---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05 Title: Croesus Bars Categories: Cookies Yield: 60 servings 1 c Butter or margarine 2/3 c Light brown sugar 1/2 c Granulated sugar 3 Eggs; separated 1 tb Water 1 ts Vanilla extract 1/2 ts Almond extract 2 c Flour; sifted 1/4 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Salt 12 oz Semi-sweet chocolate bits 1 c Chopped black walnuts or -pecans 1 pn Cream of tartar 1/2 c Brown sugar Recipe by: Helen Jolly Cream butter with the 2/3 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup granulated sugar in large bowl of electric mixer. Beat egg yolks lightly and add. Beat in water and flavorings. Sift flour with soda and salt and blend in well. Spread in ungreased 15x10x1-inch jelly-roll pan. Sprinkle with chocolate bits, then walnuts; press down lightly with palm of hand. Beat egg whites until foamy; add cream of tartar; continue beating until stiff. Fold in the 1/2 cup brown sugar; spread over chocolate bits. Bake at 300` for 50 to 55 minutes. Cool, cut in squares (small for cookies; larger as a base for ice cream dessert). Freezes well. Yield 60 small cookies. -----
