* Exported from MasterCook * Golden Poached Pears (D) Recipe By : Vegetarian Times, Dec 1992, Mary Carroll Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Fruits Desserts Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 6 Bosc -- or other firm winter -pears 1 c Semi-dry white wine -- such -as Riesling 1 c Apple juice 1 lg Lemon -- juice of 5 Whole cloves Peel pears, leaving them whole. Using a melon baller, core pears from the bottom up. Place in a saucepan and add wine, apple juice, lemon juice, and cloves. Place pan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Lower heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes, until pears are soft but not mushy. Remove cloves from poaching liquid and spoon liquid over pears to serve. Serves 6. Variation: Omit lemon juice and substitute apple cider for the apple juice.
