   1      c             Sugar
     1/4  c             Shortening
   1      c             Milk
   2 1/2  c             Flour
   2      ts            Baking powder
   3                    Apples -- up to 4, sliced

Cream sugar, shortening, and egg. Add milk and flour gradually. Add
baking powder. Spread into cake pan. Slice apples and form layer over
dough. Sprinkle with mixture of sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Bake
about 35 minutes at 350 F.
