Put the cereal into a plastic bag and mash it slightly so that the pieces are slightly broken but not made into a powder. Combine the butter, chocolate chips, and corn syrup in a pan. Place it over low heat and stir continuously until the butter and chocolate are melted and the mixture is blended. Do not overheat while you are doing this. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla. Stir in the powdered sugar (a whisk will help you make it smooth). Add the crushed cereal and stir in well until everything is mixed together then, working quickly, scoop the mixture into the buttered pan and flatten it and smooth the surface. Chill until firm. Cut into squares or rectangles and wrap if you like. YIELD: 9x13-inch pan to be cut as you choose - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
