                           Mexican Peasant Soup

     3/4  c             Onion -- chopped
     3/4  c             Celery -- chopped
     1/2  c             Green pepper -- chopped
   1      cl            Garlic -- minced
     1/4  ts            Ground pepper
     1/4  ts            Chili powder
   2      dr            Tabasco sauce -- to taste
   2      c             Vegetable broth
  16      oz            Refried beans
                        Tortilla chips (optional)
                        Cheddar cheese -- shredded
                        - (optional)

Saute vegetables until tender. Add spices, broth, and refried beans.
Heat through. Top with chips or cheese if desired.
