---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05 Title: Sour Cream Walnut Cake, 1953 Winner Categories: Cakes Yield: 1 Cake Cake: 2 c All-purpose flour 3 ts Baking powder 1/2 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Salt 3 tb Butter; softened 1 1/8 c Sugar 1 1/2 c Sour cream 2 lg Eggs 1/4 ts Black walnut flavoring Caramel Nut Frosting: 1/4 c Butter; melted 1/2 c Brown sugar; firmly packed 1/4 c Light cream 1 1/2 c Confectioners sugar 1/3 c Nuts; chopped 1/2 ts Vanilla A winner in the senior division of the 1953 Pillsbury Bakeoff. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; set aside. Cream together the butter and sugar. Add well beaten eggs and sour cream. Add flour mixture and mix by hand or electric mixer until well mixed. Pour into 12x8x2" pan. Bake 40 to 50 minutes in preheated 350°F oven. Caramel Nut Frosting: Melt 1/4 cup butter in saucepan. Add 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar; cook over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add 1/4 cup light cream; continue stirring and bring to a boil. Remove from heat; blend in 1-1/2 cups confectioners sugar and 1/3 cup chopped nuts; mix well. Add 1/2 ts vanilla. If necessary thin with cream a few drops at a time. Posted by: Pat Dwigans -----
