* Exported from MasterCook * Taco Meat Recipe By : Austin American Statesman 6/7/95 Serving Size : 8 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : New Formats Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 pound ground turkey or ground top round 1 cup onion -- diced 1 clove garlic -- minced 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder 1 teaspoon oregano 1/2 cup tomato sauce 1/2 cup green chiles -- diced 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turkey or ground round and sear over medium heat until browned, without stirring, about 5-6 minutes. (If using beef, pour off all fat.) Add the onion, garlic, chili powder and oregano and stir to break up clumps of meat. Saute until the onion s fully cooked, about 3-4 minutes. Lower the heat to medium-low and stir in the tomato sauce and chiles. Simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated, about 5-8 minutes. Add salt and pepper.
