. COST: $3,000 --------------------------- Viewing Dome - The best 'viewing' building that actually puts the visitor inside the enclosure with the dinosaurs. Place it in the middle of a big enclosure for the best results. It is a bit on the expensive side so only put one in if the enclosure is a really good one. COST: $5,000 --------------------------- Balloon Tour - It take visitors up high where they can see the dino's from the sky. Be careful with this one because it can crash in bad wheather. Place it in the middle of your main park and let it travel all the way around. Close the ride if the wheather forecast is saying there will be a thunder storm, even if it is three months away, because the ride takes ages to finish. COST: $4,000 --------------------------- Safari Adventure - This, by far the best attraction as well as the last. This goes into the dinosaur enclosure and you can take control of it. Make a large enclosure and put herbivores from the same era in it (Keep the nerds happy) and then make the track go all the way around it. To make alot of money fast, rise the price to $100. If you are going to put it in a carnivore enclosure then I suggest with a small one (not the Velociraptor). I tried it and no accidents occured, although I did have a few troubled situations where the dinosaurs went on rampage, but I took control of the Land Cruiser and got the car out of there. COST: $4,000 --------------------------- ================ III. Amentities ================ Well these are the things you need to maitain your park in very healthy order. --------------------------- Park Enterance - You use this to let visitors in the park. Don't make too many of them at the start and raise the price to about $200 once you get established. At my parks current state (4 1/2 stars) I have the price up to $350 without any complaints. Put this in the middle of your park as I find this works best. COST: $5,000 --------------------------- Kiosk - This building keeps your visitors happy by feeding them. At first you should have the price by default and raise it later. Try changing the foods to satisfy different types of visitor. Put it where your enterance is and if your park is big, on the outskirts of it too. COST: $2,000 ---------------------------- Rest Rooms - Yeah yeah yeah, visitors need to go to the loo. Put these around your park and make sure they are in all the good places like near a Kiosk and also attractions. You never know when they may need to go. COST: $1,500 ---------------------------- Souvenir Stand - Cheap stuff for people to buy and take home, put them near Kiosks. They don't make very much money, mind. COST: $2,000 ---------------------------- Rest Area - Basically just a bench that holds more people, eight in fact. Put them near attractions and Kiosks. These are essential if you want to keep visitors in you park for long periods of time. COST: $1,500 ---------------------------- ============= IV. Cleaners ============= I don't actually know why they put this choice in because it is only one building. They should have put this in Amentities. Maybe it was so they could fill up all the buttons. ---------------------------- Clearners Station - This building is where you hire cleaners to clean up your park. Put it where there is alot of dirt and no bins and they will sort the problem out. COST: $3,000 ---------------------------- ============ V. Security ============ These guys protect your visitors from things that may cause them harm, which means carnivores. ---------------------------- Ranger Station - This is where your park Rangers work. They protect the visitors from harm by using a helicopter. Place them near dangerous enclosures. They aren't cheap either so watch out and make sure you put them in a good place. There is no use having a helicopter on the other side of the park while a Spinosaurus is loose. COST: $6,000 ---------------------------- Security Camera - This device is for keeping an eye on dangerous dinosaurs. Put them in with any bad dinosaurs, such as the Velociraptors. It is a good idea to set it to detect when a dino goes on a rampage aswell, especially if you have a Safari Ride near by. Put it in the corners of enclosures for the best results. The price isn't too bad either. COST: $600 ---------------------------- Avoidance Beacon - This make the dinosaurs steer clear from areas where you don't want them. Put this near any carnivoure cages to help visitors escape if their is a break out. These things do take a while to charge so the intervals of the pulse are quite long. I don't like the price on this building. COST: $2,000 ---------------------------- Sentry Turret - Very good against carnivoures in the case of a break out. Put it near the cage like the Avoidance Beacon. The turret can cover the Avoidance Beacon while it is charging. You can control this one, which is kinda fun. The price is very high but pay it if your parks security rating is low. COST: $10,000 ---------------------------- Visitor Shelter - Up to 40 people can hide in this in an emergency. Put one near the enterence and near the dinosaur enclosures. Especially Raptors. It can withstand storms, even tornadoes, which is a good thing. Price is very good considering. COST: $2,000 ---------------------------- =============== VI. Enclosures =============== Buildings that help you make and contain the dinosaurs of your park. I wonder if make is the right word? ---------------------------- Hatchery - This building creates all the dinosaurs in the game. I takes just weeks for the dinosaurs to grow old enough to be released into the park. They are quite expensive so make one and do all your breeding there and transport them to there enclosure. COST: $6,000 ---------------------------- Carnivore/Herbivore Feeders - These two feed your dinosaurs so put at least one in each enclosure but more if there are more than one dinosaur. They do not cost very much. Make sure you locate it around the centre of the enclosure. COST: $1,500 ---------------------------- Auto Lure - This thing attracts dinosaurs to it. If you want the dinosaurs in a paticular place for the visitors to see them, then this will help you. It lets out it's scent once a month unless you do it manually. Put it in a place where the visitors can see whats going on from an attraction. COST: $2,000 ---------------------------- Low/Medium/High security fences - Stops dinosaurs from escaping and makes the boundaries of the enclosure. The higher the security, the less the visitors can see through it. Put it around your dinosaurs. COST: Low: $100 Medium: $250 High: $500 ---------------------------- ================= VII. Environment ================= These are the things that make your park look a bit more realistic. ---------------------------- Trees - If you do not have trees around your enclosures, herbivores will die of starvation. A large herbivore eats two a month and a small one eats one so make sure you put alot of trees otherwise your dinosuars will die of malnutrition. Put paleo trees because dino nerds like them and you be at any risk of giving your dinosaurs a disease, which is Dino Belly, although you dont need to worry about that if you have researched the vaccine. COST: Normal: $100 each Paleo: $300 each ---------------------------- Lakes - A lake in every enclosure is very important so your dinosaurs can drink. Put them in the the middle of an enclosure and around your park to make it more like a natural island. COST: Varies, usually from about $20 to $100 ---------------------------- Mountains - Just add a bit of realism to your enclosures. Put them where they wont get in the way of your development. Mountains do not protect you against tornadoes, I have tried this and it does not stop them, so don't make them just as a barrier against them because it will not work. COST: Varies, Small about $400, Medium about $1,500, Large about $4,000 ---------------------------- Flatten - This is just a tool to flatten the ground. Use it in places where you need to develop but cannot because of a mountain. COST: Varies depending on the amount needed to be flattened ---------------------------- ===================== 10. Fossil Locations ===================== Fossils are the objects you find in the ground and are basically skeletons of animals that have been around for a very long time. In this game, dinosaur DNA is extracted from fossils of dinosaurs that are found at these locations. There are four types of dinosaur fossil. Small, not very much DNA, Medium, a bit more than a small fossil, Large, a bit more than a medium fossil and Ember, which can be any of the dinosaurs at the location that it was found. It also contains more DNA rgan a large fossil. NOTE: You need 50% DNA of a dinosaur to breed it in a hatchery. ====================== I. Judith River Group ====================== Site A: Ankylosaurus Albertosaurus Pachycephalosaurus Site B: Tyrannosaurus Corythosaurus Styracosaurus ======================= II. Morrison Formation ======================= Site A: Stegosaurus Ceratosaurus Pachycephalosaurus Site B: Brachiosaurus Camarasaurus Dilophosaurus ========================== III. Hell Creek Formation ========================== Site A: Acrocanthosaurus Parasaurolophulus Torosaurus Site B: Triceratops Edmontosuarus Pachycephalosaurus ====================== IV. Chenini Formation ====================== Site A: Spinosaurus Carcharadontosaurus Ouranosaurus ====================== V. The Flaming Cliffs ====================== Site A: Velociraptor Gallimimus Homalocephale ======================== VI. Tendaguru Formation ======================== Site A: Brachiosaurus Allosaurus Kentrosaurus NOTE: Don't forget that you can also buy fossils off the fossil market, but they are only fossils that you have already found, so if you find a Voliciraptor fossil and extract the DNA, you will be able to buy further Velociraptor fossils from the fossil market. ========================= 11. Dinosaur Star Rating ========================= The more stars, the better the dinosaur, well the more people will like it. But it can also mean the more dangerous it is, but not always. --------------------------- One Star: Dryosaurus --------------------------- Two Stars: Ceratosaurus Dilophosaurus Kentrosaurus Ouranosaurus Pachycephalosaurus Styracosaurus Torosaurus ---------------------------- Three Stars: Albertosaurus Camarasaurus Corythosaurus Edmontosaurus Gallimimus Homalocephale Parasaurolophus --------------------------- Four Stars: Acrocanthosaurus Carcharadontosaurus Allosaurus Ankylosaurus Stegosaurus --------------------------- Five Stars: Tyrannosaurus Spinosaurus Velociraptor Brachiosaurus Triceratops --------------------------- TIP: Your best bet is to get the higher star dinosaurs but be warned, the raptors jump fences and can be a nuisance in an emergency. If you don't want to deal with the carnivoures, then I suggest getting the Triceratops and Brachiosaurus, as they are five star herbivoures. ============= 12. Missions ============= This is how to do the missions which involve these three things; Ranger Helicopter, Land Cruiser (Safari Photo's) and Muster (Muster is used by the heli to round dinosaurs up). The hardest missions are the Muster ones, although the Ranger Helicopter missions can be quite difficult. The Land Cruiser missions are varying in difficulty. Most are easy though. ================================= I. A picture is worth 100 points ================================= ------------------ - Safari Mission - ------------------ - Objectives - -------------- * Achieve 100 points - Restrictions - ---------------- * 10 photos * 3 vehicles - Walkthrough - --------------- This mission is simple. Once you begin, drive directly to the lake near the middle of the island and try to get as many dinosaurs as you can into one photo. Don't let trees get in your way. If you manage to get alot of the dinosaurs into one photo then you may not need to take another one. But if you do need to take more, then try to get different dinosaurs into the picture and on a different angle. Once you get 100 points, the mission is complete. Be very careful because there is an Allosaurus out there and she will chomp your vehicle if you go anywhere near her. If you see a red blip on the radar, stay well away from it. There are also some Dilophosaurus' near the lake. They will not be much of a problem but don't annoy them. You will loose points if you run a dinosaur over so be careful and beep if one is in your way. NOTE: The other missions will be added later. ===================================== 13. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) ===================================== NOTE: No-One actually asked me these I just made them up but they should already answer some questions you might have. If you want to add a question the email and as well as emailing you the answer I will put it up here. --------------------------- Q. How do I get money fast? A. Just build a safari adventure ride and set the price to $100. That sould get your money up at a faster rate. Also increasing the price to get into your park will help aswell. This will give you a fairly good income, but there isn't really a 'fast' way to get money, without using cheats of course. --------------------------- Q. My Dinosaurs are dying for no reason, what can I do? A. Usually this is because of malnutrtion. All you have to do is add some more trees to your enclosure. That should help. If it does not help then reduce the amount of dinosaurs you have in the enclosure. --------------------------- Q. Some of my visitors are stuck because the Land Cruiser broke down, what should I do? A. Just take control of it and drive the car back to the depot. We don't want a repeat of the film. --------------------------- Q. Dino Nerds don't like my park!!! A. Just put in some paleo trees or keep the dinos seperate according to the era they are from. --------------------------- Q. People are leaving my park unhappy. I have dinosuars and everything. What should I do? A. Make sure there is actually a path that goes to the dinosaurs and add some attractions to the enclosure. Make sure you have some toilets as well, and some food stands. --------------------------- Q. My balloon ride broke down. What should I do? A. First of all, calm down. Find out where it went down a get a ranger chopper there to save the visitors. If you can't find it then I suggest you put the park into emergency mode until the people die so you don't loose money. But it is better if you find them as soon as you can. --------------------------- Q. What should I research first? A. Usually it is a good idea to research the vaccines first so that you don't get the problem I had with epidemics sweeping my park and I had to wait several months to stop them. ---------------------------- Q. All of my Dig Sites are exhausted and I havent got enough DNA to make a certain dinosaur. What should I do? A. Just go to the fossil market and stock up on the fossils you need, but make sure you have alot of money because the good fossils are very expensive and it is a waste of time buying the small fossils as they give very little DNA. ---------------------------- ==================== 14. Hints and Tips ==================== This is the newest section that I have added (Correct at version 0.75) and I will try to think of some little hints and tips to make the game a bit easier, and also tell you some things you may have missed, if I find any. * Try to check your fences for weaknesses regularly, all of them, and especially if you have Velociraptors because they will find the weakness and then jump over the fence at that location and cause havoc in your park. * Keep a keen eye on the weather forecast, and if a tornado is imminent, say in a month or two, then I suggest you put the park into emergency mode then and be prepared for the worst. * When you get the chance to choose another location to dig for fossils, it is best to pick one of the locations that has two possible dig sites, such as the Judith River Group or the Hell Creek Formation to have the chance of getting alot more fossils, and therefore not wasting the very limited amount of dig sites it is possible to unlock. - Some Tips from MothMaiden - * Beginners should probably avoid the carnivores (especially the high strung 5 star ones) until they have more experience. It is perfectly possible to build a peaceful herbivore park that gets five stars (even if your highest rated herbivore is only four stars). With herbivores, it isn't a problem if they escape their enclosures, as none of them will harm a human (they love humans). Six by eight fence segments is a good size for a herbivore enclosure of three dinosaurs each of six to seven species. Build the path so it is parallel to the long side of the enclosure. * All of the herbivores get along with each other except Kentrosaurus, which is afraid of a number of the large carnivores. Keep this dinosaur with their cousin Stegosaurus, or with Dryosaurus, in a separate enclosure from the main herd. * Avoid the use of avoidance beacons, lures, and sentry turrets. The avoidance beams periodically panic your dinosaurs (can potentially cause rampages). The lures drug your dinosaurs, making them unable to eat or sleep when the gas is being emitted. The sentry turrets are a waste of money (for them and for killing a valuable dinosaur you have other ways of dealing with). - Some Tips from jamesbevis2 - * You should research vaccinations first, then research the hatchery immunisation. * You should definately unlock the Flaming Cliffs, and another fossil hunting ground of your choice - preferably a site that has Tyrannosaurus remains. ============ 15.
