---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05 Title: Date Topped Cake Categories: Cakes Yield: 9 Servings 1 c Dates; chopped 1 ts Soda 1 c Water; boiling 1-1/2 c All-purpose flour 1 ts Baking powder 1/3 ts Salt 1 c Sugar 1 Egg; beaten 1 tb Butter; melted 1/2 c Nuts; chopped --------------------------------DATE TOPPING-------------------------------- 1 c Sugar 2/3 c Water; boiling 1 ds Salt 1 c Dates; pitted, chopped 1/2 c Nuts; chopped Pit and cut up dates; add soda dissolved in boiling water and let stand. In bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar; add to dates along with egg and butter. Mix well; stir in nuts. Turn into greased 8" baking pan. Bake in 350 F oven for 55 minutes. Topping: Combine sugar, boiling water, salt, pitted dates, and nuts. Pour over cake as soon as it comes from over. Let cake cool in pan. Serve warm or cold, topped with whipped cream, if desired.
